Born in Granada, Spain, J. Truly is an artist with an international perspective. The singer and guitarist moved to America when he was young, and spent most of his life traveling back and forth across the Atlantic. That experience made J. Truly an artist and a man with two homes, and an appreciation for the diverse culture of each nation, as well as a perspective on how the two can come together. That’s the ethos behind his debut EP, “Rock Like This.”
J. Truly started his love affair with music as a teenager, beginning with classical Spanish guitar. He soon found himself composing his own music, and added vocalist to his arsenal of talents.
As a bi-cultural artist, J. Truly cites influences that span both cultures, including the Gypsy Kings, Estopa, Mana and Alejandro Sanz, Sting, U2, and Cat Stevens. That international flavor comes through clearly in “Rock Like This,” as the artist blends pop, rumba and Spanish ballads, a refreshing style that highlights J. Truly’s experiences in the U.S. and abroad.
The music video for the title track, which was filmed in Granada and New York City, highlights the beauty and natural appeal in combining two distinct cultures and music genres. It blends Spain’s beauty and tradition – the architecture, flamenco, cuisine, and passion for soccer – and transposes them across that inimitable New York skyline, and the city’s diversity and hip hop culture.
The title track’s Latin club-rhythm and pop melody are infinitely danceable, and infectiously catchy. The rest of the album is just as appealing. “Courageous Baby” is a ballad driven by J. Truly’s classical guitar and emotive vocals. “Musica” brings elements of Flamenco Rumba and high-energy that will force you out of your chair and onto the dance floor. “Canto” is a testament to J. Truly’s virtuoso guitar work, with a twisting and galloping melody that’s full of mercurial energy.
The distance between Spain and America never felt so small. “Rock Like This” is a bridge between two cultures that makes the exotic feel enchantingly familiar.

27After Release Self-titled Debut EP
27After says their musical influences are “The Foo Fighters, Johnny Cash, Pantera and our 8 billion brothers and sisters that we live with on the planet.” That global worldview explains the band’s broad-based appeal. All the way from Denver, CO., 27After are making music that speaks to anyone with a pulse.
The Colorado-native trio produce melodic alt-rock with just a touch of hard-edged gravitas. Melodic and more than a little radio-friendly, no one will ever mistake 27After for just another bunch of vapid pop stars.
Guitarist and lead singer Cash Crandall’s songwriting reflects the band’s musical philosophy perfectly. Crandall calls it “the control of intellect with the freedom of letting it all go,” and that paradoxical sense of restrained abandon infuses every track on the album.
Bass lines as dense as a tar pit churn and boil around the guitar and vocals, kept in perfect harmony by high-intensity drumming. The result is a frenetic rock album that’s as catchy as it is compelling.
The October 27 release of 27After’s self-titled debut EP is the long awaited result of a year and a half spent in Colorado, where the trio have been hard at work writing and composing. But that’s not all. Those hours in the studio have also resulted in the band’s first full 12 song CD, scheduled for release in the summer of 2013.
The first two releases, “Live” and “Monday” are already getting attention online. “Live” has a swirling, contemplative energy, punctuated with a message of positivity and love. “Monday” is a straightforward, rollicking, alt-pop masterpiece. Both are well-poised to establish the band on the national stage.
Musically, the in-your-face, “let it all go” style that a 27After show delivers is refreshing. 27After is a believer that there aren’t many things better than discovering new music. Most people will agree after catching 27After’s debut album.

Emerge releases “Sunset Coast” to critical acclaim
The re-emergence of Emerge: the original SF fusion power trio's music is back, this time as a solo project.
The original trio Emerge (guitarist and band leader Peter Jong Chang, bassist Dave Mendoza, and drummer Atma Anur) were no strangers to music, having played together for years in San Francisco, and prior to that each member had his own long history. Together though, they found a combination that became far more than the sum of its parts – a sound, heady and powerful, and almost impossible to resist. Elements of rock, jazz, funk, soul, and reggae blend together seamlessly.
“Sunset Coast,” is the latest album, a complete solo effort by original band leader and producer, Peter Jong Chang. Largely guitar-driven, “Sunset Coast” showcases Peter’s talents perfectly. The sound evokes the California coastline that he still considers home, while also bringing in occasional elements of the Southwest, where he currently resides. It’s like instrumental surf-rock with a little jet fuel thrown into the mix.
The title track "Sunset Coast" launches soaring guitar lines that flit between the churning rhythms effortlessly, like a bird. Lead track “Octane” lives up to its name – boisterous and rocking. "Article 1" is like an exotic journey that reels with its relentless, driving beat, while "Coconut" is a fun, tropical groove with power, allure and a hypnotic melody.
Emerge was “born out of a need to create music, not to play to the masses, but to satisfy personal desires for creative fulfillment. Emerge came together as a project about playing and nothing more,” according to Peter. The tradition of diverse styles and eclectic songwriting from the original trio are evident in Sunset Coast as well – this music creates a sonic composition unlike anything else out there. “What attracted me to Emerge is that all the songs are loose yet arranged at the same time,” says drummer Atma Anur.
And that’s the whole point. “From song to song there’s so much variation” Peter says. “It’s not the exact same groove in a different tempo, and the fact that there are all these parts within a given song, you have to really create transitions and it forces you to be on your toes to play this music.”
“Sunset Coast” proves that dynamic creativity can produce amazing music, and crafting amazing music is something Emerge does perfectly.

Poetik releases debut album, “The Road Less Traveled”
Jolie Montlick’s “My Song for Taylor Swift” Takes on Bullies, Music Video Goes Viral.
Jolie has turned her love of music and songwriting into inspiration and help for other kids in her newly released song and anti-bullying music video, “My Song for Taylor Swift.” The video has gone viral in less than 4 weeks, having been seen around the world in over 100 countries. The music video recently premiered to a crowd of 10,000 people in Atlanta for October National Anti-Bullying Month, and Jolie appeared live to bring her message of kindness, compassion and hope. With its catchy tune and cast of over 150, the music video empowers kids to take positive actions in the face of bullying, and to be a friend to someone who is a being bullied. It also honors Taylor Swift, who was once a victim of bullying. Jolie decided to write the song after sitting in the front row of Swift’s “Speak Now” Tour. “I was inspired by Taylor and how she overcame bullying and became such a positive role model. She didn’t let bullying and what others thought stop her from accomplishing her goals,” says the 5th-grader. “I also believe that courage and kindness are contagious, and the more kids lead by example, the more kids will follow.” “My Song for Taylor Swift” is already having a major impact: with its upbeat tune and heartwarming scenes the music video has been used for community and school anti-bullying rallies to show positive examples of actions that kids can take. And kids who have heard the song or watched the video have said things like: “I am not going to be a victim anymore,” and “I am going to speak up the next time I see someone being bullied.” On her website, Jolie writes: “Sadly, over 50% of kids will be the victim of bullying at some point in their life…and what’s even crazier is that something like 85% of the time kids just stand by and do nothing…In the face of bullying, there’s no such thing as an innocent bystander. We all have the power to play a key role in preventing or stopping bullying.” Jolie is taking a leading role in raising awareness of bullying and providing kid with solutions. When she’s not wowing fans, Montlick, along with her sister Nikki, are the national spokespeople for A4K, the Ambassadors 4 Kids Club (a4kclub.org), a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering young people to speak out against bullying and child abuse. The girls have appeared in numerous television interviews and public service announcements, to promote awareness and help provide kids with the information they need to prevent, stop and report bullying and child abuse. And Jolie is doing more than talking and singing about bullying. She is donating 100% of the net proceeds from the sale of the audio recording of “My Song for Taylor Swift” to the A4K Club to help stop bullying. As Montlick says on her website: “I believe you are never too young to make a difference!” The video can be seen at JolieMontlick.com, and is also available for purchase, along with her other songs, on iTunes, Amazon and other digital distribution sites. The Single “My Song for Taylor Swift” is distributed globally by MondoTunes (www.MondoTunes.com) and is available at iTunes for convenient purchase and download
