David R Villegas releases new piano album 'Look Deeper'

The songwriter and producer of piano music known as David R Villegas has released his latest official album, “Look Deeper.” It contains 11 original David R Villegas tracks for an approximate total listening time of 40 mins. Like previous drops from the artist, it has been proudly published as an independent release without the involvement of the corporate music industry. Elegant, textured and sonically colorful, “Look Deeper” brings David R Villegas to fans new and old in a new, yet familiar light which will delight any fan of contemporary instrumental piano.

Virginia's David R Villegas has cited as main artistic influences Yanni, Hans Zimmer, Jean Michel Blais, or “any good film composer,” he says. “But I also get a lot from artists such as Billy Joel, Elton John and Coldplay's Chris Martin.”

With an emphasis on emotional evocation, sweeping arcs and layers of instrumentation, “Look Deeper” by David R Villegas has a little something for every fan of instrumental music.

Asked to describe the overall theme of “Look Deeper,” David R Villegas writes, “This album was conceived completely extemporaneously and in the moment. I sat at the piano, hit record, and played to a moment or emotion. Several of the songs on this album are inspired by a several-year journey discovering my familial past.

While Villegas enjoys exploring moods and methods of other keyboardists, ultimately he's his own man and does things his own way.

I write all of my own music,” he says of this. “But I do cover one song in this album called 'Black Sun,' which is a variation on a theme from 2013's 'Star Trek' written by Michael Giacchino.”

Seeing how Villegas came into music, it's not surprising he took it to the lengths he's come.

Fortunately for me growing up,” he writes, “we had a piano in the house. I would play it regularly and teach myself to find melodies and harmony that I enjoyed. I learned to combine emotion with musical structure. My technical side came purely from vocal training.”

Look Deeper” by David R Villegas is available from quality digital music stores online worldwide now. Get in early, piano fans.

Alt-rockers Dragon and Berr release fifth studio album 'Something Wrong with Those Two'

ATLANTA, Ga., 2022-Jan-31 — /Indie Music News Network/ —

Alt-rock “hobbyists” Dragon and Berr have dropped another LP album, “Something Wrong with Those Two,” bringing their official repertoire to a total of five full-length records and signalling that while D&B insist they're only having fun, it's probably time for music fans to treat them like the legitimate recording artists they have clearly become. One single from the record, “Demons in the Dark,” has been released with an official music video [link provided below].

Like previous releases “She's So Shui” and “Existential” (2021 and 2020 respectively), “Something Wrong with Those Two” has been published as an independent release without the involvement of the corporate music industry. Also like their other LPs, “Something Wrong with Those Two” spans several genres as Dragon and Berr explore their sonic interests and prove they've picked up some new tricks. Fun, highly textured and without a shred of apology to the professional music superculture, “Something Wrong with Those Two” showcases in spades obviously well-practiced studio chops and the best guitar and percussion work Dragon and Berr have displayed to-date.

Georgia's Dragon and Berr have cited as main influences for “Something Wrong with Those Two” the Beatles, Fall Out Boy, Hall & Oates, and Styx, but comparisons can also be drawn to the punk-rock and industrial music subcultures, as well as nineties alt rock in general. Primus and Metallica sounds appear here and there, as well as hints of Arma Angelus. But trying to pigeonhole music by Dragon and Berr is a fool's errand, seeing as how they purposefully zig when expected to zag, and delight in surprising fans with a new direction nobody expects them to take.

“We go over the mountain and to the other side with this one,” writes Dragon of their new album and its themes. “Of course you tend to dig into some things that are very much part of us, take a look at our hearts and souls, events that may have went through creative twists to be placed in songs.”

And what about their cherished “hobbyist” moniker?

“We love music and making songs,” Dragon says for the both of them. “We are having fun — and just don't want it to stop being fun … It sounds odd really, but for all the learning and interaction with other bands and recording artists, I am almost afraid to overlearn. I don't want to lose our DIY hobbyist style that makes us us.”

And that's partly why music fans owe it to themselves to start taking these friends of the form as seriously as any other indie music group. This sound comes straight from their souls.

Dragon and Berr are Edwin and Donna Millheim, a self-described “husband-and-wife American pop-punk, metal-punk, grunge-punk, country-punk, rock band from Georgia. They are off-the-wall creatives who met much earlier in 1986 in a gaming arcade.”

by Dragon and Berr is available from over 600 quality digital music stores online worldwide now. Get in early, independent rock fans.

Frederic Bernard, PianoPassion release new single 'A Murderous Romance'

FREIBURG, Germany, 2021-Dec-03 — /Indie Music News Network/ —

The composer, pianist and arranger Frederic Bernard (AKA PianoPassion) has released his latest major single, “A Murderous Romance.” Gentle, shadowy, and bearing hints of treachery and diversified human drama – though with the pinnacle of keeping a classical essence. “A Murderous Romance” showcases PianoPassion's admirement for musical storytelling without lyrics, but also strongly emphases his craft in classical music writing. In addition to the considerable talents of PianoPassion, himself, “A Murderous Romance” also boasts ethereal cello work by Steven Schumann.

"I always have the goal of getting the final master as organic as possible,” says Bernard. “I love to get live musicians involved whenever I can.”

Frederic Bernard cites as main artistic influences for his new single Camille Saint-Saens' “The Swan,” as well as other chamber pieces of the late Romantic Era, which also includes the work of Joe Hisaishi and John Williams, particularly the score for “Seven Years in Tibet.” With an emphasis on morbid delicacy, startling insinuation and bare-bones phrasing, “A Murderous Romance” by PianoPassion might be both an instant classic as well as a modern outlay of a 19th-century work for "modern ears."

Asked to describe the overall theme of “A Murderous Romance,” PianoPassion writes:

It might sound cliché, but for me it is a declaration of love to music — chamber music, to be precise ... Bittersweetness, deep passion, but also a hint of sorrow and darkness. I think it is the mixture of romantic and very serious momentums, which makes this piece of music so powerful.”

Frederic Bernard is largely known for his viral hit “Underwater Wonderscapes” (aka “Swarm of Fish”), which reached TikTok's Intl. Top-60 chart. This music originated from the third entry of his “Piano Stories” series, mostly an outlay of solo piano albums in their purest and original form. The series will receive its latest release "Piano Stories VI: Tears and Sadness Pt. 2" before 2022. In addition to his ventures into independent classically-inspired piano releases, the University of Freiburg -trained Bernard has had his work performed with lush orchestras in Budapest and Moscow. Companies featuring his pieces include Sony, Intel, LG, Canon, Doritos, Sixt, Virgin Galactics, AXA, Time Inc., BBC, Discovery Channel, National Geographic, and many more. Bernard has collaborated with such notables as YouTube sensation Rudy Mancuso, K-Pop idol Cho Kyuhyun, and famed Jewish singer Benny Friedman. His scores also appear in a broad variety of feature films.

Asked if he had any message for his fans, Bernard states, “I hope the listeners can hear the title in the music and can absorb the passion we've put into this release.”

Wolf Camp releases debut album 'Folklore'

The songwriter and producer of rap and hip-hop music known as Wolf Camp has released his official debut album, “Folklore.” It contains seven original Wolf Camp tracks for an approximate total listening time of half an hour. It includes his popular single, “The City,” which dropped winter 2020. Like the single, “Folklore” has been proudly published as an independent release without the involvement of the corporate music industry. Dark, smooth, and bringing some of the best urban poetry from the artist yet, “Folklore” proves Wolf Camp can bring high-impact hooks and rhymes across an entire record and solidifies him as one of Ohio's most interesting rappers on the mic today.

Cincinatti's Wolf Camp has cited as main artistic influences the East Coast scene of the early '90s, Southern rap, and a few select West Coast artists. The result is a clutch of tracks based largely on lines and beats with sparse, effective melodies and the additional talents of skilled musicians like Lauren Eylise and Adam Pleimen. Fans of the old school will find much to appreciate in “Folklore” and few reasons to complain.

Asked to describe the overall theme of “Folklore,” Wolf Camp says that “Hip hop is still alive.” He also expresses several directives for his audience in six short words with the kind of brevity which gives “Folklore” much of its power:

Think, grow, beware and enjoy life.”

Another key ingredient is Camp's use of hip hop's ability to use more aspects of music than most other genres.

What I've always loved about rap music,” writes Wolf Camp, “is the endless possibilities of expression. You take rock, country, classical, heavy metal etc... and make it a dope song.”

Camp previously discussed the album's single, “The City,” as being his own “unique take on the City” inspired largely by Stevie Wonder's own popular single, “Living for the City.” Camp said of the track when it dropped last December:

It's about the City at both ends of society, high and low. There are good times you can have in the City — but there's also a harsh reality in the streets.”

He also said he styled his sound on “The City” so audiences would come away feeling “that they just heard something fresh and original that resonates with them on some level.”

The artist's current official bio reads:

Wolf Camp, born Ralph Camp, is a hip-hop artist from Cincinnati, Ohio. His smooth delivery of double entendres blend with lyrical criticism paints vivid pictures. Wolf Camp spent several years with a local Cincinnati rap group before going solo.

Synthpop favorite Vaughty releases official video 'Bottle'

Prominent synthpop scene favorite Vaughty has dropped his latest official single and video, “Bottle.” The track takes Vaughty's sound to new heights of intensity while the video explores new depths of profundity. The UK's synth mogul has previously proven himself capable of studio-level production and major-label audience reach, yet “Bottle” showcases Vaughty's video chops in a similarly striking light arguably for the first time.

Bottle” is the second single from Vaughty's imminent “Dark Society” album slated for Q1 2022. Vaughty indie label Aggro Monkey Records says the Orwellian LP will deal with “the shadowy elements of humanity, the negative effects of technology, and the like.”

Much can be said of the songwriting and execution of “Bottle” both in and out of the studio, but longtime fans of Vaughty used to his dependable taste and high sonic standards may find themselves taken aback by the visual showmanship exhibited in this present release.

Taken together with the theatrical prelude, the video tops out around the seven-minute mark, making it the new centerpiece of Vaughty's decade-long catalog. It features several easter eggs for fans of Vaughty and fans of synthpop alike, such as the standout appearance of Depeche Mode photographer Brian Griffin, and a momentary shot of DM keyboardist Alan Wilder being called on Vaughty's cell.

In addition to the considerable talents of Vaughty, himself, “Bottle” also features production work from Andy Marlow (Marc Almond, Tracey Ullman) and Kevin Paul (Depeche Mode, Nick Cave, Sr. Mix Engineer Mute Records), as well as the visual artistry of director Szenasi Akos.

Born Vaughn Eunson in South Africa, today Vaughty writes, records, produces and lives in London as he has for twenty-some years. He also runs the popular Vaughn George synth music YouTube channel which has become a global hub of synth and piano enthusiasts, experts, teachers, students and professional musicians over the last five years. It boasts many remarkable interviews with legendary record producers, musicians and artists in general, and currently services circa 21,000 subscribers.

I want to thank my loyal fans for supporting me throughout the years and I can promise you that 'Dark Society'' is going to be Vaughty as you've never heard him before,” Vaughty says. “I am very excited about this album — I feel that this album best represents who I am as an artist as well as my personal music taste.”

Bottle” by Vaughty on the Aggro Monkey Records label is available from quality digital music stores online worldwide now. Get in early, synthpop fans. Very early.

Funk and R&B veteran Barry Wilkins releases second 2021 single 'Do It Like This'

Funk and R&B veteran Barry Wilkins has dropped his second official single for 2021, “Do It Like This.” Like his surprise drop of popular single “202” which startled the funk community last spring, “Do It Like This” has been proudly published as an independent release recorded, mixed, and produced at his own B. Creative Imagery Design and Recording Studio (link provided below). Featuring the classic funk and R&B sound which can never be imitated, “Do It Like This” proves Barry Wilkins has much more in store for fans than just a comeback single.

Tyrone, Georgia's Barry Wilkins can make funk the way it's supposed to be done because he has roots playing in legitimate Stax Records artists such as Art Jerry Miller, the Mad-Lads, and the Bar-Kays. He has cited as influences Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Hazel, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Prince, as well as the legendary Funkadelics and Earth, Wind and Fire, with whom he shares many sonic traits.

'Do It Like This' is a funky groove that is relaxed and in the pocket,” says Wilkins of the new track. “By that I mean the tempo creates the relaxed groove, and pushing the '1' keeps it in the pocket.”

As fanatics of funk know, “The 1” refers to James Brown's steadfast principle that funk music be concretely founded on the first beat of each measure of a song. It's a bulletproof way to ensure a track has a tight danceability from start to finish. “Do It Like This” has more than that, though. It's also built on an irresistible hook.

“The original guitar line felt good and made it easy to build around it,” Wilkins says. “I love energy and dynamics and even at that tempo, I was able to lift the song up.”

Lifting songs up, and lifting people up with songs, too, are activities with which Barry Wilkins is all too familiar.

I want the feeling and groove of the track to strike a nerve,” he writes. “'Do It Like This' means to open your eyes and realize what gift you have been blessed with and 'Do It.' Express yourself. Just as an example, whether you play blues, funk, rock or classical guitar, reach to do the best and whatever is best for you.”

Asked to describe the overall theme of “Do It Like This,” Barry Wilkins writes:

There is no specific way to do something. You can reach your accomplishments in so many different ways and from so many different roads.”

Do It Like This” by Barry Wilkins is available from quality digital music stores online worldwide now. Get in early, funk and R&B music fans.

Gustavo De Beauville releases pivotal new album 'Second Sun'

Canadian prog rocker and audio surgeon Gustavo De Beauville has released his latest official album, “Second Sun.” It contains nine original Gustavo De Beauville tracks for a total listening time of an hour, and has been proudly published as an independent release without the involvement of the corporate music industry. Varied, kaleidoscopic, and bearing equal parts tone and octane, “Second Sun” is the latest evidence that Gustavo De Beauville doesn't just meet the standard — he helps make the standard.

Alberta's Gustavo De Beauville cites as main artistic influences Tool, '90s grunge, prog rock, instrumental rock and metal, the Re-Stoned, Earthless, Long Distance Calling, Tides from Nebula, Lost in Kiev, and “of special note: Yawning Man!” De Beauville himself has described his new almost-entirely instrumental record as “progressive rock with influences of stoner, grunge and desert.”

These descriptors may not be as crucial to the listener as usual, though, in light of what drove DB in writing and production of the music.

Asked to describe the overall theme of “Second Sun,” De Beauville writes, “This was a fun record to make. It was the first time I had deliberately not put any pressure or expectations on the music and attempted to make art for art's sake. It's a bunch of fun songs with no rigid genre guidelines to adhere to.”

Ironically, “Second Sun” works very well as an example of coherence with variation. It has an overall tone, none of the tracks sound misplaced, and there's even a thematic climax to the record which rises and falls like a good story should. And while there's no chance that's accidental, it still wasn't the point of the album.

At the time of writing the record,” De Beauville writes, “I was very involved in my day job working as an AV Technician and spearheading a command centre built at an airport. It was stressful, and I think the album was a pressure release valve I would turn to in my spare moments.”

So what were the themes, if any?

The main theme I embraced this time around was that of self-acceptance/realization,” says DB. “Life is finite. We oftentimes get so caught up chasing the dream that we forget to stop and appreciate the small things in life — family, health, nature, peace of mind, etc. Life is short. Don't waste it worrying about what other people think. Get out there and make something happen for yourself.”

De Beauville isn't talking in broad, general terms, necessarily, either. He knows his audience.

I suspect alot of listeners of this genre may be musicians themselves,” he writes. “There's no better time to start writing and recording yourself. All the tools are there and are extremely affordable. Don't let anyone make you feel inadequate because you use this or that — I've made an award-winning record with a Line 6 amp and a $150 dollar condenser microphone.”

What's more, he's actually willing to help on a personal level:

If you have specific questions about my process drop me a line.”

The official Gustavo De Beauville website (link provided below) describes him as “an OIART graduate” who “has focused his attention on composing original music for both film and video games. He began playing music in the 1990s in the Caribbean island nation of Barbados. He's since played in Trinidad and faraway Calgary where he opened for Helmet, but “all honesty I much prefer the controlled environment of my home studio. I'm more of an introvert, to be honest. I'll leave the live performance for the divas amongst us. Never say never though.”

He has other official releases with other bands, but calls them “irrelevant at this time. Right now is Second Sun's moment.”

I'd like to thank Otu from Finland, Serouj from Beirut and my good friend Andrew from Vancouver for lending their vocal talents to the record,” writes Gustavo De Beauville. “Also a quick nod to Ryan from Empire Music for being a good hype man in these dark times.

Thanks for the support — I'm currently focused on soundtracks and music assets for video games so if you're interested, you know where to find me [https://assetstore.unity.com/publishers/54832].

I’ve also started contributing articles on my composing setup to the popular stoner/doom site MonsterRiff.com. It’s a good way to help out the community and get folks started in recording. Big shout out to Pat!”

Second Sun” by Gustavo De Beauville is available from quality digital music stores online worldwide now. Get in early, prog-rock fans.

Cody and the Blackouts drop new album 'Living Asleep' 20 Oct. 2021

Extrapolation, n: An educated guess or hypothesis. To extrapolate is to use observations

about a current situation to make a prediction.

Extrapolationis not a word youd expect to find in a modern pop song, but there it is in the title track of the thoughtful and heartfelt debut album by Los Angeles band Cody And The Blackouts:

Present finally caught up to my past / Surprised my house of cards had been built to last / Extrapolation gift and a curse / It helps connect the dots but can make things worse” (Living Asleep).

Hes the lead singer and keys player in the band, but Cody Hudocks most striking asset is his songwriting. Notable LA music blog, Buzzbands.la, held up Hudocks work to any number of rock-Americana greats and piano-wielding popsmiths who can seize the moment with a single couplet owing to Hudocks often-cutting, always-earnest lyrics, the Blackouts come off as the band most likely to have put down their history textbooks long enough raise hell at the local bar.

A dab hand with a lyric, Hudock often takes a song title and runs with it, as in Im gonna crack the code / its just a matter of time” (Matter of Time), or All Im asking fors the last word” (The Last Word). Even the albums closing track, tender piano ballad Love Song To You, pre-empts its own chorus as Hudock vows to learn the vocab to say what I felt”.

There he goes, extrapolating again.

Cody Hudock was born into a family of songwriters. He learned the trade from his father and older brother, Jordan, who also plays keys on Living Asleep. After acquiring early performance experience playing keys in Jordans bands, Cody wrote and released 3 EPs between 2011 and 2015 under the moniker Cody The Band, and the ambitiously titled The Great American Album LP under his own name in 2016. The LP garnered some delirious word of mouth, with LA blog The 704 gushing, If there were an award for greatest living songwriter youve never heard of, then Cody Hudocks sterling solo effort would place him firmly in the running.

Rounding out the Blackouts are guitarist Jimmy Holman, drummer Brent Stranathan and bassist Will Weissman, with Joanna Hudock on backing vocals. Joanna shines on the country-tinged I Confess, a duet with husband Cody, And contributes celestial harmonies to the choruses of several other songs on the album.

Recorded at Hollywood studio Elephant In The Room, produced by Ethan Kaufmann (Avril Lavigne, Wild Party) and Brent Stranathan, and mixed by veteran Capitol Records engineer Chandler Harrod (John Mayer, Neil Young), Living Asleep captures the unique studio chemistry of Cody And The Blackouts like lightning in a bottle.

From the pop-cultural history lessons of opening track Time Stood Still (the bands head-turning 2020 debut single), through the pendulum swing of Matter of Time, to the hook-laden pop bauble Sister Sister, Living Asleep extrapolates an uncommon range and versatility. As for predictions, heed the title of the albums penultimate song: Somehow Ill Make Good. Believe it.
