Pianist Alchymie releases new seasonal LP 'Midnight Clear'

The pianist known only as Alchymie has released her instrumental LP of seasonal music, “Midnight Clear.” The full-length album consists of no fewer than 15 tracks for a grand total of over an hour's listening time. It has been proudly released independent from involvement with the corporate music industry. Gentle as a winter breeze yet evocative, moving and even inspiring at times, “Midnight Clear” is the latest reason for fans of instrumental music to pay close attention to the elegant and intuitive playing of Alchymie.

Asked to name some key musical influences for her “Midnight Clear” LP, Alchymie cites imagery rather than people: “A clear northern winter sky full of stars, the clean newly fallen snow, the stillness as everything waits, the absolute perfection and beauty of a moment in time … midnight clear.”

As unbelievable as it may seem, these ideas go a long way toward suggesting the overall sound of “Midnight Clear,” which album takes its name from the 1849 classic, “It Came Upon the Midnight Clear” (Track 9 on the record). This makes perfect sense, as Alchymie's selections for her new LP are the same songs and carols which have signified the holiday season for nearly two centuries.

The songs on “Midnight Clear” include such time-honored compositions as “Silent Night,” “Good King Wenceslas,” “We Three Kings of Orient Are,” and “What Child Is This.” Also of note, Alchymie closes out her album with the New Year's Day tradition of “Auld Lang Syne,” followed finally by what may be the oldest surviving holiday song, “Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming,” which first appeared in its modern form in 1599.

These songs have qualities and characters all their own, but the collection, presentation, and overall performance of the album belong solely to Alchymie, a pianist with as much character and soul in her playing as the songs have in their grand histories. She lends to each track an inventiveness and imaginative interpretation which manages to be both innovative and unique as well as strikingly respectful to the original pieces. Returning fans of Alchymie will remark that nobody could balance these aims the way Alchymie can.

The artist describes the message of her new instrumental LP in the following paragraph:

“The magic imparted by a particular time of night during the holiday season, just before midnight when things go clear, it's quiet. The snow has given a hushed blanket of solitude in which we can relax, reflect and enjoy the holiday season through ambient stillness with soundscapes that remind us of familiar holiday melodies but allow our thoughts and hearts to drift even further.”

“Midnight Clear” by Alchymie is available online worldwide beginning Sept. 1, 2015. Get in early, fans of piano and holiday music.

DJ HRTZ releases popular new single 'Accidentally Acid'

Australian digital music composer HRTZ has released her premier dance single, “Accidentally Acid.” The prominent track features original vocals by Canadian DJ Kwe. It has been proudly published as an independent release outside the influence of the corporate music industry. Pulsing with groove, subtly unstoppable, and so easy to fall into that fans of all genres can agree on it, “Accidentally Acid” is a traditional house music anthem with a modern edge that suggests HRTZ will be at the top of her game for years to come.

HRTZ cites music influences from the UK house-music scene, such as Maya Jane Coles and Carl Cox, as well as Russian DJ Nina Kraviz. Listeners familiar with the works of these digital composers will recognize common traits between them: tight, spacious beats, minimal instrumentation, and slow builds that rely on tasteful texturing rather than “are you all ready for this”-style crescendos. Like the music of HRTZ, herself, this is electronic music that has much more to offer than your kid brother's MacBook masterpiece.

The difference may lie in HRTZ's musical roots, which differ greatly from that of many digital composers today.

“I was originally a singer-songwriter,” HRTZ writes. “I wrote blues and folk songs and played around the open mic nights in Melbourne. I also played an open mic night in Canada while on holiday and in San Francisco, too. It was fun to experience a different audience from the Australian one.”

Another key quality her new single boasts is that of an underlying complexity. Its patient, classy minimalism allows for a tacit communication between the music and the music fan. It isn't blaring, isn't gaudy, isn't obnoxious. This electronic music doesn't yell – it speaks.

“'Accidentally Acid' is about letting go of the daily grind and realising it's not about the gadgets and the quick sugar rushes that we experience in life,” writes HRTZ. “It's about something much deeper than that. It's personal to every listener.”

Maybe that's why her single has collected 6,000 plays in the few weeks it's been available for listening – just on her official SoundCloud page alone – and this with precious little hype but word of mouth.

HRTZ (Toyah Hoetzel) is a Melbourne-based house-music producer and DJ affiliated with Beyond The Beat UK & AU. She grew up getting into gay clubs underage in the industrial areas of Melbourne's grimy Collingwood district. She found her feet amongst the lovers of vocal house where sweaty, bass-driven remixes of divas such as Whitney Houston were a regular vice for many.

Originally a classically trained guitarist and then a singer-songwriter, HRTZ loves and focuses on melodic shifts in tension in her sets, and by doing so commands control of the dance floor. Inspired by the electro movement in Melbourne's more obscure clubs like Honky Tonks, Eurotrash Pop Shop and The Croft Institute in the early 2000s, HRTZ was exposed to such legends as Ajax, John Course and Carl Cox, where her love of vocal, electro and house were entrenched.

HRTZ returned to her musical roots on a digital platform in 2013 pioneering TopDeckDJs and entered as a newcomer into Melbourne's club scene with a variety of sounds from house, tech-house, trap, moombahton and bass-heavy EDM sets. She now produces what she loves, indie dance and deep-house tunes, and is gaining momentum as a DJ, producer, and digital-sample artist.

“Accidentally Acid” by HRTZ and feat. DJ Kwe is available online worldwide beginning Aug. 31, 2015. Get in early, house-music fans.

The singer and songwriter from Ontario, Canada known as Michael LeClerc has released his new self-titled EP album, “Michael LeClerc.” The record is composed of six LeClerc originals for an approximate total listening time of 20 minutes, making for a comprehensive introduction to this popular performer from Ontario, Canada. Warm, upbeat, and accessible to fans of virtually any music style, “Michael LeClerc” by Michael LeClerc is sure to snare the attention of singer-songwriter fans around the world.

LeClerc's music, while unique in its tone and surprisingly smooth delivery, fits well in record collections which may include James Taylor, David Gray, Jackson Brown, Dave Matthews, John Mayer, or Van Morrison. Simply cross-referencing the general feel of songs by the above can approximate the tenor and acoustic groove of the “Michael LeClerc” EP, though it must be heard in its entirety to be appreciated and understood.

Part of this is due to the highly textured musical background of the artist. In addition to Dave Matthews and Van Morrison, LeClerc cites as main artistic influences higher-octane acts such as Neil Young, Led Zeppelin, and Nirvana, as well as masters of emotional crescendo like John Mayer and the Beatles.

Michael LeClerc has been singing since the age of eight and playing guitar since 14. After moving to the Cayman Islands in 2007, LeClerc started a band, Smooth Bill, with which band he came to perform for audiences numbering in the thousands. In time, Smooth Bill reached more listeners via online radio stations and on public radio in the Caymans, prompting LeClerc to focus on his music.

He recorded his debut solo EP, “Radio” in 2010. He has since moved to California where he performs as a featured artist at wineries all along the coast, as well as at the Renaissance Hotels as part of their RLIFE Concert Series. The series showcases premier independent musicians and has helped launch careers for acts like Bruno Mars, Robin Thicke, and Neon Trees.

Yaro J releases new electronic dance EP 'Electrik Love'

The producer of electronic dance music known internationally as Yaro J has released his anxiously awaited EP, “Electrik Love.” The album includes four original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 17 minutes. It has been proudly published as an independent release without the interference or support of the corporate music industry. Pulsing, thumping, roaring and soaring, “Electrik Love” is a summer finale for lovers of EDM which proves that Yaro J is a producer to watch for in 2015 and beyond.

There's much to look forward to in “Electrik Love” for listeners of the genre. In addition to the considerable talents of Toronto-based Yaro J, himself, the EP record also showcases the skills of Diana Richie and Victoria Gouveia. The combined talents of these three artists coalesces into an explosive and sensual dance experience which works as well in nightclubs as it does in car stereos and ear buds.

Yaro J's “Electrik Love” has been widely publicized by official video trailers directed by Andrew C which began appearing in mid August. Each of these trailers has received thousands of views in the mere two weeks they have been available. Yaro J's fan base can be safely estimated in the scores of thousands, therefore, making him one of the more intriguing EDM producers to emerge this year.

The EP album's first single, “Let Me Dream” feat. Victoria Gouveia, has drawn especial attention from fans and critics alike. Its swan song featuring Diana Richie also forms a large part of the record's appeal. “Fly” closes out the album, complete with a six-minute extended remix as an added bonus. Many listeners will play both tracks back-to-back rather than pick a favorite.

All in all, “Electrik Love” brings color and verve to EDM fans ready to see what fall has to offer them. If “Electrik Love” by Yaro J is any indication, there's going to be plenty of good dance music.

Nina Maria releases new sonic-art album 'From My Upbringing'

The rapper and sonic artist known as Nina Maria has released a new, full-length album, titled, “From My Upbringing.” The record contains no fewer than 28 tracks for a grand total of approximately two hours' listening time. It has been proudly published on the Coinxiding Arts Entertainment independent record label. Bringing together the synth beats of hip hop and the earnestness of spoken-word poetry, “From My Upbringing” is a rare delivery of truth from this inimitable artist from Missouri.

“From My Upbringing” is not simply music. In addition to rapping that comes off-the-cuff as naturally as breathing, Nina Maria's new album has elements of improvisational jazz which make it remarkable as fine, sonic art. It is plainly real. The artist does not pretend, posture, or pose, neither coats, nor gilds, nor adorns these words. The result is a collection of stream-of-consciousness English which describes this thinking, feeling person in as clear and direct a manner as language can make possible.

The bitter circumstances which make this possible are several, but largely it is the creative method of the artist which makes this record the thing of beauty that it is. Every one of Nina Maria's lyrics are improvised. The recordings are, therefore, live performances.

“I freestyle all my songs now,” the artist writes, “because I have schizo-effective disorder. I also make all my beats.”

The story leading up to this legitimate work of genius describes (and is not limited to) graduating high school with a 5.0 GPA via advanced-placement classes, a tour with the US Marines as a computer systems specialist, an abusive relationship, a stint of homelessness, and an ongoing battle with schizophrenia.

– And as stated, this is not nearly the entire story: “I was misidentified by someone from a shooting in the [Columbia, MO] area. I was arrested and up against 30 years. I took a plea when the number got to four [years] because I knew they were trying to hang me out to dry. I did two inside and walked down two years' parole. By God's grace He got me back to Eolia.”

Nina Maria responded to this maltreatment by releasing four digital albums. “From My Upbringing” is merely the latest in a repertoire which includes also 2014's “Santa Maria's Corruption” and “By the Way,” published only last spring. Each has been made available online worldwide and is categorized as rap and spoken-word poetry.

Maria cites as main artistic influences Beethoven, Stevie Wonder, the Isley Brothers, DJ Paul, and a Tribe Called Quest.

Asked to comment on the themes and messages of “From My Upbringing,” Nina Maria writes, “No matter who you are, we all go through ups and downs and struggle.”

“From My Upbringing” by Nina Maria is a glorious celebration of individuality, the naked sound of a person skilled in rhythm and rhyme speaking thoughts in song. It is a representation not just of Nina Maria, but of us all, and it deserves much praise and attention.

Nina Maria's “From My Upbringing” is available online worldwide.

Livid Lover releases new LP album 'Don't Worry, I'll Always Love You… and of Course… Mess With Your Head'

The alternative-rock group Livid Lover has released a new LP album, “Don't Worry, I'll Always Love You... and of Course... Mess With Your Head.” The full-length record comprises nearly a full hour of highly textured, evocative rock music in 11 original tracks. It has been published as an independent release without the interference of the corporate music industry. Integrating elements of post-grunge, alt-rock, shoegaze and much more, “Don't Worry, I'll Always Love You...” from Livid Lover is a expansive, immersive rock experience that any fan of underground rock music can get lost in.

Livid Lover cites as main artistic influences Jeff Buckley, the Cure, Trent Reznor, Tool, Smashing Pumpkins, the National, Sia Furler, Teagan and Sara, and Pink Floyd. The sound of “Don't Worry...” has notable elements of each of these (the operatic composition style of Pink Floyd, the emotional access of Jeff Buckley, and the patient spaciousness of Smashing Pumpkins, for instance) which combines to form a multifaceted whole with moments of both hard and soft extremes.

This makes Livid Lover's new record hard to nail down, but one of its chief charms is that it doesn't lend itself well to categorization. Part of this, too, is the earnest and unadorned singing style of singer-songwriter Blake Nolan Hanson (also of Halo Minor). His articulate, yet passionate singing conveys all the meaning with which he has infused his very deliberate lyrics, and does so in tones reminiscent of John Doe (X) Brandon Boyd (Incubus) and Jeff Buckley.

This careful balance results in high-impact, refreshingly unassuming rock music that the listener can take as seriously or casually as he or she may like. It is accessible to nearly everyone who enjoys a good blend of hard and soft, loud and laid-back alternative rock. Like its title, “Don't Worry, I'll Always Love You... and of Course... Mess With Your Head” can be as complex or as simple as the music fan prefers. Were it liquor, one could call it smoked cognac, or just rye whiskey.

Asked to comment on the themes of their new record, Hanson writes, “This record has recurring love, loneliness and vulnerability themes. [It's about] being invisible in and to the world, and how that fact in itself can connect those bold enough to live a loner life trying to improve themselves on a daily basis.”

Some of his music has plenty of personal importance, too. One track in particular could easily have ended in tragedy.

“'Come Away,'” writes Hanson, “started as a suicide pact song a fellow songwriter and I had together that twisted into an anti-suicide song. I strive to be compelling and unique in my writing. I feel it to be very important.”

'Unique' (not to say 'weird') describes Livid Lover's sound fairly well – a trick nobody has perfected. Hanson knows this and respects the value of it, too.

“All I've learned about the dying music industry I keep in the back of my mind as a silly motivator,” says Hanson. “I'm ever trying to prove wrong the old formulas. I feel I am un-pigeonhole-able and don't take myself too seriously, but I do make serious efforts to drop jaws with my projects. I try to be epic and write my interpretation of beautiful is what I'm getting at. I feel conformity is the wrong path to walk.”

Livid Lover plays and performs in the Minneapolis area.

“Don't Worry, I'll Always Love You... and of Course... Mess With Your Head” by Livid Lover is available beginning Aug. 22, 2015.

Atlanta rapper Yoshi releases new single 'It's a Go'

The rapper known as Yoshi (usually stylized Y0$#!) has released his latest hip-hop single, “It's a Go.” The track has been released independent of support from the corporate music infrastructure. Booming with bass, animated with classic video game references and showcasing the vocal talents of one of Atlanta's most original underground artists today, “It's a Go” by Yoshi is one of the most creative hip-hop singles to emerge from summer 2015.

Highlighting what is perhaps the most diverse musical background of any rapper in recent memory, Yoshi cites as main artistic influences Stevie Wonder, Busta Rhymes, Jay-Z, Daft Punk, Justice, Africa Bambaataa, Kenny G, Sade, Mozart, and classic musicals such as Gigi and The Sound of Music.

This individualism is at the heart of Yoshi's character both onstage and off. It's palpably audible in “It's a Go” and other tracks available online for listening from Yoshi, and he's quick to speak openly about not fearing to be different.

Asked to comment on the theme of his new “It's a Go” single, Yoshi writes, “Be you and never let anyone change that fact.”

Yoshi, who is originally from Cincinnati, got his start in hip hop as a beatboxer. As his older brother and friends cut their teeth making rhymes, Yoshi provided organic beats. This off-the-cuff element to his music has also stayed with him. Does he write his own lyrics? Yes, he does. He remarks, however, that most of his songs are freestyles written in the moment of performance.

The artist has been noted for his ability to mimic “almost any sound.” One commenter on his official SoundCloud page even asks where he got his Nintendo-based sample from for “It's a Go.”

Yoshi has at times been likened to Big KRIT, Young Jeezy, Linkin Park, Blink 182, David Banner and Pastor Troy.

He has performed as far away as the SXSW festival, and as close at hand around Atlanta as Buckhead's Hole in the Wall, Edgewood's Esoral, midtown's Enclave, downtown Atlanta's Winston Cigars, and in the East Atlanta Village's iLounge and Union venues.

“It's a Go” by Yoshi is available online for listening from the artist's official website now [link provided below]. It becomes available for purchase at over 750 online music outlets worldwide circa Aug. 22, 2015.

A First Look at Eric Alán's “My Favorite Sin”

For those of you fans of pop music living in NYC who haven't yet heard of Eric Alán, it's time to come out from under that rock and get a good look.

His “My Favorite Sin” official video premiered Wednesday on BoyCulture.com, YouTube and elsewhere, and unless you have something against rock-solid back beats, darkly driving synths, and singing that recalls everything that was ever good about the Euro-alternative scene of the 1990s, then you've got some very good music coming to you.

But the music is just a glimpse of the overall picture.

The first word that comes to mind describing Eric Alán's “My Favorite Sin” video is blood. (Well, actually, it's 'beats,' but 'blood' is a close second.) “My Favorite Sin” is an almost shockingly visceral experience in terms of both sight and sound. Its jabbing, pounding, pummeling boxing motif makes for particularly violent viewing as pop-music videos go, giving an even sharper edge to an already evocative and adrenaline-fueled song.

The song itself has a shadowy tone reminiscent of Depeche Mode's Violator record, but with house-music additions which make it far more danceable and energetic, something fans of Eric Alán won't find surprising. Alán's lyrics are worth hearing and thinking about, too. They're clearly very intimate to him in particular, but describe the feeling of civil war within us all very well, also.

Alán's theme of fighting allows for personal, profound and startling symbolism, much more so than mainstream music generally cares to indulge in, though of course the focus of “My Favorite Sin” remains the dancing, the singing, and the (ahem) undulating.

This is, maybe, the most impressive bit about Eric Alán's new video: it's catchy, it's sexy, it's shocking in its ferocity and a hell of a lot of fun to watch – but it's also meaningful, dead honest, and nakedly human (even literally). By the end of the 4.5-minute show, “My Favorite Sin” even manages to be wise.

With sledgehammer symbolism, the title bout in “My Favorite Sin” is between reigning champ, Eric Alán, and his ominous, black-knight challenger … Eric Alán. Contrary to inner-struggle stereotypes, though, it is not a battle of good vs. evil, and the video gives few clues as to which Alán the music fan should be cheering on. In fact, it's entirely uncertain which of them Alán, himself, would prefer to win, the unavoidable point being that they're both beating agony out of one another and neither of them will relent.

It's a bloodbath. There's sweat everywhere. If there are tears to go with these fluids, they're too mixed in to tell.

The song is performed by a graying Alán at center ring. He wears a dapper tuxedo and sings into a dangling bullet mic like a classic announcer of championship title fights. This Alán represents the scarred and aged Alán, the post-career Alán, the one who gave up fighting long ago, presumably because it's a destructive, brutal sport in which he either didn't care to continue – or eventually couldn't.

There's even a shot of Alán training which includes his adorable little dog (whose actual name happens to be Rocky, no less). The pup sticks by the singer and works as a kind of foil against all the carnage, looking positively innocent and joyful even as his master strives to ensure that he can devastate himself as totally as possible when the time comes.

Naturally, there's a ton of exceptional dancing featuring Eric Alán's onstage dance crew, dancing being at the heart of his music and live performances. There's also an amount of male flesh – male flesh that is literally inspirational. It's arresting. Eric trained for months to pull off the boxing character in his video, and it definitely shows.

All in all, the official video for “My Favorite Sin” by Eric Alán is a round-one knockout. Bringing sound, style, dance and even philosophy to the table in one flexing and grimacing package, it's far more than his fans or critics could possibly have expected.

It's a game changer for independent music videos and music vids in general, proving not only that pop music doesn't have to be insipid, but also that if the mainstream doesn't keep its guard up and come out swinging, indie artists like Eric Alán are going to massacre them. TKO.

From Coast to Coast with NYC Pop Singer Eric Alán

LONG BEACH, Calif. (Aug. 12, 2015)

In August of 2015 I got a chance to chat online with New York City's preeminent indie pop icon, Eric Alán, about his new “My Favorite Sin” video and much more.

I'm a music journalist in Long Beach, CA, the Port of Los Angeles. Long Beach hosts the third-largest Pride celebration in the United States, and its musical culture boasts such names as Sublime, Snoop Dogg, Jenni Rivera and a great many more.

But hot news of the independent music scene in New York City, our geographical opposite, isn't as easy to come by as one might suppose. So naturally I'm keen to hear all about it when someone tips me off to a rapidly rising star in the East, and singer/performer Eric Alán couldn't possibly be shining more brightly.

Alán has been performing since 2011 and is the face and voice of popular music videos such as “L.O.V.&E.” and successful dance singles like “Pornstar.” His vertical climb to prominence has made him one of the most visible independent pop artists on the East Coast, as well as one of the best-loved performers available for listening and viewing on the Internet.

Our online exchange left me with the impression that Eric Alán isn't just a performer with all the right moves, a perfect ear for pop music, and – let's face it – some startlingly good looks, but also that he's a modest and goodhearted man with a penchant for fun and endless amounts of graciousness for the people he works with in music.

He laughs easily and often, and puts music and dancing before all other artistic concerns.

Here's what the artist who insists he has no fans – only friends – had to say.

So to start at the beginning, how did you get started writing and performing music?
I was noticed dancing on a speaker by the manager of a Latin dance artist. She suggested to me that I back-up dance. I went for it and did some shows. During that time, I got to meet and know different producers. One of them approached me and said I should take a shot at writing my own music and doing my own thing. I wrote and recorded a few tracks in Spanish, then went on to English. That's where it all started.

How would you describe your music?
I absolutely love to dance … so there is always that element of dance music, whether it be in the original cut or remixes.

Is it true you were voted NYC's No. 1 LGBT performer? What was that like for you?
Yes it is! LOL. Get Out Magazine sponsors a yearly award ceremony, and I did win. With so much competition and raw talent, especially here in New York, I was genuinely surprised that I was voted the best. That win – that show – opened a lot of doors and opportunities for me and I'm grateful to Mike Todd and everyone at Get Out Magazine for that experience. And of course everyone who voted for me!

That show turned plenty of heads. Can you describe that for me?
It's the largest venue I've played so far, what was then called the XL Night Club. It was the night of the Get Out Magazine awards show. I had a team of six backup dancers, quite an elaborate video backdrop, military costumes and choreographed dancing. I am very proud of that performance.

[See Eric Alán's article in Get Out Mag here.]

Do you know that more than 20,000 people have watched your videos on YouTube, alone? That's not counting your official website and everywhere else your music is available.
Oh, wow! No, I didn't. Honestly, I put the material out there and do check randomly, but 20,000 … Yaaay! (LOL.)

But now everyone's talking about your new video, “My Favorite Sin.”
Yeah, I think I just wrapped on my largest project to date. They seem to keep getting bigger and more extravagant. The video for “My Favorite Sin” was a three-day shoot, lots of extras, scenes, sets, a lot of rehearsals, etc. It was a lot of fun, but also a lot of work. I had an amazing team to work with so that made things a lot easier.

What's the song about?
Everything is a fight or struggle at some point or another. The ultimate fight or struggle is the one within. “My Favorite Sin” deals with my own fights and desire to overcome.

How did you represent that in the video?
Based on the theme of the song, I wanted a boxing/fighting motif. The director, Mikhail Torich, was able to take my vision and bring it to life.

Seeing as how you were voted #1 in Get Out Mag, what role does your status as a member of the LGBT community play in your music?
I don't think that being LGBT or gay has anything to do with my music. My music is just a part of me, so inherently, gay themes, images and such are part of my work.

What's your live show like, for people who haven't seen you before?
When I set out to do a live show, I genuinely try to do my best to entertain people, put on a number that I would like to see. I always have dancers, some kind of planned costume/look and depending on the venue, a video backdrop or some other kind of visual.

Where can people see you next?
My next live show is actually something fun for me. I will be singing the song “Fever” by Madonna at the annual Madonna Worship at the Stonewall Inn [Aug. 15, 2015]. I'm really excited about that one as Madonna is one of my heroes.

Your "My Favorite Sin" single and music video deals with the inner struggle. What gives you, personally, the power to overcome?
I think at the core of it all, I refuse to let obstacles take me down; at least not without a solid fight. Failure is not an option for me. It simply does not exist. I may not be the best at everything I do, but I won't quit. Giving up to me is failure. There are many times I've wanted to give up on different aspects of my life but I didn't, and I'm glad I didn't. It was worth the scars.

What are your fans like?
My 'fans?' LOL. I don't think of anyone as a 'fan.' In my head they are more like friends who appreciate my work as an artist.

Everyone has been overwhelmingly supportive from the start. It's very interesting to me to see how they react to different aspects of what I do; I am able to see my own work through their eyes or point of view. People connect on different levels. I also love to see when my idea or concept comes across loud and clear. As an artist in any media, you are making a statement, but will the statement be understood? It's gratifying to know when it is.

How have your fans reacted to your recent popularity?
You mean my friends, LOL. They are very honest! They tell you things that you yourself don't see, good and bad. Overall, they have been very positive. This last video seems to have resonated a little bit of a wow factor as it's very cinematic. I have Mikhail Torich and his amazing team to thank for that.

Is there an artist you'd like to open for perhaps more than any other? Why?
I think in more of the terms as who I would like to open for me in the future! <wink>

Your music is, of course, the biggest draw for fans of Eric Alán. What's your creative process like? Do you work closely with any producers or instrumentalists to get your sound just right?
As far as music goes, inspiration and creativity can come from anywhere. There is usually a seed of an idea that everything grows from. A lot can happen in the process of creating music or a song. At the end you have exactly what you set out for – or something totally different and perhaps even better than you initially intended.

My last two singles have been produced with Anthony Fletcher. He is very talented and gets me and the vibe I want in the music.

Are there any other genres of music you might see yourself performing one day?
I absolutely love the passion of salsa – in the music, singing and dancing. I would like very much to record a salsa track in the future. There is a Latin flare to most of my work, but it's most evident in "Where Are You Now" that was released along with "My Favorite Sin."

What has been the most rewarding part of your music career so far? What are you most proud of?
It's difficult to single out just one thing as it's all very multifaceted. I would have to say that I am most proud of actually doing what I said I wanted to do. Maybe it's a personal victory, but I still did it. A lot of people talk the talk but when it comes down to the nitty gritty, they simply don't walk the walk. I did and I am very proud of that.

Do you have anything to tell your fans?
Thank you. A very heartfelt, thank you.

See the new “My Favorite Sin” music video from Eric Alán here. The official single is available from iTunes in seven editions, including the definitive version and six remixes, and has been released with a bonus B-side track, “Where Are You Now.” Visit Eric Alán at his official website and be sure not to miss him onstage at NYC's famous Stonewall Inn on Aug. 15, 2015.

Jermaine Dolly releases modern gospel single 'You'

The remarkable voice of modern gospel known as Jermaine Dolly has released his landmark new single simply titled, “You.” The track has been published on the By Any Means Necessary Music independent record label. It has been celebrated nationwide as a unique and highly stylized sound that is a refreshingly new addition to the gospel repertoire around the world. Blending elements of soul, R 'n' B, pop and gospel music with creative innovations all its own, “You” is a contemporary Christian single that has already put Jermaine Dolly on the map once and for all.

Jermaine Dolly (sometimes called “Mr. Hello Dolly”) cites as main artistic influences Donny Hathaway, Tye Tribbett, Timberland, and Daryl Coley. These do not lend themselves to an approximation of Dolly's own sound and style on “You,” however, which must be heard to be imagined.

Dolly's composition of the song allows for a great deal of space between beats, notes and instrumentation, making his vocal performance the star of the show for the largest part of the track. His singing is a characteristic falsetto that is reminiscent of Prince without sounding the least bit derivative. His vocals are arresting and undeniably fun, and his delivery of these verses is easily as striking. Once Dolly has conquered the listener and purely demonstrated what he is all about, his band comes in to fill the aforementioned space, and these top-shelf instrumentalists do so with class, with groove, and with a metric ton of soul.

No description of the Jermaine Dolly experience can be without a mention of the singer's faith, however, around which the entirety of his music revolves. Having gotten his start in music as a backup vocalist for gospel star Tye Tribbett, Dolly is likewise an outspoken Christian performer, with God being the “You” to which his single refers.

Asked to describe the theme of his new song, Dolly writes that it is “Putting God first and drawing listeners to Jesus Christ.”

Even when taking credit for writing his own music, Dolly notes that while his songs are originals penned by himself, they remain nonetheless “inspired by the Holy Spirit.”

Jermaine Dolly has performed all over the world with Tye Tribbett, including a performance for the BET'S Celebration of Gospel, and appears on Tribbett's Grammy-Award-winning album, “Greater Than.” Performing now as a solo act, Dolly continues to sell out venues all over the United States. Working now with Tribbett's “Same God” producer, Jeremy Wheatbread Boyd, some music critics have suggested that Dolly will become one of the most celebrated gospel artists of this generation.

“You” by Jermaine Dolly is available online worldwide.

Rock project A-Frame releases 'A-Frame' LP album

The rock project known as A-Frame have released their eponymous LP record, “A-Frame.” The record includes 13 original tracks for an approximate total listening time approaching one hour. It has been proudly published on the Nonya Entertainment independent music label without the involvement of the corporate music industry. Rolling like thunder, roaring with intensity and exceptionally well written, composed and performed, “A-Frame” is both the definitive A-Frame release and a comprehensive introduction to this startling rock crew from Arizona.

Asked to cite some artistic influences, A-Frame mention Korn, Volbeat, Queensryche, Fall Out Boy, and Young and the Giants, in that order. Elements of Korn and Queensryche shine through A-Frame's own individualistic style, which blends the bleakness of post-grunge with the expert playing and songwriting of progressive metal groups such as Dream Theater and Vanden Plas.

“A-Frame”'s self-titled LP is not genre-specific, however. Instead, it showcases the elastic songwriting and broad instrumental capabilities of the band members by freely moving throughout the spectrum of modern alternative rock music.

Also notable is A-Frame's vocal duality. Having a dedicated primary singer but also a second who often performs as lead vocalist allows the group to explore themselves in largely different overtones. These modal shifts compliment one another better than the music fan might think probable, adding texture and agility to a sonic character that is already eye-openingly unique.

The short history of the band and the long list of its members' accolades are also worth considering.

A-Frame started with Tommy Gibbons of Phoenix, AZ. Since the age of 13, Gibbons has been racking up titles, including Guitar Center Guitargeddon Best West Region Guitarist of 2003 and 2004, Phoenix College Louis Armstrong Jazz best soloist award 2012, and LA Music Awards Best Rock Guitarist of 2014. A sort of Renaissance man of rock, Gibbons is also proficient at bass, drums, banjo, violin/fiddle and other instruments. He maintains his industry-grade music studio, Kompound Studios, in Litchfield Park, AZ, where he works as a professional producer and sound engineer. Gibbons has been sponsored by companies such as KRANK Amps, Tsunami Cables, Swiss picks, Schecter guitars, Miktek Mics, Coldcock Whiskey, Dirtbag Clothing and Larson acoustic guitars.

The first addition to the band came in the form of Scott Benedict, who was introduced to Gibbons by manager Crystal Nonya. Nonya describes Benedict at the time as, “unbelievably talented yet undiscovered,” in A-Frame's current official bio. Slated at first to sing just a single track, Benedict was quickly asked to join on a more permanent basis and in a larger role.

The trio of Gibbons, Benedict and Nonya make up the tripartite “A” frame (like the hiking gear) from which the group takes their name.

Gibbons and Benedict wrote the first 13 tracks in A-Frame's repertoire and had them recorded, mastered and otherwise finished in a process that took four months from concept to completion.

10-year bass guitar vet Zane Storto followed, selected by A-Frame for “his stunning abilities, excellent work ethic and the great attitude he displayed during his auditions.” Storto replaced the bass tracks on their album with his own highly stylized playing and in this way became braided into the A-Frame sound.

Drummer Zack Sewell of Phoenix, AZ, has been called “an extremely talented and hugely sought-out beat keeper within the Phoenix area,” and is an explosive addition to an already highly volatile rock band.

“A-Frame” by A-Frame is available online worldwide.

German musician Uwe Grunwald releases new trance single 'Personal Devil'

The writer and producer of music known as Uwe Grunwald has released his latest trance single, “Personal Devil.” The track has been proudly published as an independent release outside the influence of the corporate music industry. Upbeat, spacious, catchy, dance-inspiring and faithfully composed in the original trance-music tradition, “Personal Devil” by Uwe Grunwald is a surprise treat from one of Europe's most tasteful composers of digital music today.

Uwe Grunwald, when asked to name his musical influences, says simply that he likes “all kinds of music – except mainstream.”

Accordingly, he makes music which has its roots in the European underground scene of the early 1990s: trance.

“I am used to making music since I was a child,” writes Grunwald. “I played a lot of instruments over the years … but now I am interested in electronic music.”

That he has only recently come to publish electronic music is surprising. His “Remember the Past” EP (which has not been officially declared except as an offering on his SoundCloud page) consists of five singles, one of which is “Personal Devil,” its closing track. “Personal Devil” and Grunwald's other hit, “Hard Times,” each sport over 1,000 plays on SoundCloud alone – a striking accomplishment considering these songs have only been available for listening for two months.

Uwe Grunwald describes his music as, “very mystic and dark,” noting also that all of his songs, “contain real stories of my personal life.”

Music by Grunwald certainly has a shadowy timbre and a subtle intensity which builds and recedes, then builds and recedes again, like an ocean tide with strong emotional undercurrents. It is also masculine and adventurous music, however, music which assures, encourages and invigorates. These high-energy attributes make it excellent music for solo listening through earbuds or headphones, as well as perfect ammunition for the expert nightclub DJ.

All in all, “Personal Devil” by Uwe Grunwald is a standout example that the truest, purest spirit of electronic music is very much alive in the world, evidence which can be heard everywhere there's a computer with a modem and some speakers, right now.

“Personal Devil” by Uwe Grunwald is available online worldwide. Get in early, fans of trance music. Stuff like this doesn't come out every day.

TP3 release new hip-hop single 'F--k Off a Check'

The crew responsible for some of the most powerful hip-hop tracks of the year known as TP3 have released their latest single, “F--k Off a Check.” The track features the talents of popular stars of the underground scene, Sean Dough, Stixx 1000, and SlowBoogey. The track has been proudly published on the TP3Ent. independent record label, also sometimes billed longhand as Tripple 3reatt Entertainment.

Featuring high-octane lines, an uptempo back beat and some of the best songwriting today has to offer, “F--k Off a Check” is just the latest proof that TP3 is one of the most intriguing rap labels operating in America today.

TP3's Sean Dough, Stixx 1000, and SlowBoogey cite as main music influences Rakim, Lil' Wayne, Prince, Michael Jackson, and Jay-Z. That said, their sound, style and overall production on “F--k Off a Check” combine for a listening experience that is wholly new and refreshingly unique.

While this top-shelf quality might seem hard to believe, longtime fans of TP3 have come to expect this sort of groundbreaking performance and production from the rap label who subtitle their official website as the “Home of Austin's Best HipHop” (link provided below). After all, these are the artists responsible for such local and international indie hits as “Change,” “Comin Down,” “Gimme a Reason,” and “Champion.” Fans of hip hop who've not seen the official “Change” video from TP3 are especially encouraged to do so.

Asked to describe the themes of their latest single, “F--k Off a Check,” TP3 write – “We only get one life. It's OK to enjoy yourself and have fun.”

The startling excellence of “F--k Off a Check” is also partially due to the spectacular production work of June James of Hit Cartel fame, as well as to the involvement of Rudy Jones from Brownstown Music, whose hand in independent hip hop has become almost supernatural in recent years.

“F--k Off a Check” has been released in four versions: a definitive version, a radio edit, an instrumental, and even an acapella.

TP3's current official bio describes TP3 as founded in 2006 by Sean Harris (AKA Sean Dough) and Marquez Anderson (Stixx 1000), joined also by Paul “SlowBoogey” Washington and Andre “CoolDre” Owens. The rap quartet have seen stupendous growth in popularity and repertoire over the last few months, a trend that is expected to continue throughout the decade.

Hip-hop producer Maja 7th releases new LP record 'Get Familiar'

The producer of hip-hop music from Indiana known as Maja 7th has released his latest official LP record, “Get Familiar.” The full-length album comprises 14 original tracks for an approximate listening time of a full hour. Widely varied, absolutely packed with back beats and bass, and showcasing some of the best rappers and urban poets from the American Midwest, “Get Familiar” from Maja 7th is one of the best reasons for fans of rap music to acquaint themselves with this secret legend of the hip-hop studio now.

Another of excellent reason is the bevy of distinguished performers assembled by Maja 7th for “Get Familiar.” In addition to his own already considerable skills, the new LP features the talents of such popular artists of the hip-hop underground as (in order of appearance) Freddie Gibbs, Mikkey Halstead, Ill Brown, Waterr, Bubby B & $auce, Starrs & Murph, Re@l Talk, Sulaiman, Vic Spencer, Simeon, Mathien, Griffen, KYM, L.E.P. Bogus Boys, Pill, Scheme, Add-2, Mike Schpitz, Neak, Dave Coresh, and Dominique LaRue.

Maja 7th himself cites as artistic influences Outkast, the Wu-Tang Clan, Nas, Scarface and Common.

“I think Organized Noize is absolutely brilliant, too,” notes the producer. “They have influenced me a lot.”

Maja 7th started in hip hop at his home digital audio workstation as an independent music artist. His new “Get Familiar” LP keeps this tradition by being likewise published outside the control of the corporate music industry. This allows him leeway to exercise his palpably unique style, which derives much of its kaleidoscopic groove from greats in other genres, such as B.B. King, Al Green and James Brown. He credits his mother for his passion for jazz, too, the creative textures of which find their way into many of the best tracks on “Get Familiar.”

Speaking of the record's perfectly apropos title and overall theme, Maja 7th writes that the record is “really just to get people familiar with who I am. I wanted to highlight some of the things I've done to get to this point and also release some new material.”

Maja 7th's direct manner of communication, smoothed by humility and heaps of IQ, is indicative of the general tone of “Get Familiar.” The record stands out for its straight-up speech, unstoppable flow, and a whole lot of class.

“New people I meet always ask me, 'What have you done?'” writes Maja 7th. “So I thought it would be a good idea to show them.”

Maja 7th was a key producer for Wu-Tang affiliate Killah Priest's “Almighty: Original S.I.N.” album, which featured M-Eighty, Bronze Nazereth, Son One, C-Rayz Walz, and 5 Star. His first solo project is still highly acclaimed: “The Breakout,” a record which helped bring to the public eye many of Chicago's best-loved underground rappers of today. These include Freddie Gibbs, Mikkey Halsted, Pill, the L.E.P Bogus Boys, GLC, YP and others, many of whom appear also on this latest release of “Get Familiar.” Maja 7th's official music video for “On My Own,” featuring Freddie Gibbs and Mikkey Halsted, appeared on MTV JAMS in 2010.

Tokyo band the Pale Brood release new EP record 'Like Mother Like Brood'

The eclectic rock group from Tokyo known as the Pale Brood have released their latest EP record, “Like Mother Like Brood.” Very nearly a full-length album, the EP consists of eight original tracks for an approximate total listening time of half an hour. It has been proudly published as an independent release without the support of the corporate music industry. Part pop, part folk, part bluegrass and rooted in the music traditions of Ireland, “Like Mother Like Brood” is a record unlike any other in a world which makes standing out a staggering achievement by any standard.

The first hearing of the Pale Brood's “Like Mother Like Brood” yields a record with a surprising amount of variety and versatility. The band cites such influences as the Pogues, New Order, U2, the La's, Lou Reed, Oasis, Crowded House, INXS, the Police, and Midnight Oil.

Sonic elements of each may be discerned in the Pale Brood's new EP, and they have the surprising ability to blend these disparate styles into a warm and consistent whole. What is more, this whole is not only catchy, groovy, fun, and sometimes even touching, but actually all of these things in equal measure from start to finish.

Part of the upbeat vibrancy of their EP stems from the band's general modus operandi. Asked to comment on the theme of their new album, the Pale Brood write, “We always play for enjoyment and remember that the music we create always has the ability to affect people in a positive way.”

This is, in fact, the emotional effect of the record. It's not possible to hear it and not feel a little happier in general. This makes the extended-play album totally accessible to music fans of every genre.

The Pale Brood's current official bio describes them as having formed in Tokyo, Japan, in 2007. They began by performing traditional Irish music and favorite songs by the Pogues, and quickly expanded their repertoire to include originals. Their tone is larger and fuller than one expects from a band based on acoustic instrumentation, evidence of the talent and tasteful playing of their members, Owen Cooney, Richard Johns, Andrew Shive, Shogo Taniguchi, and Chris Young.

'God’s Not Dead' film actress releases pop EP

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

CONTACT:
Patrick Hess
Ph: 260.582.4700

New Orleans, LA – Aug. 7, 2015

15-year-old TV and film actress Abigail Duhon has released a new EP record, “More Than Gold.” The EP features three tracks from her upcoming full album, “I’m Living Life,” expected Jan. 2016. Her EP album includes its eponymous single, “More Than Gold,” from the official soundtrack for the feature film, “Caged No More.” The film explores the grim realities of human trafficking and will debut Jan. 22, 2016. Abigail Duhon's “More Than Gold” pop-music EP becomes available online worldwide beginning Aug. 14, 2016.

Produced by Dove and Grammy winner Chuck Butler, the EP features three tracks with a bonus remix. Co-written by Duhon and Butler, her sophomore-release album provides a fun and edgy pop vibe which matches the actress’ personality.

“I wanted to write music that I know teens will listen to but also have a message in each song that shares my faith and views of how cool it is to be a Christian,” says Duhon.

Touring throughout the 2015 summer at various Christian Music Festivals, Duhon has performed for tens of thousands of fans since April in Louisiana, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Washington and Tennessee. She is currently performing music from her upcoming LP album, including those on the “More Than Gold” EP.

Duhon appears in the film “Caged No More” as one of the captured teen girls who are being sold into modern-day slavery. The topic is highly sensitive but not well discussed in the general public. The alarming rate of young children being kidnapped and sold into slavery in America alone motivated Duhon to want to participate in a film that brings about awareness.

“My song, 'More Than Gold,' was written to tell these young girls that they shouldn’t define their worth based on the horrible experience they had being captured and sold,” she explained. “I’m hoping it makes an impact to bring attention to this evil that exists and help it stop.”

Duhon also appeared in the most successful Christian film of all time, “God’s Not Dead” (2014). She will return to the big screen in 2016 in films such as “Camp Cool Kids” and “I’m Not Ashamed” (The Columbine High School Shooting Story) as well as the anxiously awaited “God's Not Dead 2,” premiering Easter 2016. She will continue touring for the remainder of 2015 with the Millennial Tour, along with other young Christian artists.

Rhythmic, pulsing, and full of the passion and heat of the genuine ritmo Latino, “Oye” from Ronny & Blanko is a modern dance-floor win that belongs in every DJ's play list around the world.

Ronny Roque Roche and Marlon “Blanko” Carril are Cuban singers and songwriters who expatriated to Florida at a young age. There, they learned very quickly that their mutual love of music would take them to new heights.

“We started making music together when we were 16 years old,” they write. “We used to record in our bedrooms because we didn't have a studio to record at. Now, thanks to consistency we have developed as a team and are focused on bringing our music to the world.”

Ronny & Blanko (also sometimes billed as RonnieBlanko or Ronny, Blanko) work days as barbers before going home and hitting the mic.
