The composer and producer of back beats
known as OJ's Beat Factory has released his latest LP album, “The
Original Beat Collection, Vol. 2.” The LP contains no fewer than 14
original OJ's Beat Factory tracks for an approximate total listening
time of 120 minutes. Like the rest of the ever-expanding OJBF
repertoire, it has been proudly published on the Yea Boi Productions
independent record label without the direction of the corporate music
industry. Varied, ingenious, and bringing the old-school sound into
the 21st century with unique, cutting-edge innovations,
“The Original Beat Collection, Vol. 2” is the newest reason for
fans of hip hop to pay attention to this beat alchemist from Chicago.
OJ's Beat Factory is OJ Sexton. OJ
cites as main artistic influences legends such as Prince, Stevie
Wonder, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, and Paul Hardcastle, as well as
contemporary titans like Khaled, Metro Boomin', DJ Mustard, and Kanye
West. Fans of 808s and 909s will not be disappointed. OJ has
described his inimitable blended style as New Groove music, a
category all his own.
“New groove is a blend of just about
everything!” writes OJ. “Honestly there's no other real way to
explain it in words. New groove combines genres that otherwise
wouldn't be caught dead on the same album while being able to form it
in a way that attracts mainstream appeal.”
This makes music from OJ's Beat Factory
attractive to music listeners of every genre. It also makes his music
useful for an array of purposes, such as back beats for radio, film,
or even video gaming.
Speaking of his new album, OJ Sexton
writes, “This album is the second issue of my best beats from the
past. I've been through so much in life, and all of those stories
come out in my music (even though this LP is nothing more than the
tip of the iceberg).”
This iceberg's tip narrates in
uncompromising terms the true emotions of a digital artist with a
vinyl soul and a rhythmic mind. Two tracks have particular
significance:
“Unapologetic” is OJ's first track
to be submitted to Internet radio. A pop song mixed with elements of
rock, trap, synthwave, and disco, it was composed with Rihanna in
mind. Also, “Buck Wild (In the Hood)” has been called “a
monster cut that's begging for vocals or a soundtrack feature.”
“By listening to this album and my
previous releases,” says OJ, “you'll not only learn my story but
possibly find the soundtrack to yours. There's a song of mine for
everyone, and, with this album, I want to create something anyone can
enjoy anytime. Just love God, love yourself, love one another, and
love music.”
OJ Sexton makes one final, crucial
note, however:
“I would also like to mention that
today is my mom's birthday and this record is, in addition to a
second collection of beats from the past, a birthday gift to her.”
Happy birthday, Cynthia!
