The songwriter, producer
and multi-instrumentalist of nu-metal known as Septimus Augustus has
released his latest official single, “Nail Through My Skull.” It
has been proudly published as an independent release without the
involvement of the corporate music industry on the American Values
record label. Raw, pared-down metal laced with thrash elements, “Nail
Through My Skull” showcases Septimus Augustus as one of the most
intriguing nu-metal artists of the year so far and promises that he
has plenty more where that came from.
Panamá's Septimus
Augustus cites as main artistic influences James Brown, AC/DC, soul
and funk groups from the '70s, salsa, reggae, and blues. The artist
notes, “It's all a melting pot.”
This melting pot is
perhaps nowhere as apparent as it is in his surprising inclusion of
hip hop in “Nail Through My Skull.” Septimus Augustus writes of
it, “That’s a very important element to the metal music that I
make. I incorporate hip hop as a main way of driving the point of the
song home.”

Commenting on the overall
meaning of “Nail Through My Skull,” Septimus Augustus says,
“'Nail Through My Skull' is a song about dealing with the
frustrations and struggles of life and being resilient even in the
worst of situations. As the line says, 'I’m not dead.' So as long
as one has life, one should have hope.”
Asked to describe his start in music, Septimus Augustus notes that he has been writing original music since the age of 11. Originally inspired by seeing James Brown live, Septimus Augustus later moved from Panamá to New York City where he started his first metal group. His current official bio says of this:

felt that he had finally found the music that could express all the
angst, anger, longing, struggles, corruption, poverty, and
frustration he saw and wanted to incorporate in the socio-political
lyrics he was writing.”
The band he formed
SEPTIMUS got rave reviews from the village voice and metal forces
magazine and was considered one of the loudest bands in New York City
at the time.
