The singer-songwriter of
rock and adult contemporary music known as Paula Punch has released
her debut LP album, “Don't Look Down.” The record contains eight
original Punch tracks for an approximate total listening time of 30
minutes. Like the rest of Paula Punch's repertoire, “Don't Look
Down” has been proudly published on the Punch Park independent
record label without the direction of the corporate music industry.
Driving, grooving, powerful and uplifting, “Don't Look Down”
proves Paula Punch one of the most intriguing rock voices of 2018.
Sydney, Australia's Paula
Punch cites as main artistic influences Ed Kuepper, Joni Mitchell,
Eurythmics, Ron Sexsmith, Shawn Colvin, Bob Dylan, and Neil Young.
“Recently, I love
Sigrid, First Aid Kit and LP,” she notes.
Her own style shares the
same passionate, independent spirit which gave rise to names like
Tori Amos, Sheryl Crow and Sarah McLachlan, and ultimately, to the
now-legendary Lilith Fair of the 1990s. Fans of any of the above will
find much to appreciate in “Don't Look Down.”
Paula Punch's debut LP
showcases her as a varied songwriter, also. Songs on the record range
from slow-burners like “Take Me Back” to pop cruisers like “Lucky
Girl,” and from rock waltzes like “Watch Over Me” to the
finger-snapping title track, “Don't Look Down,” a radio-ready
single which works to exemplify Punch's album in theme as well as
tone.
“Paula's music is
personal,” says the Punch Park label of its namesake artist, “yet
it talks to women about living a modern life in an urban environment
with all the joys and struggles that emanate from the constant
juggle.”
Paula Punch, herself,
says, “The music has changed my world. I feel like a teenager again
– inspired, energized and excited to tell more stories through my
songs.”
Paula Punch began her
music career in earnest in 2017 and wasted no time in achieving Fifth
Place in the ASA Songwriting Competition for her single, “Take Me
Back.” Her music is studio produced by Rob Gist (guitarist, Girl
Overboard). Her musical creativity spun from her creation of Punch
Park, which has been described as “a website dedicated to
expressing her creativity through fashion, music and art, and sharing
her stories by recording and performing her own songs.”
“Don't Look Down”
