Ras Marcus releases new LP 'Turn Another Page'

The singer and songwriter of roots music known as Ras Marcus has released his latest LP record, “Turn Another Page.” The LP has been proudly published on the Mind Music Production independent music label without support from the corporate music industry. The album comprises no fewer than 13 original tracks from the artist for an approximate total listening time of nearly one full hour. Partly traditional, yet with fresh innovations which bespeak a brand of reggae the world has not yet heard, “Turn Another Page” by Ras Marcus is at once a return to classic roots music and a worthy addition to the reggae canon at large.

Ras Marcus cites as main artistic influences such contemporary titans of the reggae and toasting scene as U Roy, I-Roy, Big Youth, Ranking Joe, Sister Nancy, Sugar Minott, Capleton, and Beres Hammond. The understanding – or overstanding, as it is often stated in Rastafari – of self and of personal identity is central to the way of life that is Rastafari. This way of life is a central idea in the music of Ras Marcus.

He writes that the message of his new album, “Turn Another Page,” is “The message of understanding one's self and that there is a divine power that guards over us and gives us the ability to create music for the world. The music that I sing will help to unify the nation through the message and teachings of Rastafari.”

Also at the heart of the Rastafarian way of life and of roots music, therefore, is the concept and practice of love.

Electronica band Factions releases new self-titled LP

Chrono releases new single 'All We Do'

The rapper from Chicago known as Chrono has released his latest hip-hop single, “All We Do.” The track has been released in both a definitive version and one edited for public radio, both of which are available to the public online. It has been proudly published on the Laconic Music Group independent record label. Rowdy, aggressive, and full of thumping, pounding bass, “All We Do” is evidence that Chrono is a name to watch in the global hip-hop underground.

“My influences are a small portion [of my sound],” Chrono writes, “but they matter to me.”

Among the tracks on “Edifier,” one in particular stands out in terms of style and theme: the memorial anthem, “Irreplaceable.”

Speaking specifically of the track, Tyde Moore write:

“This song is about us (all children of God), each being irreplaceable in His eyes. Just as a parent may have several children, if they lose one child, that child can never be replaced by another no matter what similarities they may have.

“We consider 'Irreplaceable' to be the most suitable for radio from the new 'Edifier' EP, along with 'Let Me Be Your Mouth,' but all songs from the EP were made with radio airplay in mind. 'Irreplaceable' is dedicated to David Moore's brother, Kenneth Howe, who is proof that each of us are irreplaceable.

“Kenny died in 1992 of Leukemia and if you ask any of his family, especially his mother and David's mother, Betty, they will tell you that he can never be replaced in their hearts. If we can love someone so much, how much more can God love each of us?”

A recent post to David's Twitter account reads, “Kenny didn't have last the name Moore, because he had a different dad, but he and my bro Vee, I will always consider to be my full (not half) brothers.”

Over the Reason release new LP 'Qualms of Reality'

We recorded even the seaside waves at Omaha Beach, Normandy, on an evening in Summer 2011.”

Half of the W91, Massimo, began his music career as a bassist in the 1990s before leaving pop music to play classical guitar for more than a decade.

“I played as classic guitarist in theatres [pieces such as] Antonio Vivaldi's 'Concert in D-Dur for guitar and Orchestra,' and some of Johann Sebastian Bach's Suites – 1001 and cello suites.”

The other half of the W91 is Jacqueline, who takes her name in memory of the beloved Jaqueline du Pre.

“I needed a voice from the past,” explains Massimo, “warm and sad at the same time, a voice able to live and love the stories while singing them, able to make each single word meaningful to the listener.”

Jacqueline's clear, clarion, crystalline vocals stand out as one of the single's chief charms. Alongside her remarkable singing, the singular studio production of the single is also noteworthy.

Massimo writes of this, “And then I needed a particular vintage sound: so I asked Simon Heyworth (Tubular Bells, King Crimson) to master the songs using only tapes, to have as analog a tone as possible.”

Bubba Groove releases debut EP 'Music for the Average Hillbilly'

Zenith Horizon releases debut EP 'Colour Is Key'

The digital music veterans known as Zenith Horizon have released their latest EP record, “Colour Is Key.” The record is composed of six original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 35 minutes, making it more of a brief full-length album than merely an extended-play release. It has been published on the Inertech Music Group independent record label. Characterized by intuitive and expert songwriting, old-school electronica effects, and a spaciousness not to be found easily in today's burgeoning EDM music market, “Colour Is Key” is an album for fans of digital music who haven't been excited about a modern release for far too long.

Zenith Horizon cite as main artistic influences Orbital, the Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, the Orb, and the Prodigy, all of whom are some of the digital sound's most seminal innovators. Certain to please longtime listeners of the genre, “Colour Is Key” has all of the slick, futuristic, and shadowy undertones which first popularized the underground digital scene in the early 1990s. Zenith Horizon's official bio reveals them as Al Dixon and Kev Salisbury, two DJs from the original house music subculture in the United Kingdom. Each performed opposite the other for many years in the DJ, house music and rave subcultures. Now in their thirties, Dixon and Salisbury have banded together as Zenith Horizon to produce modern variations of the original sound that started it all.

Art&Sax release new single 'Introduction et Variations sur une Ronde Populaire (Fonai Remix)'

The saxophone quartet known in Europe and internationally as Art&Sax have released their latest single, “Introduction et Variations sur une Ronde Populaire (Fonai Remix).” The track is the most significant official release from the group since their popular July 2014 debut EP, “Gare St. Lazare,” which garnered them positive remarks from music critics and casual listeners alike from around the globe. The Fonai remix of “Introduction et Variations sur une Ronde Populaire” by Art&Sax is the most recent example of today's classical resurgence in modern listening trends, as well as a sign that classic compositions can still be renewed by players like Art&Sax with dazzlingly creative, contemporary flair.

“Introduction et Variations sur une Ronde Populaire” is a standard classical piece for saxophone quartets by French composer Gabriel Pierne. Art&Sax's masterful performance of this selection has also been rendered into its razor-sharp, hyper-futuristic present form by digital composer Fonai, AKA Andrzej Pieszak. Pieszak is a Warsaw-based DJ specializing in sounds and sonic textures of new-millennium urban landscapes. The electronic frills etched by Fonai onto the flawless brass canvas of Art&Sax results in a track that is part classical, part jazz, and all good.

Art&Sax have published “Introduction et Variations sur une Ronde Populaire” on New York's Scotch and Murder Music independent record label, to which they have been unwaveringly loyal. The label's steadily growing strength in both underground and mainstream listening circles is at least partially due to top-shelf remixes of pop music by the likes of Willow Smith and Arcade Fire, but more importantly to original recordings by performance groups like Art&Sax.
