The S.O.G Crew releases newest hip hop single “Got to Believe”

Anaheim, California's legendary Latin American hip hop artists, the S.O.G. Crew, has released their newest powerhouse single entitled “Got to Believe.”

Anaheim, California's legendary Latin American hip hop artists, the S.O.G. Crew (short for Sons of God) has released their newest powerhouse single entitled “Got to Believe.” The single is an energetic, heart thumping tour de force of cutting edge hip hop that showcases the band's optimism, humanism, social awareness and spiritual tenacity. It features the hit lineup that has made them extremely popular in the urban and gospel hip hop genres, Dr. Robert “Battle Ax” Ornelas (MC/vocalist), Robert “Lil' Battle Ax” Ornelas Jr. (MC/vocalist), and Krista “Luminous V” Rocha (MC/vocalist). Front man Dr. Ornelas is also historically noted for being the first Latin American from California to run for Vice President of the United States as an American Independent Party candidate.

Like many – though far from most – rap artists, the S.O.G. Crew take their lyrics extremely seriously, using them to broadcast their beliefs and values, as well as to carefully sculpt their personae as musicians. “I'm from these streets, too,” declares the single; “I feel your pain.” They clearly and vociferously emphasize that they are on a musical mission to uplift humankind. “I believe we can change our humanity,” continue the lyrics from their newest release; “Gonna change the whole world, baby, don't be mad at me.”

The S.O.G. Crew takes particular interest in supporting their Latino culture and raising respect and awareness for Latin American and Native American identity, also. “We fight our glorious fight for our family,” the single goes. Their online bio shows that they're very well respected by the Native American Nation, among myriad other institutions: “They are streetwise and know how to keep it clean, so the S.O.G. Crew is invited to nightclubs, colleges, universities, high schools, prisons, rehabs, project housing, and just about every Native American Indian Tribe in the U.S.”

The S.O.G. have been active since the nineteen nineties as important representatives of Latino and Christian culture in the hip hop music genre. Their third full length record, “Where Legends Are Born” was released on Executive Universal Music Group in March of 2011, and they have toured this album in the continental United States, Hawaii, Alaska, and Mexico.

The artists have called their genre “cause music,” and this moniker is more than somewhat appropriate. “It is more than music,” they write. “It’s a message of hope, encouragement and influence.”

The S.O.G.'s single, “Got to Believe” is available online everywhere.
