Thai Lee releases new LP record, 'Across Time'

The musical composer from Canberra, Australia known as Thai Lee has released his newest LP record, titled, “Across Time,” to universally positive reviews. The album has been released on the Across Time Records music label. Being comprised of 14 new, original tracks from Thai Lee, it has an approximate total playing time of over 45 minutes, making for a fairly comprehensive treatment of Lee's repertoire. A thought-provoking, sonically ornate and beautiful album, “Across Time” is accessible for music fans of any genre, and stands as evidence that Thai Lee is a composer of great taste and capability.

The sound of “Across Time” is one of delicately balanced tones and moods that ebb and flow like tidal fluctuations. He cites as main artistic influences fairly disparate musicians, namely, Enya, Nobuo Uematsu, Hanz Zimmer, and Nigel Westlake.

Pop-punk band A Breakaway releases new EP 'Alone in the Crowd'

The Connecticut crew of hardcore-laced pop-punk music known as A Breakaway have released their flagship new debut EP, titled, “Alone in the Crowd.” The EP is comprised of six original tracks for an approximate total playing time of 25 minutes. Charged with adrenaline, power and endless amounts of youthful vigor, “Alone in the Crowd” by A Breakaway represents an entirely unique meeting point of pop, hardcore music, and latter-day punk rock that is as unpredictable as it is effective and evocative.

Describing the sound of “Alone in the Crowd” is like describing totally disparate bands altogether. Vocals sometimes recall the grating punk tones of Fat Mike from NOFX, yet sometimes the hardcore-inspired screaming of Spencer Chamberlain from Underoath, and even sometimes the autotune-gilt voice of Davey Havok from AFI. Multicolored like the many facets of their singing, their guitars are often melodic for whole measures, but suddenly chug into a hardcore-era breakdown while their drums pound out a double kick-pedal battlefront shelling.

Perhaps the most likeable quality of A Breakaway, however, is their endearing earnestness and no-nonsense approach to the music-listening public at large. Their character is devoid of arrogance at any stage, and their artistic principles are pure, uncompromised, and marked with a compassionate humanism that is extremely rare to find in a subgenre full of primadonnas and poseur tough guys.

Heidi Zettl and the Sound Underground release new single 'Tell Me Everything'

Heidi Zettl and the Sound Underground have released their flagship new single, titled, “Tell Me Everything,” to resounding critical and fan acclaim. The new track has been released on the Heidi Zettl and the Sound Underground Records music label. Though the young chanteuse from Arlington, TX released a track under her own name last year, the popular pop-rock single, “Crazy,” this new release “Tell Me Everything” represents the official introduction of her band, the Sound Underground, to the public at large. Doom rock duo ICU releases new album 'The Less You Know...'

The artists of electronic doom rock known as ICU have released their new full-length album, “The Less You Know...” The record is the culmination of more than a decade's worth of collaboration between the musicians from Australia. It is categorized as doom rock, but has its heart and soul rooted the dark wave and industrial music of the early and mid- 1990s. Brooding, lurking, heavy-hitting and composed with unhealthy doses of menace and mayhem, “The Less You Know...” is a definitive work of the doom rock genre from down, way, way down under.

ICU has been producing their shadowy brand of electro-rock since 2000. They cite as main artistic influences the likes of Nine Inch Nails, Gary Numan, and the early work of Marilyn Manson, all of whom share many excellent qualities with the tone and style of “The Less You Know...” The record's main strength is in its broad swaths of instrumental orchestration, which is more complex and widely varied than Trent Reznor's, allowing for five-minute tracks that are profound, gripping, and never repetitive. Like classical music composed by a demonic android from a science-fiction horror story, “The Less You Know...” is terrifying yet beautiful, thundering yet serene, evocative of hellish imagery and delicate sorrow, and punctuated with moments of unlikely sensitivity that ebbs and flows like a tide.

Writing of the message their new album has for their listeners, ICU is very clear: “That the normalcy of popular music and what musical expression is perceived to be in the modern age should be challenged at all costs!”

More than a decade in the making, ICU's current sound is the result of perseverance over what the band's bio calls “several ups and downs, hangovers, name changes and break ups,” which tempered and molded their style over the years. These hurdles were not insignificant. Half of the creative force moved to the opposite coast of the continent. Like their music itself, they conquered through the use of modern technology.

“[We] took to transferring files via file sharing networks and surprisingly encountered very few limitations,” they write. “4000 kilometers didn’t seem to matter at all.”

Their artistic goals and principles were affected, likewise.

In moving forward with ICU, the musicians decided that “No one would become precious. Everything was open to evolution. And what was created would only serve itself.”

Digital music legend Andy Pickford releases remastered LP 'Lughnasad'

Andy Pickford has released the remastered version of his widely cherished LP record, “Lughnasad,” to broad critical and fan acclaim. The original “Lughnasad” was the final Pickford album to be released before his eight-year hiatus from solo work, during which he collaborated with a bevy of other respected artists. It is comprised of 15 tracks for a total of one and a half hours' worth of stunning, arresting music.

The sound of “Lughnasad” is a shift from previous Pickford records in that it is more ambient and progressive in tone and style, by far the most experimental of his LP albums. He makes profound use of Schumann resonances, which are a set of spectrum peaks in the extremely low frequency portion of the Earth's electromagnetic field. These reverberations have been known to synchronize to the frequencies of human brainwaves during the dream state.

“Thus,” Pickford himself explains, “the sound is designed to interact with your own imagination, to bring you relaxing visions and make you feel as if you've experienced something more than great music.”

The effect is a soothing, calming album the likes of which no artist has ever before composed.

Interestingly, “Lughnasad” was never mastered before its debut, the artist having decided that the raw mix could not be better defined at the time. The present incarnation of Pickford's album is not a remastered version in the strictest sense, therefore, but rather a newly mastered version with carefully sculpted nuances not appearing in the original. The added depth, texture, and scope these provide cannot be overstated.

Speaking of the difference this has made, Pickford writes, “[The mastering] has produced a wonderfully rounded, dynamically expressive sound which sounds great even using a surround sound system, and which is especially impressive on headphones.”

In addition to its other remarkable traits, “Lughnasad” also features vocals by Rachel Cohen, of popular and notable Welsh bands Karnataka and the Reasoning.

Lughnasad is named for the ancient Gaelic festival which was celebrated in Ireland, Scotland, and the Isle of Man. It ushered in the beginning of the harvest festival, 31 July through 1 August, and shares the official release date of Pickford's album of the same name. He has stated that of his full-length records, “Lughnasad” is his personal favorite.

Hip hop artist Bizzoe releases 'Summer Breeze' single feat. Trizzy

Howard Maple releases new LP '0313 Perspectives'

The Norwegian artist of digital music known as Howard Maple has released his newest LP record, titled, “0313 Perspectives.” The album is comprised of 14 original tracks and has an approximate total playing time of 50 minutes. A comprehensive record with a broad range of tones and moods, “0313 Perspectives” is an epic treatment of Maple's work and a fine introduction for music fans who have yet to be acquainted with his brilliant and unique style of electronic composition.

Upon pressing 'play,' the listener will immediately understand that Maple is not like every other producer of EDM music. Firstly, his compositions are more than strictly dance music, though they do lend themselves well to the nightclub atmosphere. This is exemplified by “Youre Hands” [sic] the first track on the record. His samples paint vivid images, tell stories, and even suggest snippets of philosophy. His album is a thought-provoking and intellectual treat for audiophiles of all tastes.

“0313 Perspectives” even touches on the border of the esoteric, bearing song titles like “As Above So Below” (a Hermetic principle of metaphysics), “Ra Comes to Conquer,” and the aptly titled, “Zen.” Other tracks are more traditional, and boast many qualities of the best 90s electronica. “Birdland” is reminiscent of The Orb's seminal classic, “Little Fluffy Clouds,” for instance. “Signature” falls somewhere in between, being a fully narrated tale set to calming, soothing music. This marvelous blend makes for an entirely wonderful listen from beginning to end, and is sure to please a room of guests no matter what their tastes.

Regarding his goal for “0313 Perspectives,” Maple himself says, “It is a release showing what I have done for the last ten years, after my second album, 'Mapleism' was released, from 2003 to the present day.” Maple's first record, 'Inside,' garnered him a Norwegian Grammy nomination. He has continued to put his magical ear to use in making fine music ever since. “I feel that I had to share my tracks to the world instead of letting them disappear on a hard drive,” he says. “[This album] is basically just to share my music with the world, plain and simple.”

Dreamstate Emergency releases new LP 'Oneirophobia'

The creative crew called Dreamstate Emergency have released their new LP, titled, “Oneirophobia.” The album is comprised of nine original tracks for a running total of half an hour. A brutal, shocking, stabbing record with all the ferocity and viciousness that speed and death metal have been aiming to achieve for more than thirty years, “Oneirophobia” is all that is horrifyingly wrong with the world, wrapped up in a set list that will chill bones, grip hearts, and strip the paint off of household appliances at appropriately high volumes.

This being roundly and explicitly understood, “Oneirophobia” is a work of great artistic integrity, vivid color, and genius-level composition. It is metal for the thinking man. Perhaps best categorized as experimental metal more than anything else, it belongs next to Neurosis in the audiophile's cherished record collection. Like Neurosis, Dreamstate Emergency is not afraid of digital instrumentation and effects that are often frightening to the core. The careful listener will hear air-raid sirens, faraway shell explosions, and much, much more. Additionally, they boast vocals that shriek and howl, scream and tear in ways Metallica's James Hetfield has always wished he could pull off.

Dreamstate Emergency's drums pound in tribal, occult patterns that evoke visions of bonfires, chants, and black hoods. Their guitars are like an ocean of orchestrated noise, a chorus of demonic sirens' calls from deep beneath the earth. The brilliance of their guitar playing is perhaps best exemplified in their track, “Out of Body Experience.” The listener who can hear the song through to its end without the hairs on his forearms standing up has no soul. Their songwriting is masterful and tasteful, often surprisingly, almost impossibly precise. Their decision to leave “The Awakening” in all its beautiful simplicity at barely over a minute long shows an understanding of musical principles most artists never garner in decades of writing and performing.

All in all, “Oneirophobia” is likely the best metal album of 2013 so far, and may hold this title through to next year. No metal fan should do without it, and music fans in general would do well to get over any phobias of their own and visit this dark, scary place called Dreamstate Emergency.

JaCee and the Jags release new LP record 'Risky Luv'

The musician and man of the world known simply as JaCee has released his new flagship LP record, “Risky Luv,” with his crew of creativity called the Jags. The album has been released on the Jacee Music Ltd. music label. With approximately 45 minutes' worth of excellent listening, “Risky Luv” by JaCee and the Jags makes for a comprehensive introduction to this eclectic musical mastermind from Massachusetts. It is standing proof that JaCee knows exactly how music should be done, and a stunning reminder that music done right just doesn't come around often enough, anymore.

The sheer talent showcased on “Risky Luv” is staggering. JaCee's style changes from track to track like Caribbean trade winds, proving him to be elastic in his tastes and capabilities to an almost schizophrenic level. Throughout the record, a consistent thread of absolute flawlessness and 60s-era cool connects one song to the other.

Otherwise, JaCee's songs can be as disparate as sea and sky. He recalls the verve-charged proto-punk rock of The Kinks, and variously the cigarette-and-three-button suit sound of Henry Mancini. He cha-chas into the Latin realms of bossa nova, and bass-lines his way down into deep, groovy funk (a la Bill Withers). He spends time in the gutter with a gritty, raw sound reminiscent of Nick Cave, and somehow visits '80s synth pop in between. Blues. Jazz. His incarnations are seemingly infinite. Most of the compositions on “Risky Luv” are originals, but some standards are also rendered in the Jags' own edgy fashion.

JaCee cites as main artistic influences Burt Bacharach and Hal David, Henry Mancini, The Beatles, The Kinks, and Frank Sinatra. He is joined on “Risky Luv” by his associated masters of musicianship, the Jags. Their ranks on his new LP include “The Inimitable” Paul Shoemaker playing keyboard and trumpet, “Smokin'” John Squibb providing tenor saxophone, and Fitzy the Fuzz-Electric Guitar.

Lars Alexander releases new EP 'Like an Animal'

Khmer rocker Solid Stone releases new LP 'Black Rose'

The Khmer solo artist of heavy metal rock music known as Solid Stone has released his new LP record album, “Black Rose,” to widespread critical and fan acclaim. He writes of his record that it revolves around the themes of “love, broken hearts, encouragement, believing in oneself, staying strong in mind, and the doing of good in the world.”

Piseth is the first Khmer artist to be signed by the ever-more-popular Sila Records.

Barb C releases new single 'Zulu'

The mysterious new music artist known as Barb C has released his remarkable new single, “Zulu,” to the adulation of fans and critics alike everywhere. Songwriter Christopher David Santangelo teams up with Grammy-Award-winning producer Ted Perlman for new single, 'Hero.'

The songwriter known as Christopher David Santangelo has collaborated with with Grammy-Award-winning producer Ted Perlman for a new single, 'Hero.' It is performed flawlessly by singers Ken Stacey and Peggi Blu. The track is categorized as pop music, but boasts attributes of soft rock and mainstream country music also. Originally written as an homage to Christopher Reeve's immortal portrayal of the greatest American superhero of all time, Superman, “Hero” is a pop epic that stands equally tall in terms of both epic tonalities and endless inner strength.

“Hero,” though only just released, has been lauded by professional music critics and music fans alike. Five-time Grammy Award winner Clive Davis went so far in acting on his estimation of the song to personally endorse it to his associates. These accolades are no fluke, however. Likewise Grammy winner Ted Perlman, who is credited as producer and co-writer on “Hero,” has myriad successes in the music industry. Speaking of the themes of “Hero,” Santangelo writes, “It was originally written as a tribute to Christopher Reeve but is targeted at the hero in all of us. It questions our need to change who we are, whether we always should in order to please others, and if that change is always the right choice.” These queries go far deeper than the usual heroic story tells. “How far would you go to be someones hero?” asks Santangelo.

Blues rocker Randy Scott releases new LP 'Out of the Blue'

The guitarist and songwriter of blues rock known as Randy Scott has released his debut LP record album, “Out of the Blue,” to widespread standing ovation from critics and fans alike. Rapper J-Bo releases EP 'Queen City'

The rapper from Iberia, LA, known as J-Bo has released his capital new EP record, “Queen City,” to the excitement and elation of fans everywhere. The EP is comprised of four original tracks for a total playing time of nearly 15 minutes. It includes the J-Bo hit singles, “Bandz,” “Faded,” “Ball Like Nino,” and “F--- Yeah.” Each of the four songs is labeled with the parental advisory explicit lyrics sticker. The “Queen City” extended-play album has been released on the M.a.r.s. Ent. music label.

J-Bo (also sometimes referred to in the hip-hop underground of the South as Scott Spliff) writes lines and rhymes that are fit to spit. His lyrics are heavy-hitting, well-phrased, and delivered with the punch of the inner city sound, though over a “dirty south” groove and beat. His music is a personal battle against the large corporate structures that dominate and control the urban music scene. His official bio states very clearly that J-Bo has the “ambition to take over in this lyrical rap warfare that's being underrated by the big labels.”

The themes of “Queen City” are personal in nature to J-Bo, also.

“[My new EP] gives some input about the life I live,” he writes. “I'm introducing my city to my fans, and giving them a lil' insight of my vision. My vision inspires me to keep on pushing on this path to get where I wanna be in this competitive business that's fueled by jealousy and envy.”

When asked about how he began making music, J-Bo replies, “It was a calling. Like, it just came to me naturally. It became a part of the way I live on a day-to-day basis.”

J-Bo's cited main artistic inspirations are performing, freestyling, and poetry, the most natural ways a rapper can garner inspiration.

Music artist Cammyo releases new single '2 Echo Pussycats – Emerald'

The popular artist and composer of digital music known as Cammyo has released his newest single, “2 Echo Pussycats – Emerald,” to rave reviews and fan delight. The single is the latest in a long string of digital music releases from Cammyo Vegas (often shortened to simply Cammyo) that have exhibited a consistently high quality in terms of both creative composition and production value.
