Iowa hip-hop band Purple Asteroid Cadillac releases debut LP “Take Shape”

Iowa hip-hop band Purple Asteroid Cadillac is releasing their breakout debut LP “Take Shape” Photobucket
Iowa hip-hop band Purple Asteroid Cadillac is releasing their breakout debut LP “Take Shape.” The album features eleven original hip-hop tracks comprising nearly forty minutes of back-to-back, heavy-hitting urban classics. The beats are heavy, the lyrics hard, the poetry flowing like liquid groove in one long, rolling wave of jazz and funk. Steeped in the Chicago traditions of drum and bass going clear back to the disco era, Purple Asteroid Cadillac's neo-soul sound is poised to shake the Mid-West music scene like a rattle.

The core of Purple Asteroid Cadillac are Rafael Greene and Shane Johnson. Greene (also sometimes known as Fooch, the MC) is originally from Chicago, Illinois, where he has been part of the rich, burgeoning hip-hop culture since 1993, although he notes of his musical experience that he has only begun taking his hip-hop seriously since 2008. Johnson (also called SHZA) on the other hand, is both an autodidactic musician as well as a classically trained one. His mainstays outside of hip-hop music are jazz and funk, which strengths are plainly showcased in Purple Asteroid Cadillac.

Greene has been a part of the flourishing Chicago Hip-Hop scene since 1993, but started taking his music seriously in 2008. Shane Johnson is a classically and self-taught musician with concentrations in jazz, funk and hip-hop. He is also the voice and personality behind KRUU fm's popular radio programs, “Universe Party” and “The Lounge Body.” Together as Purple Asteroid Cadillac, Johnson and Greene have performed on the big stage with such famous artists as Warren G., Scratch Track, and the Kidz in the Hall. Vice-President of A&R for DefJam Records, Lenny Santiago, has spoken very favorably of their collaborative efforts.

Of the message their record shares with their fans, Purple Asteroid Cadillac writes, “We want to share with our listeners through this album that hip-hop is alive and thriving in Iowa. This isn’t just our genre of music, it’s our lifestyle. We are Iowa Hip-Hop.”

With a sound influenced by the likes of hip-hop heroes Nas, Dr. Dre, Wu-Tang, Tupac, and Biggie Smalls, as well as soul legends James Brown and Stevie Wonder, Purple Asteroid Cadillac has performed over 140 live shows in their young career, creating four complete albums using four separate sound studios without feeling the need to publish them. “Take Shape” is, therefore, an entirely appropriate title for their flagship debut release. Fans of hip-hop music everywhere would be in great error to miss this adventurous powerhouse record.

New York alt-rock indie band The Racer releases LP “Passengers”

New York alternative rock indie band The Racer is releasing their newest LP album “Passengers”

Indie rock band from New York, The Racer is releasing their newest LP album, “Passengers.” The record is their most ambitious project to date, with over forty minutes of original music in twelve tracks, including a powerful introduction. The sound is easily better than the most popular singles being played on alternative radio stations today, and while this may seem extremely biased, even by music-journalism standards, the sheer divide between the quality of today's top performers and the superior power, groove and elegance of The Racer remains positively undeniable.

The sound of “Passengers” is grounded in alternative rock with indie rock overtones, similar to what might happen with a cross between early Pearl Jam and late Fugazi, with Pearl Jam lending their exceptional vocals and overarching tenderness through every hard-rocking moment, and Fugazi representing the profound creativity and complexity that infuses each of The Racer's tracks, both in lyrical poetry and prominence of percussion.

The Racer's guitars use a tasteful array of tones, some warm with a balanced amount of distortion, some clean and full of middle-range, all of them played with neither pretentiousness nor frivolity. The bass is more than a backbone, its lines cleverly walking up and down the neck in perfect marriage to the drums. The Racer's drums are arresting, volatile, and often surprising – never predictable except in keeping consistent time. Their vocals, even amid this surging sea of remarkable talent in composition and performance, still manage to stand out. The singing is intrepid, clarion, and beautiful without being effeminate, a quality most male singers in the indie rock scene have forgotten. Lyrics, too, along with the rest of the songwriting, are key components to what makes The Racer truly incredible.

Of their writing on “Passengers,” The Racer says, “The album fictionalizes a car crash in order to explore some different, very specific memories from all our lives. The message varies by song, but overall there is a general theme of never giving up or letting go of your dreams – no matter how it makes you look in other people’s eyes.” Additionally, The Racer has written that “Passengers” is a “deliberate and imaginative exploration of the moment-of-death soul searching that occurs in the wake of a devastating, fictional accident. Every aspect, from the lyrics and musical arrangements to the recording process and artwork, was approached under the pretext of this narrative.”

The Racer (formerly known as Stuedabakerbrown) are long overdue for a mainstream hit record. “Passengers” follows on the heels of The Racer's 2010 debut LP record, “Strangers We'll Become,” with which they have garnered considerable success. Music from “Strangers We'll Become” has been featured on such television programs as MTV's “Jersey Shore,” “The Real World: New Orleans,”and “The Challenge.” Additionally, their single, “Couch Sitting Rattlesnake” has been made available for the blockbuster video game, “Rock Band 3.”

Whether “Passengers” will be the album that moves The Racer into the mainstream spotlight or not remains to be seen, but the question of success is plainly answered. As a work of fine musical art, more success has not been seen in a record than exists in “Passengers” by The Racer. Veteran listeners and music fans, you have been alerted.

Digital music artist Doodis releases newest EP record “Hypnotic Dreams”

Mysterious Brisbane DJ Doodis is releasing his standout new EP, “Hypnotic Dreams”

In the beginning was the DJ, and the DJ created the beat, and the beat was good. This is the closing line of Brisbane digital music artist Doodis’ official website, the artist sometimes called “the Invisible Doodis,” who is releasing his standout new EP, “Hypnotic Dreams.” He wears this moniker as casually as he does his infamous wardrobe of face masks. More important than his image, however, is his sound – or more properly put – his sounds.

The pieces from “Hypnotic Dreams” are widely varied and appropriate for seemingly disparate emotions. Does the listener feel melancholy? The album has blue tracks for that. Optimistic? Doodis does glad. Lurky? Doodis has creepy tracks, too. His style overall is razor-sharp and clean, with lots of space between the individual loops and beats, not unlike the original innovators of electronica in the United Kingdom, such as MC 900’ Jesus or The Orb.

Regarding his style, Doodis writes, “My music conveys the emotions of everyday people -- overthinking, seriousness, isolation. Everyone struggles with negative emotions; my music helps people raise their energies and manage them.”
The Invisible Doodis, so-called, is so-called for his penchant for creating an illusion for himself using the aforementioned masks. There is debonaire Doodis, resting Doodis, frog Doodis, creepy hoodie Doodis, pervert gentleman Doodis, gas-mask with bouquet Doodis, romantic Doodis (a-la French masquerade), and heavy metal Doodis (a skull hovering above a black jacket). Mystifying and strangely addictive in character, Doodis seems to exist as the embodiment of his music.
As influences he lists godfathers of ambient music, as well as personal favorites: Brian Eno, Robert Fripp, David Byrne, John Cale, John Wardle. His opinion of his music is humble, yet exact. “I compose and take bits of uplofting music from around the world,” he writes, “weaving it into a tapestry that is unique.”

The tapestries he weaves – and there are many – are uniquely wonderful to hear. Every fan of electronic music owes it to himself to give “Hypnotic Dreams” a sit-down listening. Doodis will not be able to stay invisible for long.

The Price Is Rice releases newest single “With Eagles Might”

Veteran acoustic music trio The Price Is Rice have released their new single “With Eagles Might”

Veteran acoustic music trio The Price Is Rice have released their new single “With Eagles Might” on Acoustic Revolution Records. The song is a spirit filled composition in the tradition of classic American rock and roll, not unlike acoustic numbers penned and performed by the likes of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Don McLean, or Roy Orbison.

Having performed together for many years, members of The Price Is Rice Daimon and Steve first worked in a Christian rock and roll band called Kingdom. Kingdom saw modest success, opening for such powerhouses as Guardian and headlining their own shows in a steady stream of performances, but in time they felt ready for a hiatus from the rock scene. Joined by member Mark (Daimon's fellow musician from high school garage band days) the trio unplugged their instruments and began anew as the acoustic crew The Price Is Rice. Under this name Daimon, Steve and Mark have been playing acoustic covers of classics, as well as their own original songs, long enough to showcase their conglomerate power in this new single, “With Eagles Might.”

The Price Is Rice have not written the song purely for entertainment, however. As the title may suggest, there is an upright, steadfast, and red-blooded American message at the heart of “With Eagles Might.” Upon being asked what the moral of the tale might be, The Price Is Rice writes, “Despite the differences we may feel at times, especially in an election year, we are confident that our country comes together when it counts! Daimon wrote this song to help the [United States of America] heal and remember who we are, and what we stand for! He truly loves America and wants this song to be an American anthem, similar to Mellencamp’s ”Pink Houses” and ”Our Country,” or Garth Brooks' ”We Shall Be Free!”

The Price Is Rice single, “With Eagles Might” is available at the best online distribution sites starting December 8th, 2012, and is worth any music fan's listen. After all, it's helping the US of A heal where it hurts most.

Radiogramm releases newest LP “Following The Brush”

Russian band Radiogramm has broken all boundaries with their latest album, “Following the Brush”

Russian band Radiogramm has broken all boundaries with their latest album, “Following the Brush.” The record is a full-length masterpiece comprising thirty minutes of music in nine original songs. The music is exceptionally creative and pleasant, unique without being pretentious, and easily the most remarkable music from St. Petersburg in 2012, possibly much longer.

Their sound lies somewhere between indie and modern folk with delicate Latin undertones, a dash of urban hip-hop, and with a strong presence of jazz influence to ground the mixture. Utilized instruments include, among more obvious inclusions, the violin, the cello, the sitar, and the triangle. Each track on “Following the Brush” presents a slightly different style, showcases a different perspective of their panache. Some tracks are extremely jazzy, while others are more calloused and contemporary. Others are as romantic as a Spanish rose garden in the spring, and still others are just a whit away from disco funk. Radiogramm has one of the most widely varied (and most widely exquisite) repertoires in the music scene today.

This is not necessarily a surprising end result when one considers their roots: among their most important influences, they list Damien Rice, Lamb, Grizzly Bear, and Radiohead – in that order. Upon being asked what message their music is intended to bring to their legions of fans, they write, “Music is universal; it has no boundaries.” The statement is certainly true for Radiogramm.

Radiogramm is a project created by Mike Egorov, a singer and songwriter based in St. Petersburg. This record, “Following the Brush” represents his second album to be recorded and mixed at Snap and Bid Blue Water Studios in London by the infamous Jerry Boys. Boys is world-renowned for his Grammy-Award winning production and engineering and lends his art to Radiogramm in conjunction with Alexander Titov for the Red Book Music label.

Neeko releases debut single “Be Your Man”

At the age of 16, pop singer is already a sensational talent

Neeko has been singing for a long time – the artist says he was singing before he could talk.

Born May 26, 1996 in London, England, the young artist was acting and singing on television, in film and on stage from a very early age. He attended the World class Sylvia Young Theatre School in London and it was there that he developed his passion for music.
It’s no surprise then that at the age of sixteen, he’s already releasing his debut single. As Neeko, the artist recorded “Be Your Man” at the Paramount Recording Studios in Hollywood, and now the single is ready to make its debut November 15.
Neeko moved to southern California in 2011 to pursue his passion for singing, and has quickly moved up the ranks and earned a legion of fans. “Be Your Man” is just the first step in taking that passion for music to the next level and sharing it with the world.

With his distinctive vocal style and urban sensibility, Neeko fuses pop with hip-hop and labels his unique sound as “urban pop.”

Neeko’s influences include artists like Drake, Kanye West, Justin Beiber, Frank Ocean. The impact those performers have had on Neeko is evident in the arrangements and production of “Be Your Man” – a slick and catchy pop song with a hip hop vibe.
“Be Your Man” is of course, a love song. It’s about devotion, and commitment. Neeko might sum up the meaning behind “Be Your Man” better than anyone else.

In his own words: “The message to listeners is that there are only a handful of guys who know what a girl really wants.”
Neeko is currently at work recording new material for his upcoming debut album, which is scheduled for release sometime next year. If “Be Your Man,” is any indication, it’s an album to look out for.

The SS Frequency releases flagship self-titled LP album

Multinational music prodigy the SS Frequency is releasing his full-length self-titled album to resounding acclaim

Multinational music prodigy the SS Frequency is releasing his full-length self-titled album to resounding acclaim. The record is published on the Osiris Musical Production label, and is a marriage of digital electronica, rock n' roll, and various elements of ethnic music. The sound is clean, rhythmically charged, and the end result of many years of artistic development.

The SS Frequency is no newcomer to the music scene. Originally from Bahrain, he made a living in bands touring the college circuit in the United States for close to a decade before returning to his home country in 1989 as an electrical engineer. Still, the music scene there seemed underdeveloped, and Frequency made up his mind to add his talents to what he has called a “fledgling scene.” Performing concurrently with bands such as Osiris, Requiem, and Hard to Handle, he also worked as a DJ for Radio Bahrain 96.5 playing rock music. Leaving the Middle East for England, he again worked in radio as a producer for MBC for years before returning once more to Bahrain to start a now-famous dance show called SilkyCuts.

Throughout this personal journey, the SS Frequency has professed a belief in the potential for seemingly disparate genres of music to come together in an ultimate form, whatever actual form this amalgam might take. His effort in this vein is encapsulated in this self-titled LP, “The SS Frequency.”

Although many bands from many walks of life have had a positive effect on SS Frequency, his major influences include (but are not limited to) such historical artists as the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Rush, Thin Lizzy, and Jethro Tull, legends whose mark on Frequency is as indelible as his own tracks will undoubtedly prove.

When asked about the message his music is intended to convey to his fans and to his listeners, the SS Frequency has only this to say: “No rules, no limits and no labels!”

Acoustic Garden releases newest album “Mediterranean Mind”

Acoustic Garden is releasing their newest album, “Mediterranean Mind”

Acoustic Garden is releasing their newest album, “Mediterranean Mind.” The record is a full-length collection of originals as well as cover tunes that have made the crew of acoustic artisans famous in Europe. The music is extremely well orchestrated and features some of the best vocals in music anywhere, and indeed from any time.

Acoustic Garden have a variety of sounds, including a folk-inspired, classic-rock tone that reaffirmed their stardom in 2010, when they won the annual Christmas Song Contest sponsored by German radio station SWR1 with their rendition of “Under the Christmas Tree.” Yet this was only a refocusing of the spotlight on them, as Acoustic Garden had already had hits on Top-20 radio music lists going back to 1998 with their cover of Culture Beat's “Rendezvous.” In 1995, lead guitarist Frank Bülow's cover of “Inside Out” was reproduced and distributed on a Bravo Hits Sampler album rather than the original track.

The band's tradition of covering great music goes back to their original inspiration, the legendary but now-defunct MTV program, “MTV Unplugged,” which featured live shows of popular alternative rock n' roll bands playing their set on acoustic instruments. The show proved extremely popular, spawning many live recordings that would go on to be some of the featured acts' most well-known and best-loved work, and Acoustic Garden was born at first in imitation of this, just for fun. The band has been long since writing and performing their own work, however. Bülow writes of this:

“Way too long I was on the road, just playing the songs of others... Now I'm come along with my own songs, and with a band the likes of which has never been seen nor heard before!”

Obviously, Bülow's enthusiasm is high, but it's not just high – it's also infectious, and it's not just infectious – it's also extremely appropriate. Acoustic Garden are expert musicians of the highest and most laudable taste in music. Every song is their own, covered or not, and this, their newest record, is definitely worth any music fan's listening time.

Lory Bianco releases full-length album “Jesus Paid It All”

Lory Bianco has released her collection of hymns of praise entitled “Jesus Paid It All”

Lory Bianco (also sometimes known as Bonnie Bianco) has released her collection of hymns of praise entitled “Jesus Paid It All.” The record is a long-playing album composed of eleven remarkable, stunning tracks, showcased mainly by the striking, shining singing performed by Bianco, herself, although Bianco's exultant singing is not the only reason to pay heed.

Of the message with which she has infused her record, Bianco writes, “The message of my album is all about Jesus and His love for us. [These are] hymns for yesterday, today and tomorrow. I chose my favorite hymns of the 1800s, songs from the revival days, songs that profess the blood of Christ, the hope, the love, the opportunity of new beginnings.”

The nineteenth century “revival” Bianco refers to is called the American Second Great Awakening in history books, a scattered period of time when thousands of believers found renewed personal salvation gleaned from enormous gatherings called revival meetings across the entire United States of America. The abolition of slavery, among a great many other feats, was among the chief successes of the nineteenth century Christians to whom Bianco's collection of hymns would have been entirely familiar.

Her decision to select standard revivalist psalms and hymns of praise for her record reflects her earnest desire to merely “make a joyful noise to the Lord” [Psalms 100:1]. She is extremely capable of writing her own music, lyrics and all – and she does so on a regular and consistent basis – but “Jesus Paid It All” is an album entirely performed for the sake of the glorification of Christ, and of the God Bianco constantly remembers, recalls, and pays homage to in her art.

With regard to her art, her singing itself, Bianco writes, “My beginning influences were Linda Ronstadt, Olivia Newton John, Yvonne Elleman, Kate Bush, Laura Branigan and Enya.” Like these legendary chanteuses, Bianco uses a broad range and straightforward, arresting bearing, something many of today's female vocalists are either unwilling, or unable, to do. It is perhaps her earnestness and selflessness in the endeavor at hand that allow Bianco to sing with such ferocious and unbridled majesty, her voice always soaring, never lilting, always rolling like the wave, never falling like the droplet.

Whether the music fan is among the believers in Christ or not, Bianco's “Jesus Paid It All” is a shockingly astounding work of taste, expertise, beauty, balance, simply everything a great record is, and positively nothing of mediocrity at all, at all. If the cynic, agnostic, or atheist music listener can appreciate great music by famous believers such as Peter Gabriel or Leonard Cohen, he or she must not miss this fantastic album.

Brave Heart releases breakout single “In the Car”

Newcomer rap artist Brave Heart has released his breakout single “In the Car”
Newcomer rap artist Brave Heart (born Eric Hardin Benoit) has released his breakout single “In the Car.” The single boasts an irresistible beat, masterful mixing, in your face guitars, and an overall irreverent style not unlike that of fellow alternative rap legends, the Beastie Boys. The single is startling in its excellence, particularly in the writing of the lyrics and background mix, but its strongest attribute – by far – is its undeniable rhythm and groove. It is simply impossible to hear more than a measure without nodding the head, tapping the foot.

Brave Heart names as his major artistic influences the likes of Eminem and Kid Rock. These artists have had more than a passing effect on his own music, to be sure. From Eminem Brave Heart seems to have taken the ability to place rhythm and groove between lines so that one phrase melts into and overlaps with both its former and its latter framings. From Kid Rock, he has learned the power of the rock n' roll back beat with electric guitar, which energizing combination underlies his more orthodox use of contemporary hip hop drum and bass.

Brave Heart himself writes that his music is intended to convey the message of his belief in what he terms “the power of individual thought,” and this is certainly upheld by the obvious deliberation in his songwriting. Each line and word are meticulously crafted, and every beat and measure has been weighed for propriety, placement, flow and diction. Unsurprisingly, Brave Heart got his start in the music scene by writing lyrics for his friends. Naturally, this single “In the Car” was inevitable, and a full-length LP album is also expected (and already widely anticipated) from him.

Brave Heart's first single “How High” is also available for viewing online.

Haks Pheenom releases EP “Pheenom Strike 0.5”

Haks Pheenom has released his newest record, an EP called “Pheenom Strike 0.5”

Haks Pheenom has released his newest record, an EP called “Pheenom Strike 0.5.” The record is modern rap with heavy old-school influences and excellently written rhymes. Each of Pheenom's lines is a chunk of poetry, but his music never comes across as pretentious or posturing – a rare feat in the urban music genre of today. His beats are clean, his effects minimal, and the tone of the album is nothing but affirming, bold, and fearless.

Pheenom comes from unlikely cultural roots as a rap artist, both musically and geographically. Regarding this he writes, “[I] initially got a buzz for music during the late 80’s and early 90’s with Public Enemy, Run DMC, NWA, KRS1... Was also into reggae influences, i.e. Shabba Ranks, Buju, Terra Fabulous, Stone Love Sound System.” This alone is perhaps not surprising (although it should be noted that Pheenom's tastes read like the members of a legends-only club) but Pheenom's interests were to take a European turn.

“[I] did some dee-jaying whilst at South Bank and got heavily into UK drum 'n base. I got two decks and a mixer, box speakers, and started mixing from there,” he says. South Bank is an area of Central London, England located immediately adjacent to the south bank of the River Thames, a hotbed of British music and entertainment. It was here that Haks Pheenom cut his teeth. “I was doing tapes with friends based in Brixton at the time. I was heavily influenced by the smart lyrics of Tupac [Shakur] and, by the flow of Biggie [Smalls]. I was also listening to a lot of James Brown and Michael Jackson. I started to produce my own music in 2006 after obtaining a Samplitude (Magix Software). I had a strong urge the produce my own sounds and lyrics.”

Naturally, Pheenom's lyrics are marked by a thick layer of intelligence. No lyric is accidental. Each line is a work of great deliberation. According to the artist, himself: “My predominant role – as I envision it – is as a producer of captivating, mesmerizing music, and as a writer of well thought-out lyrics, [lyrics with] the right tools, with drive, and positive messages.

Whether the listener is an avid fan of rap music or not, it is impossible to hear Haks Pheenom and not smile. The wit and charm of the music is unstoppable. With a little help from the media and enough time to write a full-length LP, Pheenom is destined to turn many, many heads, and “Pheenom Strike 0.5” will be remembered fondly as the original springboard.

“As it was said,” quotes Haks Pheenom prophetically, “'So let it be written; so let it be done...’ We shall see.”

And indeed, we shall not only see, but hear.

Producer and songwriter Stephen Star releases new LP “Star Kids Music Club Presents: Pop Rock”

Stephen Star, Los Angeles based composer and leader of the Star Kids Music Club, has released his full-length album, “Star Kids Music Club Presents: Pop Rock” as half of a two-part release.
Stephen Star, Los Angeles based composer and leader of the Star Kids Music Club, has released his full-length album, “Star Kids Music Club Presents: Pop Rock” as half of a two-part release. This digital record has a classic-rock tone in the tradition of rock n' roll's best pop performers from the American fifties, sixties and seventies, covering such widely varied and popular styles as that of the Beach Boys, the Beatles, Queen, Roy Orbison, Chuck Barry, David Bowie, the Kinks, and much more. The music of Star Kids Music Club is intended to fill the gap between music for toddlers (such as Sesame Street) and music for adults, much like the work of alternative music geniuses They Might Be Giants, and easily as effective. Like other releases from the Star Kids Music Club, each track is not only expertly performed and engineered, but also so cleverly written and catchy that adult listeners will often find themselves wishing that the pop rock churned out by the music industry for adults were more comparable to it in terms of all-around quality and musicianship.

Star's lyrics in “SKMC Presents: Pop Rock” are entirely original and brilliantly written. True to the heart and soul of rock n' roll, Star's lyrics in his “Pop Rock” edition are less humorous than the themes found on his “Country Pop” Star Kids Music Club record, opting instead for lines about courageousness, character, confidence, feelings, and friendship, as well as a slough of others. True also to the high quality of the Star Kids... line of record releases, each of Stephen Star's carefully crafted lines sounds natural in cadence, rhyme and meter, his diction careful without sounding forced. His balanced use of poetic devices such as symbolism, alliteration and assonance make for extremely enjoyable listening, as well as an excellent introduction to higher writing skills for growing boys and girls. Star's writing is some of the best available, either for adults or for children.

Stephen Star is not new to music, nor to the study of human intellectual development. A Grammy-nominated songwriter, he also has a working educational background in sociology and psychology. He is a graduate of Shenandoah Conservatory of Music, and has worked for years with music professionals worldwide. Of his goal as a songwriter, Star writes, “Kids need songs to open their minds, and to provide them with positive messages from a friend. I wrote [this record] to be an album that kids, their friends, and their parents can listen to together, opening a line of communication about the topics in the songs.”

The music on “Star Kids Music Club Presents: Pop Rock” succeeds at this as well as the other Star Kids records – perhaps even a little better, if that's possible, owing to the sheer variety of tone available from the pop rock genre – and it belongs on the same top shelf with the best music for kids available today. Parents would do very well to give “SKMC Presents: Pop Rock” a listen, and also to pay attention to the other half of the Star Kids Music Club twin release, “Country Pop.”

Producer and songwriter Stephen Star releases new LP “Star Kids Music Club Presents: Country Pop”

Stephen Star, Los Angeles based composer and leader of the Star Kids Music Club, has released his full-length album, “Star Kids Music Club Presents: Country Pop” as half of a two-part release.

Stephen Star, Los Angeles based composer and leader of the Star Kids Music Club, has released his full-length album, “Star Kids Music Club Presents: Country Pop” as half of a two-part release. This digital record has an authentic tone in the tradition of country music's best performers, such as Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, or the Oak Ridge Boys, and is intended to fill the gap between music for toddlers (such as Sesame Street) and music for adults, much like the work of alternative music geniuses They Might Be Giants, and easily as effective. The music of “SKMC Presents: Country Pop” is not only expertly performed and engineered, but also so cleverly written and catchy that adult listeners will often find themselves wishing that more country pop, the kind produced for adults, were comparable to it in terms of all-around quality and musicianship.

Star's lyrics in “SKMC Presents: Country Pop” are entirely original, often humorous, and brilliantly written. Each line sounds natural in cadence, rhyme and meter, his diction careful without sounding forced. His balanced use of poetic devices such as symbolism, alliteration and assonance make for extremely enjoyable listening, as well as an excellent introduction to higher writing skills for growing boys and girls. His themes are varied, unquestionably positive, and often endearing. They include (among a great many others): learning, feelings, friendship, respect, safety, dangers, heroes, pets, patriotism, the acceptance of others and oneself.

Rick Moyer releases newest LP “Relaxing Music Pro”

Rick Moyer releases newest LP “Relaxing Music Pro”
Lifelong musician Rick Moyer has released his newest project “Relaxing Music Pro.” The long-playing album is comprised of over four hours of well-orchestrated, tasteful music to not only soothe the body and mind, but also to inspire the listener upon waking. The album is extremely deliberate. No measure, no beat, no tick is without purpose. The relaxation record is purportedly the first to cover not only the nocturnal hours, but also the dayime.

Part One of the album, “Relaxing Music Pro” includes tracks one through seven, each of which contains twenty minutes of listening. These songs are composed in such a way as to be suitable for entertainment, the workplace, long commutes, resting, or reading. Moyer's goal for this portion of the record is that listeners should be able to inspire and motivate themselves to progress throughout their day.

Writes Moyer of this, “The music specifically provides a sense of independence and individuality, which helps to promote enthusiasm and dedication. Through listening to the songs regularly, listeners can expect to embark on a journey of self-discovery and discover their individual identity.”

These may sound like lofty goals, yet they are not only met in “Relaxing Music Pro,” but surpassed. The first section of the album is exceptionally relaxing, as well as being motivational.

It bears mentioning, also, that the record is not a hodgepodge of digital samples of raindrops in limpid pools, nor is it awash in electronic, synthetic ambiance. Rather, the album is entirely music, each track of which could be performed on-stage with a five-piece band should Moyer ever decide to take “Relaxing Music Pro” on-tour.

Part Two of his album includes another seven tracks, each with another twenty minutes' playing time. This section is intended for relaxation, meditation, healing, massage, and sleeping. “During the night,” Moyer writes, “the music’s specific aim is to allow people to unwind and relax after a hard day's work.”
From the Rick Moyer website: “Through the use of binaural beats, Rick has created an album which enables every listener to enter a state of deep relaxation. In return, listeners can expect to have healthier and more peaceful sleeps, and thus begin leading a healthier lifestyle.”
In conclusion, the record is a pleasure to hear. If a healthier lifestyle can be the result, what could possibly be better?

Anna Aliena releases two variations of the Hungarian classic “Gloomy Sunday”

Berlin singer of 'alien pop' music, Anna Aliena, has released two variations of the Hungarian classic, “Gloomy Sunday.”

Berlin singer of 'alien pop' music, Anna Aliena, has released two variations of the Hungarian classic, “Gloomy Sunday.” The song was a global hit of the 1930s, and was performed as stock material during the swing era of jazz by big-band leaders such as Billy Holiday, Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Gene Krupa, Duke Ellington, and the Dorsey Brothers. It was originally written in 1933 by the Hungarian composer Rezsö Seress, who wrote the song in an apparent effort to make himself a musical success. “Gloomy Sunday” is a song full of yearning, pain, and regret (the Great Depression and the rise of fascism in Seress' home nation, Hungary, were happening concurrently). Its heartbreaking themes of death and futility caused a wave of mass suicide throughout the civilized world, and 'Gloomy Sunday' was almost banned. In the nineteen thirties and forties, the song's infamously dismal overtones were enormously popular. Today, Anna Aliena's dark, operatic style fits them like a glove in these, her two modern renditions, “Lovers in War” and “Suicide Drive.”
Aliena, whose EP, “Cinderella.,” was published by Go!Diva Records worldwide in August of 2012, is classically trained and possesses a remarkably strong voice in the mezzo-soprano range. Her style of goth revival is typified by a powerful emotional undercurrent in each of her songs, which she builds into a fugue-like tower of tension before soaring above the wall of music with clarity, vivacity and passion. She places her music into a genre all its own: alien pop.
Gloomy Sunday (Suicide Drive)” is a sprint toward certain doom at breakneck speeds. A digital arrangement of organs, hammering beats, and the rising and falling of Aliena's own arresting vocals, the piece is impossible to hear without experiencing a touch of anxiety, a tinge of fate, and a twang of the heartstrings. Like much of her other music, Aliena's “Suicide Drive” edition of Seress' classic is an intense ocean of instrumentation and operatic beauty.
Her other release, “Lovers in War,” is more traditionally goth-inspired, yet Aliena uses too many of her own techniques to call the track traditional in any way. True to her “alien pop” subtext, the single is entirely hers in tone and performance. The keyboards lift and swirl, the drums beat out a tribal, raw rhythm, and her trilling, commanding voice lies atop the sound like velvet on a turbulent ocean. The accompanying music video is properly morbid and black, and Aliena, herself, appears as dainty and disturbing as an undead doll, moving through the trees, rooms and walkways of a gorgeous ruins.
Aliena has penned new, highly poetic lyrics for each version. She says of her words, “The song deals with a suicide I’ve never committed…”
For music fans, “Gloomy Sunday” represents one of the art's most treasured and historic pieces. For Anna Aliena fans, “Suicide Drive” and “Lovers in War” are destined to represent some of her most thrilling and distinguishing accomplishments.

Stephen Edington releases Christmas single “The Newborn King”

Solo singer and songwriter Stephen Edington has released his standalone Christmas single “The Newborn King”

Solo singer and songwriter Stephen Edington has released his standalone Christmas single, “The Newborn King.” Like the rest of his repertoire, the track is heavily steeped in the best traditions of folk music. Opening with a sonorous and pensive cello line, “The Newborn King” immediately stands out as a departure from typical, sugar-sweet pop fare that is pumped throughout American malls during Christmas, cleaving more to the absolute best and most respectable seasonal music. Guided mainly by Edington's own rich, gorgeous vocals, the song also features an extremely elegant, subtle female harmony line, a violin to match the cello, and an exquisitely played piano, all of which are masterfully orchestrated by Edington. His lovingly penned lyrics are simple, earnest, and poetic without becoming pretentious.

The song is – in short – an instant classic that needs only public notice to become standard fare. Performing songwriters of this caliber are exceedingly few in number today, and particularly in the seasonal genre. Veteran music fans will be hard-pressed to find a modern musician comparable to Stephen Edington in the Christmas-music vein.

Perhaps the most endearing part of the track is that Edington seems to have constructed it motivated only by his own sheer joy in doing so. Of this he writes, “I absolutely love Christmas and Christmas music. This song came to me as inspiration in one sitting a December years ago, and has always been a favorite of mine. It speaks to the true meaning of Christmas, and about us being better people because of the Christmas feelings we have.”

Edington's first record was published in 2006 and is called “Concrete and Steel.” The work, still digitally available from some distributors, is perhaps not as polished and precise as “The Newborn King,” but listening to it makes clear that his talents are not limited to mere singles. Edington says, “It was my first published work and helped me hone my songwriting, arrangement, and recording skills. It also gave me the great opportunity to connect with many other artists and musicians to put together 'The Newborn King,' and future music.”

Thank heaven for it, too. With any luck, we can expect music of this same exceptional quality from Stephen Edington for a long time to come.

Rapper Justin Truth releases newest album, “Just Me: The Presence”

New York rap artist Justin Truth (formerly known as Pheucha) has published his newest release on Tattoo Productions, “Just Me: The Presence.”

New York rap artist Justin Truth (formerly known as Pheucha) has published his newest release on Tattoo Productions, “Just Me: The Presence.” The record is street wise, rough, tough, straight-up and entirely composed of Truth's own ostentatious personality. Originally known as Dionycest (a name begotten from a long tradition of rap battles with New York's Najee Tha Don), Justin Truth has been rapping professionally since circa 2000. Though “Just Me: The Presence” is his first full length LP since 2003's locally distributed “By Any Means Necessary,” another full length record from 2005, “Mix Bizness n' Pleasure,” was also cut by Justin Truth. All told, this places the total volume of his recorded material at over fifty official tracks, making him an up-and-coming prolific entertainer in the music industry.
Just Me: The Presence” is itself a voluminous album, being composed of twenty full length, original tracks, some of which reach toward the five minute mark, making this record an incredibly reasonable purchase for fans of the rap music genre (most full-length albums boast, at most, fifteen original tracks).
The overall tone of “Just Me: The Presence” is somewhat dark, not to say melancholy. The rapping is spoken in Truth's rich, rather deep voice, drawled out as if from the shadows of the city. Beats are all original and not derivative, the orchestration of which has been guided by Truth, himself.
Naming as major influences on his work the artists Joe Budden, Jadakiss, and Nas, Justin Truth says of this record that it communicates a simple message to his fans. “Trials are a part of life,” he writes. “There’s not always conviction. You control how bright that light at the end of your tunnel is.”
Just Me: The Presence” is poised to become Truth's most talented and ambitious collection of material yet. The true fan of rap music owes it to himself to experience the sound that comes straight from the underground.

English rock n' roll singer/songwriter JB Tel57 releases standout EP “Broken Heart”

Leicester, England, rocker JB Tel57 has at long last released his newest EP, “Broken Heart,” producing an instant classic.
Leicester, England, rocker JB Tel57 has at long last released his newest EP, “Broken Heart,” producing an instant classic. The record is comprised of four brilliantly composed, ingeniously performed and expertly engineered tracks about love, loss, regret and redemption.

Tel57's style is a swinging blend of American rockabilly a-la Elvis Presley or Chris Isaak, and the subtle complexities of British classic rock. His chord progressions feel intuitive and familiar, yet never fail to surprise and excite the longtime music fanatic, not unlike hearing songs from the Beatles, the Animals, or the Byrds for the first time. Classy, jazzy keyboards and vintage organs back Tel57's rich vocals and seemingly effortless guitar playing. His crooning, commanding voice is masculine without sounding macho, and perfectly measured in delivery and cadence while retaining the raw, earnest quality that makes it inimitable. He shares much of his spotlight with his background harmonies, also, which are as indispensable to his sound as those of the Monkees or the Beach Boys.

Also indispensable to JB Tel57's latest record is his encompassing theme, which is that of romance gone bad. In the EP's second track, “Paranoid,” JB sings, “Love is based on trust – I know you can't trust me – so have a little faith, my love, and you will plainly see.” In the album's closing track, “This Song,” JB Tel57 sings (more than somewhat heartbreakingly; the record is entirely aptly named) “And so my life is ending, my story I have told, I lost the love of my life and now I'm gray and old.”

While these lines may strike the reader as too sad for any rock-n'-roll fun, the truth is that the reading and the hearing are extremely different experiences. Ironically, the mood of JB Tel57's “Broken Heart” is not lugubrious – although “bright and cheery” wouldn't be a fitting description, either. Rather, the record is almost certainly just what JB intended for it to be: a cathartic rock n' roll jam that is all heart, all soul and all groove, all at the same time.

Upon being asked what message his EP album may offer his fans, JB says, “It's simple: try to understand the one you love, then try harder.”

No fan of rockabilly or classic rock should do without a listen of “Broken Heart.” It may be the most legitimate classic-rock release of 2012, and it's by far the most honest one.
