Punk rockers the Escapes release new album 'Blur'

The punk trio from Sydney, Australia known as the Escapes have released their second official album, “Blur.” The album has been proudly published on the Mahooney independent record label without the support or direction of the corporate music industry. Driving, aggressive, and full of the original hardcore spirit, “Blur” by the Escapes demands that fans of rock music everywhere stand up and take notice.

The Escapes cite as main artistic influences the Mummies, Nobunny, Devo, the Stooges, the Sonics, the Strokes, the Saints, and the Missing Links. Fans of legendary groups such as these will immediately understand the classic sounds and styles the Escapes have put in their creative toolbox for building something unique in the 21st century.

Asked to describe the overall themes of their songs on “Blur,” the Escapes write that “Each song has it's own little story. Some might be serious, some might be about love, or some might just be tongue-in-cheek.”

The Escapes are Rodney, Alan and Rissole. Their current official bio describes them as originally formed by a failure to fill a time slot at a small indie music festival. After playing for the first time live and impromptu at the festival, the Escapes decided to continue their collaboration. The name comes from a previous project in which they had worked together, the Apes. The present name, “The Escapes,” riffs on that.

Helping their decision to go on as the Escapes was a steady influx of gig offers stemming from their very first performance.

Their bio notes that their debut release dropped in 2010, and that “after several lazy years and lame arguments,” they made their way back into the studio to record the present release of “Blur.”

“They recorded their second album all in one day,” reads their bio, “as that’s all the time they wanted to spend with each other. It was recorded by Jason Whalley in his studio in Marrickville.”

The Escapes are Rodney Todd (bass and vocals), Kristian “Rissole” Woodcroft (guitar and vocals) Alan Hislop (drums and vocals). Rodney has played/plays in bands such as the Mess Makers, the Unf-ckable and Key Out. Kristian has played in bands such as the Alohas and the Steak Lovers. Alan has played in bands such as the Interstellar Villains and the Moffs.

“Blur” by the Escapes is available from over 600 quality digital music stores online worldwide now.

OJ's Beat Factory releases new album 'The Original Beat Collection, Vol. 2'

The composer and producer of back beats known as OJ's Beat Factory has released his latest LP album, “The Original Beat Collection, Vol. 2.” The LP contains no fewer than 14 original OJ's Beat Factory tracks for an approximate total listening time of 120 minutes. Like the rest of the ever-expanding OJBF repertoire, it has been proudly published on the Yea Boi Productions independent record label without the direction of the corporate music industry. Varied, ingenious, and bringing the old-school sound into the 21st century with unique, cutting-edge innovations, “The Original Beat Collection, Vol. 2” is the newest reason for fans of hip hop to pay attention to this beat alchemist from Chicago.

OJ's Beat Factory is OJ Sexton. OJ cites as main artistic influences legends such as Prince, Stevie Wonder, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, and Paul Hardcastle, as well as contemporary titans like Khaled, Metro Boomin', DJ Mustard, and Kanye West. Fans of 808s and 909s will not be disappointed. OJ has described his inimitable blended style as New Groove music, a category all his own.

“New groove is a blend of just about everything!” writes OJ. “Honestly there's no other real way to explain it in words. New groove combines genres that otherwise wouldn't be caught dead on the same album while being able to form it in a way that attracts mainstream appeal.”

This makes music from OJ's Beat Factory attractive to music listeners of every genre. It also makes his music useful for an array of purposes, such as back beats for radio, film, or even video gaming.

Speaking of his new album, OJ Sexton writes, “This album is the second issue of my best beats from the past. I've been through so much in life, and all of those stories come out in my music (even though this LP is nothing more than the tip of the iceberg).”

This iceberg's tip narrates in uncompromising terms the true emotions of a digital artist with a vinyl soul and a rhythmic mind. Two tracks have particular significance:

“Unapologetic” is OJ's first track to be submitted to Internet radio. A pop song mixed with elements of rock, trap, synthwave, and disco, it was composed with Rihanna in mind. Also, “Buck Wild (In the Hood)” has been called “a monster cut that's begging for vocals or a soundtrack feature.”

“By listening to this album and my previous releases,” says OJ, “you'll not only learn my story but possibly find the soundtrack to yours. There's a song of mine for everyone, and, with this album, I want to create something anyone can enjoy anytime. Just love God, love yourself, love one another, and love music.”

OJ Sexton makes one final, crucial note, however:

“I would also like to mention that today is my mom's birthday and this record is, in addition to a second collection of beats from the past, a birthday gift to her.”

Happy birthday, Cynthia!

“The Original Beat Collection, Vol. 2” from OJ's Beat Factory is available from over 600 quality digital music stores online worldwide beginning 21 November 2017. Get in early, fans of groove everywhere.

(Tracks 6-11 are available with the deluxe version only and include special remixes of some of Beat Factory's most popular tracks in Chicago).

Director / music artist Kaiju the Unconquerable releases new video and short film 'Cyberpunk 2050'

The director and music artist known as Kaiju the Unconquerable has released his new video and short film, “Cyberpunk 2050.” The video has been proudly published on the AllUnsigned independent label without the control of the corporate music or film industries. It is the sixth installment in a series of official releases. Sleek, bleak, and as futuristic as a hacker with a jet pack, “Cyberpunk 2050” stands as evidence that Kaiju the Unconquerable isn't just a talented rap producer performer, but a skilled cinematic storyteller, besides.

Kaiju the Unconquerable cites as main artistic influences Kanye West, the Wu-Tang Clan, MF Doom, DMX, Lupe Fiasco, Lil Wayne, Eminem, Diplomats, G-Unit, Asian culture, Sci-fi, Ridley Scott, Quentin Tarantino, Neill Blomkamp, John Carpenter, Bruce Lee, comic books, and street fashion.

Kaiju the Unconquerable says of his start in hip hop he began by, “Writing battle raps after watching Smack DVD in '06. I totally took music seriously once I started coming out of my pocket to spend for mixing and mastering. That's when the dedication started.”

Speaking strictly of the music, Kaiju The Unconquerable’s rap has been compared to Kendrick Lamar in the sense that his lyric content often tends toward the collegiate and thought-provoking, with better diction than may be expected by fans familiar mostly with mainstream radio hip hop.

“I feel like a hero almost,” says Kaiju, “like I gotta change hip hop and bring back innovation and originality because imitation seems to be the virus killing the art.”

Riley Wallace of AboveAverageHipHop.com writes of Kaiju's work:

“One part MF DOOM, one part living breathing Anime story line, Southwest Miami, rapper Kaiju The Unconquerable is in a lane all his own. A glorified, self-identified nerd, he started rocking stages at comic conventions — and even has the credit of being the first Hip-Hop artist ever to be featured in Shonen Jump, which has been the (print) ground-zero of all things Manga since it was launch 49 years ago.

“Kaiju differs from other 'weirdo' rappers, though — unlike an act like DOOM, he isn’t a character (per se). His songs and his image don’t hinge on each other to coexist. I mean, he uses a healthy amount comic and anime references, but no more than your average nerd-core spitter. He thrives on a wave-appropriate trappish vibe.

“Case and point is his newest release, 'CYBERPUNK 2050.' Over a bouncy trap tinged instrumental, he criticizes artists who create fake personas via social media that they can’t necessarily live up to in real life. 'I’m the kid with the new option, fans waiting like a shoe dropping,' he raps amid a laid back, well-paced barrage of straight bars. Like, this kid can rap!

“Where the nerdery comes in is his visual treatment. In this case, “CYBERPUNK 2050” serves as the sixth installment of an ongoing series of self-directed videos that Kaiju has been dropping over the past year. It’s a complicated storyline to explain, buy in this episode; Kaiju has used a portal to the future, and — to keep it simple — is engaged in some dope martial arts hijinx that make for an entertaining and engaging 6-minute watch.

“Artists are NOT putting this level of original thought process into their sh-t — don’t @ me!”

“'I love embracing who I am that’s why I respect Wu-Tang so much,' he told Lisa Ford Blog last year. 'Because even though they’re from the streets, they embraced the fact they were fans of martial arts movies.' It’s easy to make stylistic parallels to the dedication they have to their respective overarching themes.

“Kaiju has a great back catalog, with a full-length LP, ONI, and then all the material used for his video series following. It’s not clear if there is an actual project lined up that will house records like 'Forbidden' and 'Note 7' ( a banger, BTW) and this new one, but get acquainted — and get ready.”

The narrative of “Cyberpunk 2050” will appeal to fans of popular sci-fi films such as “Blade Runner” and “The Matrix,” with neon lights, flying cars, gun play and martial arts forming key elements. Imaginative costuming and special effects are ever-present in the video, with the background title track retaining the spotlight.

“Cyberpunk 2050,” written, performed, produced and directed by Kaiju the Unconquerable is available online worldwide now.

R&B and nu-soul artist Ray Harry releases new single 'Close Your Eyes to See'

The R&B and nu-soul artist known as Ray Harry has released his latest single, “Close Your Eyes to See.” It is the most recent official release from Ray Harry since his popular August 2016 single, “I Want to Give Thanks.” These and others from Ray Harry have been proudly published on the Lighthouse Music & Media independent record label without the direction of the corporate music industry. Soulful, sonorous, and bringing that unmistakable East Coast groove into the 21st century, “I Want to Give Thanks” stands as evidence that Ray Harry has a place in music collections everywhere.

Brooklyn, NYC's Ray Harry cites as main artistic influences Earth, Wind and Fire, Roy Ayers, the Philly sound, the Motown sound, and as he puts it, “so many more.” “Close Your Eyes to See” takes elements of Roy Ayers and EWF and blends them with the panache of titans such as Al Green, Bill Withers and Isaac Hayes. Ray Harry's raw, interpersonal style communicates to listeners with an unadorned, acoustic production making a naturally clear canvas on which his rich vocals can paint pictures.

“I like to write songs about life,” writes Harry of his lyric themes. “My songs are about love, lost and found. All the dynamics of a relationship, I write about. I also write songs about life struggles and triumphs, the highs and lows of our journey. Many of my songs are written from my experience, but I also observe the world and compose from that perspective. My ultimate message is to send positive vibes through music.”

Ray Harry's current official bio describes him as born and raised in the East New York section of Brooklyn to immigrant parents from Belize and Honduras, Central America.

“From a very early age, the sounds of music captured his heart, and he been on a mission to bring the music from his mind into the real world ever since,” it reads.

Harry credits growing up in New York with sculpting his approach to creating music, characterizing his neighborhood as “a melting pot of cultures where the many musical styles of the community influenced” him. Also affecting his creative efforts was the hi-fi his parents kept in the living room.

“Ray heard a great mix of old school Latin music, soca, calypso, reggae, soul, pop and the traditional music of the Garifuna people, of whom his family is descended,” his bio states.

While the music of his mother and father were seminal in his artistic development, nevertheless it was not where his own career was headed.

“I must admit,” Ray Harry writes, “during the boom-box era, radio was my best friend.”

His elder brothers had extensive record collections stocked with the contemporary soul of the '60s, '70s and the '80s. Ray himself purchased turntables and a mixer, then set out to develop his own vinyl collection.

“Ray's special musical niche was culling hip-hop break beats,” states his bio, “and the early hip productions from the likes of Enjoy Records and the first releases from the legendary Def Jam Records. Ray and his friends would set up speakers on the street corner, cutting and scratching break beats and hip-hop records into the late evening for the community locals.”

Eventually Harry became the house music producer for several aspiring rap groups but never broke through into the mainstream.

Ray Harry is a graduate of Full Sail University with a Bachelor's degree in music production and the founder/CEO of Lighthouse Music & Media.

“Close Your Eyes to See” by Ray Harry is available online worldwide from over 600 digital music stores online worldwide now.

Rapper Bugsy Jones releases debut LP 'F1rst Impression'

The rapper and producer of hip hop known as Bugsy Jones has released his debut LP album, “F1rst Impression.” The full-length record contains 10 original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 40 minutes. It has been proudly published as an independent release without the direction of the corporate music industry. Stylish, direct, and bringing aggressive amounts of party, “F1rst Impression” proves that Bugsy Jones has urban poetry for days and days.

Nashville, TN's Bugsy Jones cites as main artistic influences B.O.B., Fleetwood Mac, Lupe Fiasco, E-40, Jadakiss, and Big K.R.I.T. His own style is built on razor-sharp lines and rhymes, balancing his lyric play with solid back beats and intriguing background melody lines.

Helping Bugsy Jones achieve the complete picture are several talents of the TN hip hop scene. In Jones' own words:

“I appreciate Clevetta Anthony for featuring on this project, Dae Dae Da Great for providing the instrumentals to this project (and Fly Guy Slim for the “Getting My $ On” beat) and last but not least, Dj Wrightful for the production on this project … and YOU for listening.”

Outside this, “F1rst Impression” is all Bugsy. The tracks on his LP are all original to him.

“I'm too much of a writer to let anyone write for me,” he says. “I've always had a flare for wordplay, and to make them flow like water over a beat is just bliss to me.”

Asked to expand on the overall themes of “F1rst Impression,” Jones describes the record as largely autobiographical.

“I've experienced a lot in life,” he says, “and put a lot of it in my music.”

He has called his new album “a real emotional roller coaster.”

“As a fan,” says Bugsy Jones, “I love to hear an artist put together a good, full body of work. That's what this project 'F1rst Impression' is. There's something for everyone, and I feel the listeners will be pleased with the songs, production and wordplay on it.”

Jones himself has been characterized as “a charismatic artist with the lyrical finesse of a millennial wordsmith” and “a walking rhyming dictionary who's fluent in Ebonics.”

Hard rock crew Blacken The Day release new LP 'Eternal Eclipse'

The artists of heavy rock music known as Blacken The Day have released their latest LP album, “Eternal Eclipse.” The record includes eight original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 45 minutes. It has been proudly published on the Devil Frost Records Corporation independent music label without the direction of the corporate music industry. Bringing tones, tempos and emotions from nearly every extremity of the spectrum, “Eternal Eclipse” proves Blacken The Day to be one of the strongest rock appearances of late 2017.

Joliet, Illinois' Blacken The Day cite as artistic influences names from a variety of genres and scenes, from Jimi Hendrix and Lynyrd Skynyrd to Slipknot and Mudvayne, from Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails to Lacuna Coil and K.D. Lang, from ELO to Kansas, and from David Bowie to Bjork.

While this unlikely melange may not paint much of a sonic picture, the fact remains that elements of each do present themselves in “Eternal Eclipse.” If Lacuna Coil had perhaps moments during which Bjork sang lead while Jeff Lynne of ELO played piano, and if the following track featured Slipknot's chunky guitars on a chord progression written by Mudvayne, and if the whole affair had been produced by Bowie using reel-to-reel recordings with the raw-or-nothing principles of Hendrix – then the result could sound very much like Blacken The Day's “Eternal Eclipse.”

The album will appeal to fans of lyric depth, too. Asked to comment on the overall themes of the record, each member had a different perspective, faithfully recorded below:

“Well, that's interpreted more so by the listener, but I always felt it was a story of overcoming the struggles in life by any means necessary,” writes Christopher Poss.

Blacken The Day's Dragmire says, “Don't be afraid to create something beautiful to share with the world, be it music, poetry, paintings, or anything that makes you feel good to make. The world will seem less ugly with more art.”

Says Christopher Graham of the project, “This album will let people know that there is always someone out there that can relate to what you are, or have gone through. This album will be the voice of the voiceless. Also, good and original rock music is not dead …”

Cassandra Ann writes, “The entire album tells a story front to back. A person is anxious, freaked out, can't sleep. You start wondering what the problem is. As you listen to the album you realize the person is going through a lengthy period of reflection after a bad breakup/divorce. After sabotaging him/herself, all he/she wants is to become numb to the pain. The resolution is somewhat bittersweet as nobody gets better, even if the situation becomes clear in the end.”

“Eternal Eclipse” from Blacken The Day is available online worldwide from over 600 quality digital music retailers now. Get in early, fans of dark alternative rock.

New Age indie duo The Sophisticated Psychos release debut album 'Take Us Home'

The New Age indie duo known as The Sophisticated Psychos have released their debut official album, “Take Us Home.” The record has been proudly published on the K111 independent music label without the direction of the corporate music industry. Combining entertaining hooks with razor-sharp production and a compelling message of empowerment, “Take Us Home” is the record to put The Sophisticated Psychos on the map for 2017 and beyond.

Los Angeles' The Sophisticated Psychos cite as main artistic influences Sade, Sting, Janis Joplin, Tupac Shakur, Stevie Nicks, Eminem, the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Motown, Kendrick Lamar, Billie Holiday, Mozart, Beethoven, Jazz, Blues, Jewel, Mariah Carey, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Blink 182, Sublime, Broadway Musicals, Andy Warhol, and Basquiat.

They have been described as “a New Age indie duo who combine the elements of early hip hop with modern synth and live stringed instruments to create a very big cinematic sound experience.”

Based on the world-famous Sunset Blvd., The Sophisticated Psychos are Kyriaki, female poet, songwriter and co-producer, and Nicky Scorpio, male vocalist, co-producer and songwriter of the album.

Arranger, producer and multi-instrumentalist Nicky Scorpio says of the record, “The sound this duo brings is groovy and fun while sending a message of positivity and transformation. The vision of the music is to celebrate the imperfect journey of life and to show the truth and connection that we all share.”

Asked to elaborate on the themes of their new record, The Sophisticated Psychos write: “A smile. A new belief. A need to share this with a friend or family member going through a tough time or someone in need of unconditional Self-Love. Our message is the power of healthy love through music. The Sophisticated Psychos are promoting mental health awareness through music, art and expression.”

The concept of “unconditional self-love” plays a central role in the songwriting of “Take Us Home.”

“Our album is sharing Unconditional Self-Love,” write The Sophisticated Psychos. “So important, rarely discussed. Weird beliefs around this subject. We want to bring more light to self care, self education and empowerment. How to love ourselves more, appreciate everything that is US and to be kinder to ourselves; to know the importance of abuse, how to heal ourselves from the PTSD and trauma we all share.”

The group goes so far as to say the teaching of unconditional self love is the founding principle of the record.

“We birthed this music to inspire people to create,” they write, “to always think BIGGER, and to know the power of vulnerability, which in today's society is very outside the box. From our hearts and experiences to yours.”

JBarrera releases official single 'Seduceme'

The singer and songwriter of Latin reggaeton and hip hop known as JBarrera has released his latest official single, “Seduceme.” The track has been proudly published as an independent release without the direction of the corporate music industry. Mellow, grooving, and coasting on an urban reggaeton beat that will make fans of listeners everywhere, “Seduceme” proves JBarrera can dish fresh jams with the best of them.

JBarrera cites as main artistic influences Kalimba, Daddy Yankee, J Balvin, and Drake. His own sound melds styles from contemporary artists in South, Central and North America, and from the late 20th and 21st centuries. Developing an idea of what JBarrera's repertoire will sound like will need to wait, however, because “Seduceme” represents only the first glimpse from his upcoming debut LP record.

Also adding to the flavor of “Seduceme” is the exotic locale in which it was recorded and produced. JBarrera specifically went to Medellin, Colombia for the studio that would give him the sound he wanted. This makes sense, as JBarrera has deep Latin roots.

“I was born on November 5th in Arlington, VA,” he writes, “but was raised in Guatemala for almost 17 years.”

JBarrera has made music in the hip hop, R-n-B and dancehall genres, but that's not what his “Seduceme” is about.

“My music influence, it's always been urban reggaeton, hip hop dancehall,” says JBarrera. “Right now I'm releasing 'Seduceme,' the single of my first album which is coming soon. Most of the producing was made in Colombia. I hope everybody likes it.”

The Latin singer's relationship with music is a deeply personal one.

“I love music,” he says, “especially if I can express what I feel through it.”

JBarrera parts with his trademark quote, an uplifting inspirational line he is known to utter every chance he gets.

“Never give up.”

“Seduceme” by JBarrera is available online worldwide soon.

Hip hop artist D'Amor releases new EP album 'Gabian Ziwo'

The artist and producer of hip hop known as D'Amor has released his latest EP album, “Gabian Ziwo.” The EP contains six original D'Amor hip hop tracks for an approximate total listening time of 25 minutes. It has been proudly published as an independent music release without the direction of the corporate music industry. Seamlessly blending elements of hip hop and R 'n' B for a mellow groove and a solid back beat, “Gabian Ziwo” makes a fine introduction to this intriguing artist from Orlando, Florida.

D'Amor cites as main artistic influences John Legend, Tevin Campbell, Jazmine Sullivan, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, and Jay-Z. His own style takes the most integral qualities of modern hip hop and dresses them up in a classy, cosmopolitan delivery that will appeal to fans of pop, hip hop, drum and bass and R 'n' B alike.

“My album is unique,” writes D'Amor of his new record. “It's a different type of project than most. It's called Gabian Ziwo meaning 'alter-ego' in Chinese.”

A multifaceted performer onstage and in the studio, D'Amor's qualities as a writer, singer and rap artist emerge in “Gabian Ziwo” in such a way as to prove his name will circulate in indie music circles in 2018 and beyond.

“Because I can sing and rap, I showcase those two sides in this project while expressing the ups and downs we all go through in a relationship,” D'Amor says. “Sometimes you feel unappreciated, and like the person you're with doesn't really love you like they say they do. It's like an in-and-out affect. One minute they love you, then they act like they don't. It's confusing relationships like that I know many can relate to. And I display that on this EP.”

D'Amor hails from the hip-hop homeland of Brooklyn, NY and lives now in Orlando, FL. His debut mixtape, “Somethin 4 Da Summa” currently has circa 16,000 plays on SoundCloud and counting. Several singles from D'Amor are available for sampling and purchase at digital music stores everywhere.

Gothtronica artist Viii releases new singles 'Threadfear' and 'Ask Me to Stay'

The producer of goth-toned electronica known as Viii has released his most recent pair of singles, “Threadfear / Ask Me to Stay.” The twin release has been proudly published on the Voodoo Creation Records independent music label without the direction of the corporate music industry. Pensive, brooding and thrumming with dark energy, “Threadfear / Ask Me to Stay” is the newest reason for fans of electronica to take note of this ever-rising artist from New Zealand.

Viii (pronounced Vee) cites as main artistic influences Maynard James Keenan (Tool, A Perfect Circle) Crosses, Banks, Nine Inch Nails, Portishead, Massive Attack, and Prince. His own bleak, yet lush and high-tech style will appeal to fans of these, perhaps particularly where Massive Attack and the Bristol sound are concerned.

In keeping with his ongoing tradition, the B-side of “Threadfear / Ask Me to Stay” is a cover by Etta Bond and Raf Riley with additional lyrics by Viii, himself.

“I wanted to cover one of Etta's songs because her music has helped me through many difficult times,” writes Viii, “especially with heartbreak. It seemed like a fitting choice for this to accompany Threadfear.”

“Threadfear,” the original half of the release, stands tall amid the rest of Viii's repertoire, popular and successful though they have been. Viii has described it as “a conversation held in both the past and present.”

“The first verse/chorus speaks about being aware of issues within self when entering a relationship and asking for understanding around them,” Viii writes. “But then the partner preys upon them and leaves behind further issues. The second verse/chorus jumps ahead in time and speaks about how the issues left by the past relationship have caused problems in relationships since the one previously mentioned.”

Both at his home nation of New Zealand and abroad, Viii has a reputation for taking characteristics from his eclectic musical background and creating a broad palette with them to paint interesting and unique sonic imagery.

“Threadfear / Ask Me to Stay” by Viii on Voodoo Creation Records is available from over 600 quality digital music retailers online worldwide now. Get in early, goth-electronica fans.
