Pi Castillo releases debut dubstep single 'The Most Beautiful Girl'

The composer of electronic music known as Pi Castillo has released his debut dubstep single, “The Most Beautiful Girl.” The track has been released on the Mind-Over-Matter Records label. It has been circulating online lists and EDM blogs since its appearance on May 15 of 2014, and has garnered thousands of listens where it has been featured in that short time. Pi Castillo's “The Most Beautiful Girl” stands out from the ever-growing sea of EDM online for its distinctive 8-bit panache and inspired melody lines. It has also been lauded as having some of the best female vocals in electronic music for 2014 so far.

Pi Castillo cites as main artistic influences such popular musicians as Dave Clarke, Westbam, DJ Misjah, and Carl Cox, but his overall feel and tone are all him. Comparisons between Castillo and other dubstep artists are hard to make, outside of the digitized industrial sounds for which the genre is recognized in general. This is because Castillo's music carries enough attributes from pre-dubstep electronica to make him attractive to listeners of artists such as Fat Boy Slim, Chemical Brothers, and other early pioneers, while retaining all the important qualities that have made dubstep so very popular.

“It's a mix of dubstep, electro, and trap,” the artist writes of his debut. Asked to expand on the lyrical themes of the single, he quips modestly, “It's just another dubstep track :).”

Clearly, the dubstep community agrees that it's much more than that.

Ecamburn at KVRAudio.com writes of Castillo's debut single, “Much to like in this tune. Strong melodies. Very clear structure and direction throughout. The vocals are solid. I like the dubstep elements because they are more understated and subtle than a lot of dubstep tunes. The chorus with the simple bassline and vox is cool.”

Martin and Oscar, junior members at SonicAcademy.com, write, “[Pi Castillo goes] from Avicii in the beginning to Dubstep-Dada Life in the chorus – that's impressive!”

Chinese-German music producer Pi Castillo hails from Hamburg, Germany. He has been making music since the age of 15, when he bought his first synthesizer. “I've been totally addicted to music production my whole life,” he writes.

The Golden Rule release debut EP 'These Shoes'

Chicago rock trio the Golden Rule have released their debut EP, “These Shoes.” The record comprises five original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 25 minutes. It has been published on the City Mice Records independent music label. A legitimate example of the 1990s alternative rock sound, written and recorded nearly 25 years after the hard-to-pin-down style first appeared, “These Shoes” introduces the Golden Rule as one of the most intriguing and infectious new bands this side of the millennium.

The Golden Rule calls Chicago home. Asked to cite some artistic influences, they draft a long and distinguished list: Nirvana, Dinosaur Pile-Up, Stereophonics, Pure Love, Biffy Clyro, ZZ Top, Sublime, the Black Keys, AC/DC, Ramones, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Alice in Chains, Zakk Wylde, Slash, Velvet Revolver, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Bush.

Remarkably, their sound manages to not only retain its own unique character but also to recall the general feel of bands not in this capacious lineup. There's some Gin Blossoms in there (but harder than that) and some Weezer (but less poppy). Dinosaur Jr. comes to mind, as does the work of '90s-era punk bands like Down by Law. In the end, the listener is forced to admit: the Golden Rule sounds like the Golden Rule – and since their brand of rock is aimed at nothing but fun, really, this seems implausible. Yet, there you have it.

Golden Rule singer-songwriter Mohit Mehta has clear ideas regarding the themes of their music.

“My dreams, fears and fantasies have long inspired me,” he writes, “and that’s what I’m trying to bring: inspiration! Get out and do what you love. Don’t fixate on the past, no matter how much it hurts. Dream, breathe, look, live, be alive! If you want to watch TV all day (or listen to my album all day), go for it, just remember the consequences.”

Lyrically speaking, “These Shoes” draws from the ups and the downs, but even the darkest moment is laced with the promise of good times. To listen to the EP is to wish the Golden Rule were live onstage before the listener. Energy pours from it, mellowed by having been recorded not at all.

“Remember that you might get another day to live,” Mehta concludes, “but today is the only one that really matters. To quote the wisest homeless guy I know (on the Ashland Pink Line Stop), 'Boy, you get less than 35,000 days to live and breathe on this Earth. Make sure you sing for all of them.'”

The Heavy Hearts release debut LP 'Keep Your Light On'

The folk-rock trio known as the Heavy Hearts have released their long-awaited debut LP record, “Keep Your Light On.” The album comprises 13 original tracks, making for a comprehensive introduction to this much-talked-about group from Birmingham, AL. Heralding the arrival of their album is the official Heavy Hearts “Into the Fire” video, already available, filmed in Birmingham’s historic Lyric Theatre (link provided below). Soul-searching, sonorous and soaked in pain and perseverance in equal parts, “Keep Your Light On” by the Heavy Hearts represents both a definitive example of contemporary folk music and the continuing tradition of American songwriting.

The Heavy Hearts cite as main artistic influences Fleetwood Mac, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, the Civil Wars, Aretha Franklin, Billie Holiday, Lady Antebellum, Johnny Cash, and Bruce Springsteen. The resulting sound is based on the striking, clarion vocals of frontwoman Lauren-Michael Sellers, and equally on the rock-toned guitar work of Zac Baldwin. Providing contrast, texture, and cement-solid percussion is Brian Hippensteel, the band's latest addition. Their style is a blend of blues and folk music tinged with alternative rock sensibilities which appeals to fans of pop, rock, country, blues, and folk music alike.

The band has enjoyed a remarkable burst of exposure and popularity in recent months, at least partially from their reputation as a passionate, powerful group of musicians whose music tends toward the sorrowful. Their band name, the Heavy Hearts, is no accident.

“A lot of the songs Lauren wrote are about very sad and personal experiences,” says Hippensteel, “but there is always hope and light at the end of it all. The theme of 'Keep Your Light On' is to shine through the darkness.”

Their official bio states that “the band refuses to leave their listeners without a chance to realize that hardships refine a person, not define them.”

Sellers herself writes, “We want people to know that just because our band is called the Heavy Hearts, we don’t want our fans to leave feeling helpless. We are optimistic and trying to find peace. We don’t want to be depressing and only concern ourselves with things that are sad or morbid.”

The LP is intended as an anthem of hope, in fact.

“The album is this theme of a lighthouse shining light in the darkness,” Hippensteel told Mary Colurso for AL.com.

Morbid or not, the success of both their “Into the Fire” video and recent record release party cannot be ignored. These musicians are pulling the heartstrings of music fans all across the nation. With the publication of “Keep Your Light On,” their already burgeoning and loyal fan base can only grow worldwide.

“Keep Your Light On” by the Heavy Hearts will be available online worldwide late May/early June 2014. Get in early.

Demented Son releases single, video and official app, ‘You Gotta Fit in Here’

The songwriter and performer known as Demented Son has released his newest single, “You Gotta Fit in Here.” The single has been released as an LP containing seven disparate editions, including “Video Live Version,” “Hip-Hop Remix,” “Blurry Rap,” “Echo Rap,” “EDM Mix” and “Hard-Rock Mix” versions. In addition to the musical talents of Demented Son, himself, these tracks also feature the skills of Earl Powell, Devlin Black, and Revolver of Cobaine, respectively. The album has an approximate total listening time of half an hour and has been proudly published on the Demented Son records music label.

Demented Son cites as main artistic influences Jay-Z, Madonna, Eminem, Drake, Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs, Miley Cyrus, Pink, and Justin Timberlake. His own style is a blend of the best attributes of these pop legends, though the broad range of musical variation on the “You Gotta Fit in Here” collection showcases him as an elastic and highly variable performer. The album is commonly categorized online as pop, dance, and electronica music.

An uproariously humorous single, “You Gotta Fit in Here” by Demented Son has female derrieres for a central theme. Running counter to the “Baby Got Back” craze of 1992 and Jennifer Lopez's upcoming track, “Big Booty,” which she reportedly recorded at the behest of her twins, “You Gotta Fit in Here” demands that a woman's behind ought to fit between splayed hands – “Thumbs together, pinkies out,” as the song describes.

Asked to expand on the focus of his new record and single, Demented Son writes, “[The point is] that it's OK, great even, to have a small a--. The words to my song are more important than the genre. That's why I have seven different versions with more to come.”

These tracks weren't planned in the beginning, however.

“Like everything else I do by accident,” he says, “I wrote a song that means something to me. I originally couldn't find someone to sing it the way I wanted, so I sang the first version myself.”

A little time and a lot of effort later, “You Gotta Fit in Here” has been published as a series of single tracks, an official corresponding video, and even an official application available for smart phones everywhere (links provided below).

Demented Son writes, “Anybody can make anything happen if you put your heart and soul into it.”

The Tables Turned feat. Armstrong release video single 'Ro Sham Bo'

The multi-talented music crew known as the Tables Turned have released their newest official video single, “Ro Sham Bo.” The track is a funk song with old-school hip hop in its bones, the video for which showcases the Tables Turned as purveyors and masters of both. In addition to the extensive talents of the Tables Turned, themselves, “Ro Sham Bo” features Armstrong delivering snappy, up-front vocals. The video and single have been published on the Activity Entertainment music label. Energetic and uplifting with an unstoppable back beat, “Ro Sham Bo” is rhythm and groove that fans of any genre can get behind.

The Tables Turned (who take their name from 'turntable' and use a 45 adapter as their logo) have a pared-down, sparse quality to their songwriting which is deceptively rich and complex in tone. This gives them a full and warm sound on “Ro Sham Bo” while the song itself revolves around a simple, infectious horn sample carrying the tune. There's a hint of jazz in the way the trumpet falls away at the end of each phrase.

“We have diverse backgrounds and we share eclectic tastes,” write the Tables Turned. “Jimmy Moreno and DJ No Shame play in a band named Gonzo together. Gonzo has nine guys, including Michael Klooster [Smash Mouth]. Jimmy Moreno and DJ No shame decided they would like to form a project similar to Gonzo, but with a base of three band members along with guest artists.”

Their cited influences include artists from the rock, funk, experimental, hip-hop, and jazz genres. Narrowing these to specifics, Parliament Funkadelic, Devo, Victor Wooten, Fela Kuti, and J Dilla emerge as key notables.

The themes of “Ro Sham Bo” are lighthearted and devil-may-care, the song being named after the rochambeau game, often called Rock, Paper, Scissors in America.

“The message that the video conveys is, we all have our failures but we must rise each time we fall,” writes the band. “Sometimes you just need to trust fate in making life's decisions.”

The “Ro Sham Bo” video by the Tables Turned is available online worldwide beginning 25 May 2014.

Tom Oprendek releases new LP 'Storm Comin''

The singer and songwriter of rock music known as Tom Oprendek has released his latest LP album, “Storm Comin'.” The record is composed of 11 original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 40 minutes. Categorized variously as pop, folk-pop, folk-rock and indie-pop music, the record features songs penned and composed in the classic American style and masterful rock performances.

Asked to cite some main artistic influences, Oprendek mentions that his inspirations come from “folk and folk-rock/pop songwriters” in general.

“My father worked at the Capitol Records record pressing plant in Scranton, PA in the '60s and '70s and he would bring home copies of the records Capitol was pressing at the time,” he writes. “I was exposed to an eclectic mix of folk, country, rock, pop, world and swing/jazz music from a very early age.”

Oprendek mentions Nat "King" Cole, Sam Cooke, Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, the Kingston Trio, the Beatles, the Band, Trini Lopez, Joe South, Count Basie, and Hank Williams.

“Touring the record plant sparked my interest in the whole process of composing and recording music.”

Records aside, however, Oprendek became particularly enthusiastic about the film biography of Hank Williams, “Your Cheating Heart.”

“I was so impressed by Hank William's ability to write songs that I wanted to become a songwriter,” he says.

The themes of “Storm Comin'” are romantic in nature, but not syrupy. This fits well with the album's tone, which is folk at heart with a classic-rock sound.

“The album title,” writes Oprendek, “is also the name of one of the songs on the album. 'Storm Comin'' is a metaphor for change or, more precisely, the anxious moments of uncertainty in anticipation of a change and prior to fully embracing the change. This feeling of uncertainty and anxiety prior to embracing the change can occur in many situations whether it's a change within a relationship, taking a moral or political stand or advocating for social justice issues.”

In addition to the skills of Tom Oprendek, himself, “Storm Comin'” features the talents of Jerry Cortez, Steve Riley, and Kincaid Miller.

Nicko Bellic releases self-titled album 'Bellic'

The composer and producer of electronic music known as Nicko Bellic has released his new, self-titled album, “Bellic.” The record comprises nine original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 40 minutes. It has been proudly released independent of support from the corporate music industry on the NickoBellic Music record label. It is Bellic's most significant official release to date and currently represents the definitive Nicko Bellic LP album.

Bellic's official Facebook page cites as his “favorite” music acts Deadmau5, the Expendables, Faithless, and Cypress Hill. These do not give a round understanding of his own sound, however. The music included on “Bellic” is soaked in jazz, blues and drum 'n' bass, with an overarching basis on electronica. His tones are reminiscent of Moby's titanic “Play” record, in that the “Bellic” LP is endlessly classy, cool, and smooth. Fans of electronic music from before the dubstep craze will find a good friend in the Nicko Bellic record.

Bellic hails from the oft-underrated music hotbed of Salt Lake City, Utah. He has been an outspoken advocate for independent music and liberal digital distribution. His fans are likewise outspoken as well as loyal, drawn to his creative use of instrumentation, back beats, and cleverly chosen samples. The high production value of “Bellic” shows clearly that his talent for working out a melody line is paired also with ample chops as a studio engineer.

Previous to the present release of “Bellic,” Nicko Bellic was known for his collaboration with WorthIsBorn and DopeThought, DropInOcean, which was published on the SLC-based MakeMind record label. In contrast to the groovy, brass-filled tunes of his self-titled LP, DropInOcean has built a reputation for their rare blend of R 'n' B, EDM and hip-hop music, many of the best attributes have been carried into his solo project.

Catherine Parks releases debut single 'Young Girls'

The singer and songwriter known as Catherine Parks has released her debut R 'n' B single, “Young Girls.” The track has been released on the Blue Chip City Records music label. Cool, blue, passionate and smooth, “Young Girls” will appeal to fans of jazz, blues and R 'n' B alike, and stands to place Catherine Parks beside some of the best singers in the scene overnight.

Catherine Parks cites only Lauren Hill and Michael Jackson as artistic influences, and while the clarity and precision of Parks' singing is reminiscent of Lauren Hill's, she has a sultry sound on “Young Girls” which would have fit well in jazz and blues clubs of the 1940s and '50s. Her measured cadence and breathless intonation give her a class and style which cannot be faked and is rare to find.

The themes of her first single are romantic in nature. “Young Boys say they love you – just for fun,” one lyric runs.

Speaking of the themes of her song, Parks writes, “The song’s positive message encourages 'Young Girls' everywhere to 'Keep on Believing,' and to wait for the right guy who will appreciate you. And above all — believe in yourself because you are 'Good Enough.'”

Catherine Parks' official bio describes her as an American singer-songwriter based in Ohio. She has been writing songs since the age of 12. Her father's substance abuse problem forced her to move regularly, and she attended more than eight schools in Ohio. She credits this with giving her sound depth of character.

“Moving a lot allowed me the opportunity to meet all different types of people and live in more than one type of environment,” she writes. “These real-life experiences have inspired some of the best lyrics I’ve ever written.”

Parks has written songs for the pop, R 'n' B, alt-rock, and country music genres. Her debut EP album is scheduled for release soon in 2014.

This amalgam is further augmented by Cidic Sol's musical culture, which has its origins in Ghana, Africa.

Speaking of his start in music, Cidic Sol's representative writes that he began by performing “his own songs backed by old hip-hop tracks which steered from a boarding school fresher’s initiation in sixth form whilst reading sciences in the Volta region of Ghana.”

The themes of “Obaa” are playfully romantic in nature, though not dramatic. Speaking of this, Cidic Sol writes, “Obaa (Woman) talks about how the pressures of life make us make different choices to please others, but at some point we have to take a break to look at what we really want.”

The artist, who now lives in England, writes of his music career in the UK thus:

“Cidic Sol was a young artist who had a deep love and affection for music and all that it had to offer. Performing at the National Theatre, fashion shows and Guinness-sponsored talent shows earned him management, although short lived due to the call of education.

“Life really started in London for Cidic Sol as he hooked up with various artists and producers heightening his senses and homing in on his hidden love of something different. The love of Hip Hop, Reggae, Rnb and Nu Soul was soon to be fashioned into his own interpretations...

“With an ever-evolving music industry that is now becoming more accessible the plan was to learn develop and move forward. Writing and recording was next on his list working with a few different engineers and producers, however it had not always been easy being understood creatively. It was inevitable that he would get drawn to a producer by the name of Patric Mclean (Dark Chambers), at Brickworx Studios, the home of CS Gas Records. Together they embarked on developing and the production of Cidic-Sol’s EP, 'Dialect,' merging his mother tongue and the journey of his influences so far.

“As Cidic Sol plans his next project with the BrumTown Hit Factory, surely another great contribution is set to follow.”

A contemporary R 'n' B song with classic inspirations, “I Would” is certain to enthuse fans of rhythm and blues, cool jazz and soul music alike.

Anthony D. Harrison cites as main artistic influences such legends of yesteryear as Marvin Gaye, Luther Vandross, Aretha Franklin, Earth Wind and Fire, and Cameo. His signature style is a refreshing return to the golden-voiced era of original R 'n' B artists, when the sound was still being forged and listeners around the world were being moved in ways music had never accomplished before.

“I Would” is a track which seeks to ease the troubles of impoverished and downtrodden people everywhere. Speaking of the themes of the single, Harrison writes, “This single is a song dedicated to the whole world, about how we wish we could help everyone in need in some small way – through a beautiful song.”

Harrison's own sound is supported by songwriter and musician, Elroy “Thaproduca” Jackson, through whose pen “I Would” was created specifically for Harrison's voice. The duo promise also to publish a third original single track, “Happy Anniversary,” in June of 2014. Official videos for both “I Would” and “Happy Anniversary” are already available to the public for viewing online.

“Anthony Harrison now resides in Texas, and a few years ago he was introduced to a writer/lyrist, and song producer by the name of Elroy Jackson 'Thaproduca' as he is called by friends in the music industry. A friendship quickly was formed and the approach both these men was fond of in music was incredibly the same.

“Thaproduca wrote the songs and Anthony sang them. The partnership blossomed and now both are ready to bring back the smooth, sultry, harmonic sounds of yesterday with a blend of today.
'I Would' is the third release from Anthony D. Harrison with many more to come.”

Once Was There releases new LP 'Eternal Sunshine'

The music project known to fans only as Once Was There has released a new LP record, “Eternal Sunshine.” An entirely independent release, the album has been proudly published without support of the corporate music industry. It is composed of 11 original tracks for a full hour's worth of listening. Described variously as indie, lo-fi, glo-fi, electronica and UK rock, “Eternal Sunshine” by Once Was There stands as a perfect example of how the new era of rock composers are taking the music back.

Once Was There cites as main artistic influences several legendary bands, including Oasis, Radiohead, Kasabian and Chemical Brothers, as well as a few celebrated newcomers such as Tame Impala, Sun Glitters, and MillionYoung. While the music principles of Once Was There cleave to the super-modern sensibilities of the latter, the sound of “Eternal Sunshine” sounds largely inspired by the former. Fans of Brit Pop will be enthusiastic, as will fans of chillout rock and electronica.

Asked to describe the intended overall theme of the album, Once Was There writes, “That when someone listens to music, they make it into their own experience and meaning. So, one song can have millions of meanings and content; just depends on who is listening!”

The official Once Was There website [link provided below] describes the “Eternal Sunshine” LP with the following:

“Once Was There: A musical journey of Melodic-Harmony Space Rock sound that carries the listener through a smooth forward momentum- from intro-spective to extro-spective and back again.
Fundamental components include catchy and soothing guitar-key loops, combined with multi-vocal chorus lines to hypnotize the senses.

“Deep Groov-a-tronic bass runs are sprinkled and carved into the moving space that takes the listener along side your tour guide vocalist to make sense or no-sense of our eco-morphogenic-sphere of consciousness.

“Put your headphones on, and stay for a while…

Crank up the V.

Let us 'Take -You- There.'

Lydia Kinsey releases debut extended-play album, 'The EP'

The singer and songwriter known as Lydia Kinsey has released her debut record, an extended-play soul release simply titled, “The EP.” It is comprised of five original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 20 minutes. It has been published on the GB&R record label. A jazzy, feminine and sonorous album with sterling production and remarkable performances, “The EP” by Lydia Kinsey proves that the UK's oft-overlooked soul scene still produces some of the world's most powerful and evocative singers.

England's Lydia Kinsey cites as main artistic influences Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, Eva Cassidy, Melody Gardot, Rachelle Ferrell, and Lianne La Havas. Intuitively, her own sound is classy, elegant, and a tad sly. Her selections on “The EP” are suitable for a wide range of listening circumstances, and would fit nicely with a playlist featuring performers such as Erykah Badu and Jill Scott.

Asked to relate the overall message of her record, Kinsey writes that “We are in control of our own behaviour and destiny and we can create change. We should love and be a positive influence on those around us.”

Lydia Kinsey has been singing all her life, and began performing onstage with her church youth band. She began collaborating with Dagroovestation while studying her A-Levels. Her university work at Exeter halted this project briefly, but she returned to sing with Dagroovestation at her earliest opportunity. Straightaway their live shows began to stack, beginning with a performance at Scream Lounge for a BBC-3 documentary, “Baby Bomb,” a show at White Lion, then a live gig on Croyden radio.

Supported by Marley J Wills and producer Manifest, Kinsey hits the studio twice weekly to work on her solo material. Her official bio speaks as highly of her lyrical themes as it does of her vocal tone and timbre.

“The soul is about to be put back into the UK soul-music scene,” it reads, “a scene that until now has unfortunately been populated by a mass of beats and gimmicks used to hide the message-less and disposable. Lydia and Dagroovestation agree that for this to change we must first provide a message, a reason for our audience to care about what is being said. [Lydia's] is an honest point of view that doesn’t just point out what’s wrong, but instead offers possible solutions and remedies for the ills that plague our society.”

Jessamyn releases new EP 'Songs of the Living'

The singer and songwriter known as Jessamyn has released her latest EP album, “Songs of the Living.” The record is composed of six original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 20 minutes. It has been released on the Golden Hammer Records music label. It is her most significant official release since her 2012 collaboration LP, “Ghost and Door Party.” A bright, uplifting collection of contemporary folk rock music from one of the best-kept secrets in the genre, “Songs of the Living” stands as evidence that Jessamyn has plenty of sonic heart and soul to go around.

Jessamyn cites as main artistic influences the Beatles, Joni Mitchell, Tori Amos, Iris Dement, and Rich Mullins. Of these, her vocal timber most resembles a cross between Mitchell and Amos, while her songwriting resonates with the classic patterns of Dement. Her rhythms groove mildly and pleasantly, with more swing than Iris Dement but less aggression than the edgier work of the others. The result is a unique, gentle tone and writing style which is Jessamyn's own.

Lyrical themes on “Songs of the Living” are largely personal in nature, never melodramatic or overwrought. Asked to enlarge upon her inspirations for the record, she writes,

“I'm not sure there's a single message. I suppose if I was to identify a constant on this EP, it's that most of these songs were written from a place of deep searching.”

Jessamyn's first foray into music was as a drummer, which she began at seven years old. She played for bands throughout her high school career, picking up piano and guitar along the way. Her collaboration with singer-songwriter, guitarist and priest, Fr. Charles Klamut, has been described as existential alt-folk music.

“The past few years have been particularly fruitful for me as a songwriter,” says Jessamyn. “I plan to release in the near future several of the dozens of songs I have recently penned.”

Wounded Ego Records releases new LP 'I Do'

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –

The music label known as Wounded Ego Records has released their new, signature LP collection of original songs, “I Do.” The new album is comprised of 15 tracks for an approximate total listening time of 44 minutes. A cavalcade of talent and creativity that is certain to solidify Wounded Ego's place in today's modern, independent music industry, “I Do” features the talents of several acclaimed musicians and performers, including David Steele, Nori Kelley, Lydia Salnikova, B. Sterling, and Bill and Connie Ross.

“I Do” from Wounded Ego Records is commonly categorized as pop music and adult contemporary listening, but is decorated with elements of many other genres which make up its highly textured nature. Many of country music's best attributes are peppered throughout the full-length album, particularly in the case of “Connie Connie Connie,” which can be considered the B-side to the album's title track. “Connie...” is performed by Bill and Connie Ross themselves (married for more than 27 years) and joined by Nori Kelley.

The title track, “I Do,” is performed by Grammy-Award Nominee Lydia Salnikova with Nori Kelley and B. Sterling. It is a matrimonial anthem with country overtones, which theme has been sadly wanting in country/western circles for a surprising amount of time, making the title an appropriate and welcome addition to the genre. The inimitable David Steele appears on the record's opening track as well as on four additional songs.

The songs of “I Do” were written by Bill Ross working closely with Nori Kelley on arrangements.

Ross cites as main artistic inspirations the Beatles, CSNY, Sting, Bach, Fanny Crosby, and Rodgers and Hammerstein. Of these, the influence of CSNY is especially notable, lending a certain classic-rock/folk-music tinge to the overall project, polishing its character to a high shine.

“I Do” presages several other Bill Ross / Wounded Ego projects to come. This is notably so in the case of “The Transcontinental Is on Its Way,” the LP's closing track, which is planned for inclusion in his upcoming, collaborative musical set in the USA's Reconstruction period following the American Civil War.

Bay Deep and Yungn Will release new single 'Hit'It'

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –

The rappers and producers of hip hop known as Bay Deep and Yungn Will have released their latest single, “Hit'It.” The track is the most significant official release from the duo in recent months. It has been published on the Gas League Ent. record label. With a sound that mixes the West Coast sound with trappings of old school and contemporary underground hip hop, “Hit'It” by Bay Deep and Yungn Will is a statement to the urban music scene worldwide: these hip-hop heroes have arrived.

Bay Deep and Yungn Will cite as main artistic influences Tupac Shakur, E40, Messy Marv, Mac Dre, Meek Mill, Cash Money Records,Ti , and Wiz Khalifa. As might be imagined, their own sound is a grab bag of the best attributes of these legends, with a healthy dose of Bay-Area beatdown.

“Bay Deep got started by freestyling, battle rapping, ghost-writing, then remixing songs in high school,” they write. “Yungn Will always had a knack for music. It's been a passion from freestyles on the blocks where I grew up or was living at the time, 'til I was actually making music.”

Their closing statement says it all. “Yeah, we love music. We're solo artists from the Bay Area. We decided to come together and make some anthems.”

And anthems they have made. Asked to describe the themes of their new single, “Hit'It,” they make a list of descriptions and party necessities: “Get money; come with the best-looking women; real music; deep lyrics; club anthems,” and, of course, “#TurnUp.”

Bay Deep and Yungn Will hail from California's Bay Area, from where Bay Deep gets his name.

“I have multiple styles of rapping and recording music,” Deep writes. “Always considered myself a future millionaire. Now it's happening. 23, now I'm ready to take over. I didn't drop out of Stanford for no reason.”

Yungn Will recalls his youth in Central CA.

“I grew up rough out there in them cities. I'm using music as a way out for my feelings and emotions. I'll deliver on every track so you feel it, so you know it's real.”

“Hit'It” by Bay Deep and Yungn Will is available online everywhere beginning April 9, 2014.

The Steersmen release debut LP 'High-Tech Low Lifes'

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –

The Steersmen have released their debut LP record, “High-Tech Low Lifes.” The album contains 11 original tracks for 35 minutes' listening time. It has been released on the Blue Morpho Recordings music label. Part indie, part psychedelic and part shoegaze rock, “High-Tech Low Lifes” stands as the definitive Steersmen record and heralds the beginning of what is sure to be a long and storied music career.

The Steersmen cite as main artistic influences Cotton Mather, John Maus, and Deerhunter. Certain attributes of each make up the groovy, sonic amalgam that is the Steersmen sound, but none so much as Cotton Mather. Followers of the legendary indie group will be greatly enthused to hear “High-Tech Low Lifes,” as will fans of Pink Floyd and John Bonham. Highly stylized, infused with retro frills and charged with that unmistakable shoegazer gravitas, “High-Tech Low Lifes” has a great deal of variety, complexity, and scope of emotion.

The band's official bio describes their album as having a “hazy, dream-like atmosphere, percussive and deep drums, and introspective lyrics.” The lyrics, in fact, deserve mention outside the context of their musical accompaniment. Rhyme schemes on “High-Tech...” are often carried consistently throughout entire tracks. Multisyllabic word matches are the norm from song to song, producing a hypnotic effect that deceptively begins to feel usual. Come for the music; stick around for the striking wordplay.

The Steersmen are a duo from Chicago, IL. Their first official release, an EP titled “Later That Night,” continues to garner positive reviews in the looming shadow of their debut full-length record. Speaking of the themes of “High-Tech Low Lifes,” they write,

“A lot of artists create as a way of expressing their feelings, but we sort of wanted to do the exact opposite of that on this record. It's really all about escapism and creating a mini, alternate reality inside the headphones.”

Mission (very) accomplished.

“High-Tech Low Lifes” by the Steersmen is available online worldwide beginning 11 April 2014. Get in early.

Selector Science releases new EP 'Receive On'

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –

The DJ, composer and producer of digital music known as Selector Science has released his new EP record, “Receive On.” The album is comprised of four tracks for an approximate total listening time of 20 minutes. It has been published on the War Cry Records music label. Upbeat, fun, and endlessly danceable, “Receive On” is one of the most colorful EDM records of 2014 to date.

Selector Science cites as main artistic influences Vibe Squad, Figure, and Diplo. His particular style is unlike anything fans of electronic dance music have heard before, however, uniquely spacious and unpredictable. His official bio describes his sound as glitchy and dreamy, spontaneous and intense, full of “discordant blasts, surprising transitions, and clever turns” – all of which is absolutely true. Perhaps most of all, his music is communication.

“I want to connect to the people and have them open up,” says Selector Science. “They're the
entertainment.”

Asked to describe the record's main theme, he speaks of liberation and empowerment. His EP is composed and produced with the intent to give dancers the “Freedom to be their true selves. And to shake their asses like nobody's watching.”

Selector Science relates that he began his music career at the age of three, flipping records for his father. In time he began disc jockeying hip-hop and reggae music. He garnered the name “Science” from the state of his studio, filled with gadgets and equipment like a laboratory. The term 'selector' comes from Jamaica and means 'DJ.' This widely varied background adds complexity to his overall tone and feel, which brightly stand out against the homogeneity of the EDM genre.

“You gotta learn the rules to break the rules,” Selector Science says.

Science is currently working on an EP of remixes for the Grace Project, a non-profit organization which provides activities and travel for families with special-needs kids.

The “Receive On” EP by Selector Science is available online worldwide.
