Merc100Man,
formerly known as Merciless, has released his latest video “On the Go”
Merc100Man, who very recently released his newest LP “Young,
Fly, and Self-Employed” to broad critical and fan acclaim, has released “On the
Go,” a video accompanying the single from the album of the same name. Much like
the rest of “Young, Fly…,” Merc’s single is a modern rap classic utilizing all
his old-school talent to showcase the best qualities of urban sound. In
addition, the single features Yung Ro making his showtime debut.
The video is a celebration, a exultant hoorah for Merc’s
recently obtained liberty (Merc100Man was sentenced to eight years in Texas for marijuana
possession; some of his latest tracks were recorded over the prison telephone).
It begins with Merc leaving the state penitentiary and reflecting that he can’t
believe he’s out, that his ordeal is over. It’s an entirely earnest start to an
entirely exuberant song – a personal moment shared with his fans, who
Merc100Man often speaks to as if his fans were extended family members. His first
step in the outside world is to rejoin his old compatriot, an immaculate, miraculous,
shining 1962 Impala SS convertible. That’s when the back beat drops.
The lyrics rhythmically spat by Merc and Ro in “On the Go” mostly
revolve around the typical issue of the modern man: earning the almighty
dollar. Far from lamenting the harsh necessities of life, though, Merc100Man
and Yung Ro rap with relish, enthusiasm, and more than a little pride about the
well-deserved fruits of their labor. Still, Merc has more than money on his
mind, in fact.
“For this video,” Merc says, “I wanted to convey
that even through all the problems, all the mistakes people can make, even
through the toughest of times, you can still keep your head up high and move
forward in a positive fashion.” If there were ever any consistent theme in
Merc100Man’s repetoire, perseverence and tenacity would encapsulate it. “You
can still be that positive influence in someone’s life,” says Merc100Man. “Like,
take for example myself, being incarcerated for 2 years and now on parole – I’m
not dwelling on my past. I’m not letting that hold me back. I’m ‘On The Go,’
moving forward and doing what I love to do, which is music.”
Merc100Man’s full-length LP “Young, Fly, and Self-Employed” became available January 2013.
