DJ Pad releases new single '4000'

The French composer of digital music known as DJ Pad has released his most recent single track, titled, “4000.” The track has been independently released of support from major corporate music companies on the 4000 Records music label. Not literally a single release but rather only a single in the categorical sense, DJ Pad's “4000” has been published with two other digital music tracks alongside, “Pride” and “Prism (Reloaded).” The trio of songs have a combined approximate total listening time of 15 minutes, longer than some EP album releases.

DJ Pad cites such artists as Hallucinogen, ATB, Cosmic Gate, Angerfist, Afrojack, Sebastian, Hanz Zimmer, and Mike Oldfield as main artistic influences. He describes himself in one online bio in the following few words: “I’m a french producer who makes trance, house, hardcore/gabber and some other styles of music like psytrance/ambient/dubstep.”

“4000” is DJ Pad's most significant official release since his late 2012 double LP record, “Waiting to be Discovered,” a gigantic and remarkable record which included two hours of music. It was this record which broke DJ Pad to the music listening world, and one which permanently lifted him to the status of one of France's most imminent and creative EDM artists in recent years.

GrooveShine releases debut self-titled album

Cali Conscious releases debut LP 'High Times'

The roots reggae band known as Cali Conscious has released their debut LP record, “High Times.” The album is comprised of 12 original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 45 minutes. Cali Conscious' official bio describes them as a blend of roots reggae, folk rock, jazz, rhythm 'n' blues and alternative music. That Cali Conscious are guided by lofty and admirable principles seems clear. That their music sounds even better than their philosophies makes “High Times” a record not to be missed, as spring hits its stride and the beach-party boombox aches for new material.

Kontradikshn releases new EP 'Anatomy'

Acmesound releases new LP 'Better Late Than Never'

A rock record played neck-deep in rhythm and infused with copious amounts of cool, “Better Late Than Never” is a tremendous accomplishment from one of rock's most multi-talented and expert musicians.

Hawaii's Acmesound (often stylized as acmesound) cites as main artistic influences such explosive acts as the Who, Santana, Eric Clapton, U2, the Police, and Lifehouse. In addition to certain nuances of these discernible in “Better Late Than Never,” Acmesound has a flavor all his own that pulses with measured amounts of groove and sonic aggression. Acmesound started as the personal project of a rhythm guitarist and keyboard player best known from his work with Kona's popular cover band, Fargo. Commenting on the issues involved with time constraints of band members, available facilities, and other such complications, Acmesound decided to go back to the studio for his creative outlet. Always preferring the precision of recording to the unpredictability of live performances, anyway, he went to work on “Better Late Than Never.”

“In this environment, time could be allocated as available,” he explains. “A half hour to mix some tracks, a late night insomnia session fueled by inspiration, or a weekend marathon, to record, layer, experiment, tweak, and finalize an idea. One person with the option to be creative without a schedule. In the end, you eventually come out with something tangible for your efforts, and if you did your job, others may like it too.”

Axel Wayn releases new single 'Step by Step (feat. Anthya)'

Italian-born Axel Wayn's introduction to music began with his parents, who sang in a choir. A famous musicologist inspired him to begin studying, and he began with classical music, attending conservatory. After years of private tutoring with renowned teachers, Wayn found himself performing for the Pope in Vatican City (among a great many other places).

Classical led him to study jazz, which gave him a soloist's chops and trained him in experimental music. Having been invited to collaborate with some DJs and digital music composers as a soloist, Axel Wayn finally came to love house, trance, and EDM, the style of music showcased in his new track, “Step by Step.”

There are similarities, of course, and Wayn is quick to point out that his past training often comes in handy.

“Every track in the DJ's set or at concerts is rearranged and also uses jazz techniques for improvisation,” he explains.

Speaking of the themes of the single he created with singer Anthya, who penned the lyrics, Wayn writes, “I prefer don’t speak about a specific message, because I think the listeners have to be free to feel their own emotions, or perhaps more messages that they are able to sense by listening to the song.”

Jose Uceda releases new single 'Lala Song'

Spanish composer Jose Uceda cites as main artistic influences Eddie Amador, Deep Swing, Roger Sanchez, and Junior Jack. IB Odd releases new single 'Coconut Rum'

Sha-D and DC release new single 'I'm Gone'

The rap team of Sha-D and DC have released their latest official single track, “I'm Gone.” The single comes from the larger official LP mixtape, “State of Mind.” Both bodies of music have been released on the What If Y Not Entertainment record label (often stylized WiYnE) one of the hip-hop genre's most remarkable and creative rising-star companies. “I'm Gone” by Sha-D and DC represents the most prominent publication from the duo and What If Y Not Ent. in recent months, and is slated to become available from online outlets soon after 20 March 2014.

DC and Sha-D (short for Derrick Carl Onuoha and Shakeem Durden, respectively) are urban poets from the New Jersey area, one of the world's oldest hotbeds of underground hip-hop music. DC has been described by WIYNE as having been led to music via an arduous and gritty youth in Newark.

“He remembers growing up and not always having the luxury of certain things that his peers around him had,” writes the New Jersey label on his behalf. “Making music is his passion. CMG Bosses release new singles 'Russell' and 'Play Harder'

The rap crew known as the CMG Bosses have released two new singles, titled “Russell” and “Play Harder,” respectively. The poets based in the Maryland and Washington, DC area have released these tracks on the Catch My Game Entertainment LLC music label. Each single has been concurrently released with both a version edited for radio play and a version tagged with the “Parental Advisory Explicit Lyrics” sticker. In addition to the considerable talents of the CMG Bosses, themselves, “Russell” also features the skills of Skinny A. Gritty, hard, ground-level and real as rusty nails, “Russell” and “Play Harder” are two singles which will challenge the underground hip-hop scene of today and place the CMG Bosses at the forefront of the East Coast urban music movement.

The official Facebook page of CMG Bosses describes them largely through the display of a large image banner at the top which reads, “Military Issue; the tools and situations survived only by the grace of God which are given in life to aid in your walk toward success.” This quote derives from their most recent LP album, also published on the Catch My Game Entertainment LLC music label, “Military Issue.” The album was released in a format labeled “street mix” containing 13 original tracks. It served to garner attention for CMG Bosses late in 2012 and again throughout 2013, and to set the stage for this new audio assault in “Russell” and “Play Harder.”

Both “Russell” and “Play Harder” focus on back beats and sly rhymes, with an emphasis on aggressive delivery and danceable grooves. They continue the CMG Bosses' tradition of making rap music for hardcore fans of hip hop, and seem to promise that CMG Bosses and Catch My Game Ent. will be active in the scene for many years to come.

DJ Vagif releases new EP 'In Dreaming'

The composer of electronic music known as DJ Vagif has released his debut EP record, “In Dreaming.” The album is comprised of six original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 20 minutes. It has been proudly published as an independent music release. A rolling electronica record based on a variety of grooves and contemporary digital music styles, “In Dreaming” stands as proof that DJ Vagif is one of America's most creative artists in the digital genre and outside of it.

Finding artists with whom to compare DJ Vagif's “In Dreaming” is difficult. The digital composer's official ReverbNation page cites such popular fellow DJs as Bonobo, 9^th Wonder, Pretty Lights, RJD2 and Ratatat as similar in style or sound. Still, Vagif's work on “In Dreaming” isn't like anything else. It's a record full of character and subtle innovations.

“I love Flume and his bouncy vocals and kick snare,” comments DJ Vagif. “I would say for this album Flume influenced me the most.”

Further discussing the raw ingredients that go into his music, DJ Vagif writes, “I produce all of the songs from the ground up. I had the chance to work with a young singer [Alms] from outside of the U.S. on track 2 from my album called 'Over You.' She did great, and wrote the lyrics herself.”

Vagif's sounds are spacious and ambient without at all belonging to the ambient subgenre of electronic music. His official bio calls him a Salt Lake City DJ, “releasing versatile mixes, singles, EPs, anything from electro, hip hop, mash-up, instrumental to dubstep and classic, all that consist of his own personality and different genres that surge through his headphones.”

In the end, his turntables prove to be one of his most important sonic weapons.

“I started getting involved [with music] after high school,” he writes, “with buying my first set of turntables. I loved the experimental style of turntablism, and making something your own unique sound. After a year I started spinning at local hip-hop shows and have not stopped. Producing has always been in my heart, and the turntables brought that out in me.”

Speaking of the themes in “In Dreaming,” DJ Vagif says, “I think my albums message generates everyday life with my listeners. From the ups and downs of the day and moods we go in through sound, and beats.”

Rolly Gibb releases new LP 'We Are the Boomers!'

It is aggressive, groovy, bluesy, and full of soul.

Speaking of the themes with which he has infused his LP, Gibb writes: “It is sharing the love for rock music, the soundtrack of our lives for us Baby Boomers, and also sharing the reality of our present, past and future. By sharing my own emotions and stories in music, I should not only revive the sound of our younger years but also highlight some of my generation’s [perspective] of today.”

One of the album's most touching moments comes at precisely its middle, at its heart, when Gibb's version of “You Were Not There” by his uncle, Jack Ledru begins. The piano for the song comes from one of Ledru's French records of the 1950s, accompanied by his nephew Rolly Gibb on guitar and singing. The English lyrics are Gibb's own, as is the new musical arrangement. It is a deeply touching moment and a work of great beauty. Ledru's original recording could not have been more profoundly moving than this edition, published nearly 70 years later.

Sound of Life releases new EP 'Rain'

“Sometimes you feel stuck in rain like you’re walking in quicksand,” he writes of his record. “But if you want to get it done, you can fly right to the sun.”

Speaking candidly of himself, Sound of Life proves incredibly introspective and more than somewhat introverted, as well, both of which his EP communicates.

“I write acoustic indie folk songs,” he writes. “They are about feeling down mostly. My biggest interests are music and politics. I’m walking around in quicksand right now, not moving myself forward. I really want to do something important in life. I don’t really play music anywhere, just at home. Right now I just want to get a girlfriend, play some shows and talk politics really. I guess getting your songs out there is a good first step.”

His final note is both humble and touching.

“I really don’t know what to write, I’m not sensational.”

Without a doubt, Sound of Life is soon to learn what it means to make a musical sensation.

Valleyman releases new album 'Hertzhague'

The long-admired composer of electronic music known as Valleyman has returned with a new version of his 1995 classic record, “Hertzhague.” The record has been digitized at top-quality for download everywhere in the world and is the proud debut release of Belgium's latest and most adventurous music label, Zon Records (link provided below). The 2014 release also includes a bonus track, “Thymus,” a crucial new addition for fans of Valleyman and of ambient electronica in general.

The new “Hertzhague” is a mammoth LP, comprised of 14 original compositions for a listening time of more than an hour. The record has stood for decades as one of the most principle and foundational albums in the electronica genre, and one which no fan of digital music can afford to miss.

Valleyman's sound is described variously as ambient, chillout, or progressive electronica, and sometimes all three, but at the time of its release the term “alternative music” was still the most widely used term to describe such music in the English world. Valleyman's tone has been compared to Pluto and Manuel Gottsching, Colfax, Mijo, Fingertwister, and Elba.

The title of “Hertzhague” is a compound of two words, 'hertz' and 'Hague,' the first of which is the scientific unit of measurement for sound wave frequencies, and the second being the capitol building and seat of government for the Netherlands in South Holland.

Valleyman is the professional name of Peter Velleman. He has also published records under the name, the Launch Project, and to date has four full-length, deeply respected records: “Exe,” first published in 1993 on 49-Parallel Records; “Boatdrill,” and “Angle,” both released on the popular XXP Records label. XXP was also the publisher of “Hertzhague” in its original form. “Managing the Meat” by the Electromen was released on Terminal Antwerp in 2002, and was a Velleman collaboration with the respected electronica composer, Dirk De Boeck. Velleman's talents appear on two De Boeck records to date.

Rapper Jok'a releases new single 'D.R.I.V.E'

The rap artist from Kansas City, MO known as Jok'a has released his latest official single, titled, “D.R.I.V.E.” The track is the most significant global release from Jok'a to date, and is expected to signal his forthcoming publication of many such professional quality tracks. In addition to the obvious talents of Jok'a, himself, “D.R.I.V.E” also features the extensive emcee skills of fellow mic man, Mr. Reece.

A heavy-hitting and explosive urban anthem from the heart of Missouri, “D.R.I.V.E” is already gaining traction as a surprise hit from the underground, and seems certain to put Jok'a on the map in short order. An official video teaser for the single has been published concurrently (link available below). Both “D.R.I.V.E” and its corresponding video have been released on the Turf Entertainment music records label.

Jok'a (AKA the Real Jok'a, and sometimes referred to as the Metaphor King) and Mr. Reece (AKA the Prince of Missouri) make a volatile combination in this, Jok'a's most prominent single. While “D.R.I.V.E” represents a first for Jok'a in terms of universal record distribution, he has self-published many excellent tracks on certain online avenues open to the public, such as Soundcloud, where the earlier releases which spring-boarded him to local and regional fame in the hip-hop scene, such as “Hell 2 Pay (feat. Marley Young)” and “It's Mine (also feat. Mr. Reece)” can still be enjoyed as of the time of this writing.

On his official YouTube channel, Jok'a himself writes of his new single, “I chose the title for the song 'D.R.I.V.E' because it captured the motivation of a lyrical artist, as well as being a family man and a father of four children. Every letter in the word has a meaning as follows – D: Determination, R: Respect, I: Integrity, V: Versatile, E: Energetic.”
