The songwriter and producer of hip-hop music known as Josh One has released his latest official single, “Sacrifice.” It has been proudly published as an independent release without the involvement of the corporate music industry on the Boomnote Music record label. Sharply clever, socially aware, and backed by undeniable back beats, “Sacrifice” once again proves Josh One to be a legitimate legend of mixology and showcases Demetrius Rhymes and Aloe Blacc as two heavy-hitting masters of the mic.

Long Beach's Josh One cites as main artistic influences Dr. Dre, A Tribe Called Quest, Portishead, the Beatles, and Sade. Asked to describe the context of “Sacrifice,” Josh One writes, “To kickstart a new album and revamp my [Boomnote] label. I wanted to make a big song that has my good friend and frequent collaborator Demetrius tell a real story that is uplifting to anyone going for their dreams. I’ve known Aloe for 20+ years and he wrote a hook to tie it all in, and he just made it all come together.”

David R Villegas releases new piano album 'Look Deeper'

 

The songwriter and producer of piano music known as David R Villegas has released his latest official album, “Look Deeper.” It contains 11 original David R Villegas tracks for an approximate total listening time of 40 mins. Like previous drops from the artist, it has been proudly published as an independent release without the involvement of the corporate music industry. Elegant, textured and sonically colorful, “Look Deeper” brings David R Villegas to fans new and old in a new, yet familiar light which will delight any fan of contemporary instrumental piano.

Virginia's David R Villegas has cited as main artistic influences Yanni, Hans Zimmer, Jean Michel Blais, or “any good film composer,” he says. “But I also get a lot from artists such as Billy Joel, Elton John and Coldplay's Chris Martin.”

With an emphasis on emotional evocation, sweeping arcs and layers of instrumentation, “Look Deeper” by David R Villegas has a little something for every fan of instrumental music.

Asked to describe the overall theme of “Look Deeper,” David R Villegas writes, “This album was conceived completely extemporaneously and in the moment. I sat at the piano, hit record, and played to a moment or emotion. Several of the songs on this album are inspired by a several-year journey discovering my familial past.”

While Villegas enjoys exploring moods and methods of other keyboardists, ultimately he's his own man and does things his own way.

“I write all of my own music,” he says of this. “But I do cover one song in this album called 'Black Sun,' which is a variation on a theme from 2013's 'Star Trek' written by Michael Giacchino.”

Seeing how Villegas came into music, it's not surprising he took it to the lengths he's come.

“Fortunately for me growing up,” he writes, “we had a piano in the house. I would play it regularly and teach myself to find melodies and harmony that I enjoyed. I learned to combine emotion with musical structure. My technical side came purely from vocal training.”
