The songwriter and
producer of reggae known as Mark Messam has released his latest
official single, “Best Friend.” The single has been released in
both an official and a semi-acapella edition. It has been proudly
published as an independent release without the involvement of the
corporate music industry on the Riddem to Dem Entertainment record
label. Grooving, heartfelt, and boasting a shiny, sharp production
value, “Best Friend” showcases Mark Messam as one of the most
powerful reggae artists of the year.
St. Elizabeth, Jamaica's
Mark Messam cites as main artistic influences Bob Marley, Sanchez,
Mikey Melody, and Sam Cooke. His own musical journey began in earnest
when he crossed paths with Sunny High Power (King Lion Sound System).
Mark Messam's own sound takes elements from each of these and adds
something fresh and unique for a result unlike anything today's music
fans have heard before. With an emphasis on striking brass sounds,
genuine singing and a truly undeniable rhythm, “Best Friend” by
Mark Messam has a little something for every fan of reggae and roots
reggae music.
Asked to describe the
overall meaning of “Best Friend,” Mark Messam writes simply,
“Showing love to a special person and that you will be there from
beginning to end.”
As noted in his current
official bio, Mark Messam has been immersed in reggae music since his
youth. His career truly started in 1983 with the legendary
Jamaica-based King Lion in 1983. Since moving to the United States,
Messam has shared the stage with such titans of the sound as Buju
Banton, Beenie Man, Lady Saw, Tonto Metro & Devante, King Yellow
Man, and yet more. He has performed far and wide in such locales as
New York, New England and the DC Metro Area, the Cape Verde Islands
(1999) as well as an entire Jamaican tour with Terry Lennin (2003).
Mark Messam's most recent
international journey was to Kingston, Jamaica's Anchor Recording
Studio (Fatta) and Groove Box Entertainment (Roan Dwyer) to mix his
“One Man” LP (2007). “One Man” was produced by Djim Job and
co-produced by Mark Messam and, like his new “Best Friend”
single, released on the STEREOPHONIC Riddem to Dem Ent. label.
