The rappers known
internationally as Missing Linx have released their latest
full-length album, “Spaxe Camels.” The record contains 15
original Missing Linx tracks for an approximate total listening time
of 75 minutes. In addition to the talents of Missing Linx, “Spaxe
Camels” features performances by Scruffmouth the Scribe, Luss,
Rude-Enemy, Tara Don, Nathaniel Larochette, Balam Santos, Dini, and
Karl Acelin. It has been proudly published on the Nationless Mind
Records independent music label. Varied, beat-driven, and pulsing
with urban poetry, “Spaxe Camels” is a new flagship release for
this creative hip-hop and spoken-word crew from Canada.
Missing Linx [often
stylized 'Missing LinX'] are Just Jamaal, Prufrock, Cannon2x, and
Cheko Salaam. They cite as main artistic influences Sun-Ra, The
Pharcyde, Kendrick Lamar, Earth, Wind and Fire, and Tupac Shakur. As
may be surmised, drawing from such a broadly varied selection lends a
multifaceted character to their already kaleidoscopic style.
Nationless Mind Records
comments on this: “By blending the density and meaningfulness of
spoken word poetry with the raw energy, charisma and verbal dexterity
typified by the best of hip-hop music, Missing Linx have opened up a
trove of limitless creative potential and malleability.”
The troupe have also been
lauded for their themes of social awareness and personal growth.
“The group is
celebrated not just for its contributions to the world’s
spoken-word communities,” says NMR, “but its ability to take the
social and political potency of hip-hop music and push it into
authentically futuristic territory without dishonouring its past.”
Asked about the overall
themes of their new album, Missing Linx write: “'SpaXe Camels' is a
sonic psychedelic experience inviting the listener to question our
concept of 'space' to include the mental, spiritual, metaphysical and
unknown factors (hence the use of 'X,' pronounced 'shh'). Within this
expansive universe, the camel is a symbol of resilience, compassion
and the riding of 'spaXe.'”
Nationless Mind has
described “Spaxe Camels” as “somehow finding a balance between
four distinct voices” to create a universe “which carries many
worlds within one world, an ancient, yet futuristic vision of the
present that includes a supernatural but humbled version of what it
means to be human.”
