Following a long, successful career in music around the country, singer/songwriter Marcos Gabriel has released his first long-playing record, “Pido Perdon” (I Apologize). He began in music at the young age of 23, singing for a Puerto Rican and Dominican band called Saborengue. His career began in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, and has led him thousands of miles away to the not-so sleepy town of Los Angeles, California, where he has devoted himself exclusively to his solo album. The record consists of twelve all-new original songs written in the cumbia genre of Tex-Mex.

This, Gabriel's first solo album, includes many various themes, most of them drawing upon the personal life of Gabriel, himself. Many of the tracks are reflective, such as Escapar al Presente (Escape to This), El Desperta de la Conciencia (The Alarm of Conscience), Mas Que Mil Palabras (More than a Thousand Words), and Esta Es Mi Noche (This Is My Night). He also explores the themes of joy and sadness in Dibujandolos (Drawing Them), Desahogate (Pour), and Estoy Feliz y Reirme Otra Vez (I am Happy and Laughing Again). He writes of his desires – and the desires of others – in Envenenado (Poisoned), writes of treason and betrayal in Amor Fantasma and Soy un Maldito (Love Ghost, I'm a Demon), and writes of his own aggressions and suppositions in Presumiendo un Poco (Presuming a Bit).

Many different tones are present in Gabriel's “Pido Perdon” album, an affect of his great experience. He has performed with four bands besides his own: Saborengue (The Flavor of Dance), Esencia Latina (Latin Essence), Los Graduados de Uruguay (The Graduates of Uruguay), and Mala Espina (Bad Thorn). With Los Graduados de Uruguay, Gabriel published his first two extended-play records, “Lo Que Baila Todo el Pais” (Those Who Dance All Through the Country) and “La Magia de los Graduados” (The Magic of the Graduates).

All things considered, however, “Pido Perdon” is destined to be remembered as Marcos Gabriel's finest moment, a record no fan of cumbia should be without.
