First track from upcoming album, “Back Where We Come From” is a cover of Deadmau5 hit that showcases vast talent
Dutch chanteuse Sofie Letitre learned to play music with her father, a guitarist. Now, as a solo artist, she’s taking those lessons and applying them to her own career.
Letitre is a piano balladeer of the highest caliber. She showcases her talents perfectly with “I Remember,” a fresh take on the hit from Canadian electro-house music producer and DJ, Deadmau5. The single is the first release from her soon to be released debut album, “Back Where We Come From.” The composition is artfully arranged – rich without overblown density, and emotional without feeling overwrought. It strikes a careful balance between accessibility and personal introspection that should make it very popular with nearly any audience. The song is a bone-bruise reminder of lost love and dedication, and Letitre delivers “I Remember” with all of the emotional intensity that the song deserves.
Mixing soft piano melodies, with swirling electronic accents, lush percussion rhythms, highly-stylized guitar crashes, and that amazing voice, Sofie Letitre has created something achingly beautiful that begs and pleads, in whispers and moans, for not just one listen, but many.
Letitre’s haunting vocals don’t accompany the music so much as float above it like a bird of prey, waiting for the right moment to strike, then diving in a spiral of emotional intensity. This one has it all.
Inspired by musicians and artists like Fiona Apple, Sia, Radiohead, Letitre takes a similar approach to music, taking a unique path to personal expression. And it’s getting results. The dark, jazzy ballad has gotten the attention of “I Remember” creator, DJ/producer Deadmau5, and he has publicly described Letitre’s version of his song as "Bloody Amazing!" That’s no small praise. When “Back Where We Come From” is released on October 26, 2012, Letitre is sure to earn even more. Give “I Remember” a listen and see for yourself.
