Desert Sparrow releases debut EP 'Leave This Town'

The indie music duo known as Desert Sparrow have released their debut EP record, “Leave This Town.” The record comprises four original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 18 minutes. It has been proudly published as an independent release entirely without support of the corporate music infrastructure. A seamless blend of contemporary folk and old-fashioned, bluesy rock 'n' roll, “Leave This Town” is a raw and unadulterated serving of sound any music fan can get behind.

The heart and soul of Desert Sparrow are Kylie Adams and David Carreno. They cite as main artistic influences Fleetwood Mac, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Kings of Leon, and Angus and Julia Stone. This list of legendary groups does not add up to a round understanding of the Desert Sparrow style, however. Desert Sparrow are natural musicians in the truest sense of the word. Their undeniably great vocals and refreshingly tasteful instrumentation are merely ancillary qualities, the proverbial icing on the cake in light of startlingly solid songwriting that is (literally) packaged for play on public radio around the world.

The sense of Desert Sparrow simply going outside to enjoy themselves with a song or two and incidentally making a four-star album is palpable. This unassuming goodness is also reinforced by a characteristic humility that can't help but distinguish them in the land of competition that is Los Angeles. Asked to describe their start in music, this modesty is plain to see.

They write that they began by attending “Singer-songwriter nights for fun. Everybody around us kept hassling us saying that we needed to give the music business a shot.”

Asked to describe the underlying message of their first official album, Desert Sparrow explains that “The main theme of the EP is believing in your dreams. Don't let anything or anyone get you down. Get out there and make it happen. Don't conform because it's easy, be true to yourself.”

Stan Swanson releases new EP 'Driving Down to Eden'

The singer and songwriter known as Stan Swanson has released his latest EP record, “Driving Down to Eden.” The EP is composed of four original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 14 minutes. It has been proudly published as an independent release on the Stony Meadow Records music label. Generally found online listed in the contemporary folk category, Swanson's “Driving Down to Eden” is a purely American record colored brightly with earnest storytelling and a dash of rock 'n' roll.

That Swanson's music should fall into the folk genre makes sense. He lists as main artistic influences Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Patty Larkin, Bob Lind, and the Beatles. Like the best folk artists, however, his overall timbre is his own and he sounds like no one but himself. As a songwriter with decades of experience playing his own music, this also seems intuitive. Swanson began writing music at the age of 13 in the 1960s.

“I write songs that speak to me on a personal level,” he explains. “Some have deeper messages than others. I mean, every songwriter writes about falling in love as well as falling out of love. And, yes, I have written my fair share of those. But I also relate to the folk music of the sixties which was a great era for songs that had something special to say.”

Like some of the best loved folk tunes of that epoch, however, there's more to Swanson's sound than the traditional folk pattern.

“I am a very eclectic songwriter and although I feel my roots are in the folk genre, my songs take me in every direction possible.”

Swanson's inclination to diverge from typical modes of folk music is a reflection of his own multifaceted nature. While 'Driving Down to Eden” is his most widely distributed album to date, he is also the published author of several popular books available online.

Swanson writes, “I split most of my time between writing novels and performing. I have written eight books and am working on a couple more.”

Nevertheless, fiction can only satisfy his muse by so much.

“I've played in many groups and bands and then went solo for awhile. I left the music scene for several years, but that magical pull finally brought me back. There's nothing quite like it.”

Jeff Gray releases new single 'The Stories'

The composer and producer of electronic dance music known as Jeff Gray has released his latest single, “The Stories,” featuring Corey Friesenhan. The track has been proudly published as an independent release entirely without financial backing from the corporate music industry. Spacious and ethereal, rhythmic and buoyant, vivifying and full of drum 'n' bass, “The Stories” is a single which helps define the signature Australian EDM sound called Melbourne bounce.

The DJ from southeastern Australia cites as main artistic influences many of the world's most respected contemporary digital musicians, such as Avicci, Will Sparks, Calvin Harris, Joel Fletcher, SWM, TJR, and Reece Low. Gray's own style, however, is only tinted by such inspirations, having an overall color which takes its hue from the sonic culture of his locale.

After leaving the New South Wales Police Force, Gray began performing as a DJ all around the area's best dance clubs. His official bio states that “Jeff Gray earned his stripes at venues such as the Goulburn Workers Club, the Burns Club in Canberra, the Mittagong RSL Club and various other venues in Goulburn, the Southern Highlands, and the Australian Capital Territory.”

Gray picked up music at the age of seven, beginning with guitar. When the rest of his life got in the way of his music, it would take many years before working as a disc jockey for parties and clubs started his creative machinery whirling again.

“I enjoy playing and making music that makes me feel good,” he writes. “If I can replicate that feeling in others, then that's a bonus. Music should always be a visceral experience and I hope to invoke many different emotions with music I play and produce.”

Jeff Gray has been producing music now since 2011. His featured musician on “The Stories,” Corey Friesenhan, is a seasoned producer in his own right and will release the second volume of his popular vocal sessions collection, “Banshee,” in October of 2014.

La'Que releases new LP 'Who's Backstabbing Who?'

The veterans of R 'n' B music known as La'Que have released their latest LP record album, “Who's Backstabbing Who?” The album is composed of nine original songs for an approximate total listening time of 40 minutes. It has been released on the Walking Tall Records independent music label. Slick, sonorous, and irresistibly debonaire, “Who's Backstabbing Who?” is an album which can't help but revive the fire in the hearts of all who hear it.

La'Que cite as main artistic influences such notable performers as Anthony Hamilton, Paul McCartney, Maxwell, and the Temptations. Their signature, inimitable style is gilt with common qualities of all these, but retains that attribute which is perhaps most important to the groove and timbre of an R 'n' B record: that unmistakable Chicago sound.

With tracks written by longtime La'Que members Jimmy Lloyd and Terry Snodgrass, “Who's Backstabbing Who?” is a reminder of what made R 'n' B unforgettable in its golden era of the 1970s. Bedecked with strings, bass, three-part harmonies and impeccable lead vocals, La'Que's new album is easily superior to most of the rhythm and blues played regularly on today's public radio stations.

Speaking of the themes of their new LP, La'Que write that it is, “Very direct to its listeners. We make our music believable and to the point. Our titles of our songs are self-explanatory and very heartfelt and soulful.”

More than merely meaningful, however, “Who's Backstabbing Who?” has more boogie in its heels than James Brown at a Sunday service. Music fans who enjoy records by artists like the Four Tops, the Spinners, and Gladys Knight and the Pips are sure to be enthusiastic about this new LP from one of mid-western Chicago's most striking and unstoppable R 'n' B groups.

Frank Arnold releases new single 'World In Between'

The composer and producer of electronic music known as Frank Arnold has released his latest official single, “World In Between.” It has been published on the Galileo Dreams Recordings independent music label and is available at iTunes, Beatport, and everywhere good digital music is sold. Mellow, spacious, and populated with several undeniable melodic phrases, “World In Between” is a reminder of just how good modern electronic music can be.

German-born Berliner Frank Arnold cites as main artistic influences Enigma and Jean-Michel Jarre. He has also been quoted as preferring music by such composers as Astrix, Astral Projection, Infected Mushroom, Schiller, Above & Beyond, Kaskade, and ATB. Arnold's own music is often much more subdued than what is expected of the EDM genre, however. Billed on iTunes as electronic, ambient, and lounge music, Arnold's “World In Between” is perhaps best considered an example of what fans of electronic dance music often refer to as “chillout” music.

Frank Arnold has been playing music since the age of nine, at which age he discovered an accordion in his parents' flat. He took accordion lessons for many years before hearing Jean-Michel Jarre's seminal album, “Oxygen IV” on the radio. (Jarre has been entered into the Guinness Book of World Records four times for performing the largest concert ever; 3.5 million people attended his show in Moscow). After being inspired by Jarre, Arnold dedicated himself to the practice and production of electronic music.

Arnold began to focus on sound design and synthesis in the early '90s, producing several demo tapes which were ignored by record companies in that highly competitive and elitist era of professional music. He left off music production for software development until 2004, when he was exposed to Chicane, Enigma, and the talented trance artists of Israel's digital music underground. Since that time, Frank Arnold has been sculpting his own music style, which he considers to be an amalgam of ambient, trance, and pop music.

Tony Spades releases new single 'Standing There' feat. Lynia Love

The rapper and songwriter of hip hop known as Tony Spades has released his latest single, “Standing There,” featuring Lynia Love. An official music video for “Standing There” has also been released for viewing online. “Standing There” has been published on the FreedomBorn independent record label, which Spades co-founded in 1999 with fellow producer, recording artist and F.A.M. alumnus, Adychshun. Classy, slick and booming with drum 'n' bass, “Standing There” by Tony Spades is a new rap track with an old-school soul, and just what the scene has been looking for.

Tony Spades (also sometimes billed as Johnny Torch) cites as main artistic influences such legends as the Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z, Kool G. Rap, and Big Daddy Kane, all of whom hail from the original home of rap music, the American East Coast. As might be intuited, Spades' performance on “Standing There” presents the same clear-spoken, well-written and in-your-face delivery of lines and rhymes which first made the genre popular.

Writing about the general themes of his latest single, Tony Spades writes, “We all have people in life who don't have our best interests in mind. No matter how much they try to hide their intentions, we see them for who they really are.”

Backing Spades on the track is vocalist Lynia Love. Love is mainly known for her work as an actress and model based in Philadelphia, but performs admirably on Spades' new single. Her most recent film, “Love Him or Leave Him” was released mid- August 2014. Love also appears in the official music video for “Standing There” and has prominent roles in both the video and the single.

Tony Spades was raised in NYC's Brooklyn Borough and began his career as part of the pre-teen rap crew, M.O.B. (Masters of Brooklyn) in 1989. After performing live throughout his youth and young adulthood, Spades and Adychshun released F.A.M.'s debut album, “Hungry,” in 2009. Spades' “Standing There” is the most important official release from the artist since his solo debut single, “Respect Mine,” appeared in 2011 presented by Island Def Jam Records.

Vermin and the Beachrat release new EP 'My Fantasy'

The singer and songwriter known as Vermin and the Beachrat has released his latest EP record album, “My Fantasy.” The album is comprised of seven original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 25 minutes. It has been published as an independent release and is listed variously online under the country, alt-country, and Americana music genres. Stylish, eclectic, creative and rocking, “My Fantasy” by Vermin and the Beachrat is a new sound for the modern age with echoes of classic rock in its bones.

Vermin and the Beachrat cites as main artistic influences some of the best songwriters of rock 'n' roll, such as the Beatles, Neil Diamond, Led Zeppelin, John Fogerty, and the solo work of John Lennon. Vermin's own sound, however, is one which must be heard to be understood. A melodic mix of surf-rock tones and shadowy rockabilly singing, not unlike the vocals of Nick Cave crossed with those of Roy Orbison, is perhaps the EP's most striking quality. Consistently strong songwriting, too, places this album among Vermin and the Beachrat's best releases.

Speaking of the themes of the “My Fantasy” EP, Vermin and the Beachrat writes, “I'm an American singer-songwriter writing songs about love, hope, and dreams. My goal is to unite the world to work together through music.”

Vermin and the Beachrat is a veteran songwriter who wrote all the material for the Beachrats in the 1980s and '90s. After the members of that early group left for various reasons over time, Vermin kept his edge as many other musicians do around the world: he played in cover bands. Leaving the cover circuit to return to writing originals in 2009, Vermin and the Beachrat released a seven-song debut EP in 2010 titled “Crossing the Line.” The debut record is still available for preview and purchase online, but Vermin's sound doesn't fit the typical pigeonholes.

“I still haven't figured out the genre,” he writes. “Guess that's what makes my songs original. They are heartfelt songs. I call it beachrat music.”

Heru Khuti to release new singles 'Wimbledon Carnival,' 'Premier League,' and 'Fantastic Cricket.'

The music project known publicly as Heru Khuti is slated to release a trio of new singles, titled “Wimbledon Carnival,” “Premier League,” and “Fantastic Cricket” respectively. The tracks are to be distributed to over 750 online music stores around the world, representing what is most certainly the most significant official music release of Heru Khuti to date.

The Heru Khuti music project is the brainchild of Dr. Noel A. Campbell, PhD, who writes all the Heru Khuti material and governs the music from his website based in Birmingham, UK (link provided below). Asked to cite some main artistic influences, Dr. Campbell writes in the signature mystic fashion which is his own:

“The Creator have made natural, skills of art in me, that is the influences, the first man blessing to me, you called him God!”

Dr. Campbell has been writing and performing music since he was in the first of three armies, which martial time began more than two decades ago in 1993. Upon being asked to describe the general motifs, themes, and subjects his three new singles, “Wimbledon Carnival,” “Premier League,” and “Fantastic Cricket,” he again refers to his knowledge of esoteric wisdom unknown to the uninitiated. His response is faithfully reprinted below sic erat scriptum, exactly as Dr. Campbell laid them down.

“It shares the truth of present happiness, reality.
Who no me since 1993, share my views, that I don't differ from the first sentence above.
My message most time heal the pain and anger, that my listeners face day by day.”

Regarding the name of his music project, Heru Khuti is sometimes defined as the Principle of Divine Justice. The Ausar Auset Society in Hampton Roads, VA writes of Heru Khuti that “It is our responsibility to realize that Divine Protection is insured when we live in harmony with the Eleven Laws of God. Doing so provides us access to Divine Knowledge and Power, and the Courage always to utilize them.”

An official artist's bio is not to be found for Heru Khuti, however, and neither is there a Facebook page nor Twitter account associated. Dr. Campbell gives his respectable reasons openly.

“No,” he writes, “I wont write a bio until the world no about me in a special way; at this point, the world hardly no, that I exist. When the time is right, I'll do a perfect bio based on the acceptance of the world. For now I find something temporary to stand. A government never get into power without the peoples acceptance.”

“Wimbledon Carnival,” “Premier League,” and “Fantastic Cricket” by Heru Khuti will be distributed around the world in the near future.

Måns Williamson releases LP record 'Postcard'

The singer and songwriter known as Måns Williamson has released his most high-profile record to date, “Postcard.” The LP album comprises nine original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 40 minutes. It has been proudly published as an independent release without financial backing from the corporate music industry. Raw, natural, and full of passion and spirit, “Postcard” proves that alternative country music comes from the heart, not just from Nashville.

Swedish composer Måns Williamson cites as main artistic influences such disparately talented musicians as Eric Bibb, Keb' Mo', Guy Clark, Luther Vandross, and even Algerian favorite, Souad Massi. This broad spectrum of personal interests may seem too differing to add much to Williamson's personal style, yet inklings of each of them appear on “Postcard” in a variety of ways.

“Postcard” is a country/western record spiced with elements of alternative music, and each of its nine offerings brings its own theme and feel to the whole. Still, a heartfelt and folk-inspired narrative is something all of Williamson's songs have in common. A short listen is all that is necessary to note the extreme care with which the artist has chosen his words.

A certain classic rock tonality pervades the record, too, which will be none too surprising to listeners already acquainted with him. Speaking of his start in music at the age of 10, he writes, “My father gave me a guitar when I was a kid and introduced me to bands like the Beatles and the Byrds.” This led him to busking on the streets of his hometown, playing folk and country music along with songs of the 1960s.

Born to parents who ran a music venue, Williamson was exposed to nearly every style of playing. His repertoire has included (and continues to be flavored with) an amalgam of musical modes such as jazz, soul, and even the music of Palestine, which he performed in a Palestinian band playing the Arabic lute before returning to singing and songwriting with an acoustic guitar.

Asked to relate the main message his record has in store for music fans, he writes simply that it is intended to communicate “Kindness and compassion towards others and yourself.”

Lu Sloan to release new single 'It Ain't Nun' prod. by Boogie Beatz

The rapper and songwriter of hip hop known as Lu Sloan will release his latest rap anthem, “It Ain't Nun.” The track has been produced by Boogie Beatz and will be published under the Bang Bang Music Group independent record label. “It Ain't Nun” is slated to be the most significant official single from Lu Sloan since his popular “Bend Over and Twerk (feat. Kia Shine),” which appeared in fall of 2013. “Bend Over and Twerk” was preceded by a pair of 2012 singles, “All I Know” and “Close Up,” the trio of which helped pave the way for the impending drop of “It Ain't Nun.”

Lu Sloan cites as main artistic influences such hip-hop artists as Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Michael Jackson, Master P., T.I., UGK, Jay-Z, P. Diddy, and 50 Cent. In addition to these, Sloan also endorses various non-hip-hop music acts like MGMT, U2, Cold Play, the Bee Gees, and the Whispers. As a result, his hip hop is clever, unpredictable and multifaceted, as well as legitimately reflecting some of the grittier facts of life in urban America.

“I've been around a lot of talented people that were in my family,” Lu Sloan writes, “and they never really wanted to pursue the dream as much as I do. So that inspired me to get involved in music and team up with business partner Kris Pendleton and start Bang Bang Music Group. I want to give it all I've got!”

With powerful drive in the face of adversity like his, it should come as no surprise that Lu Sloan's single has a theme which is closely related. The artist writes that “It Ain't Nun” is about “The ups and downs on the road to success for a man with so much against him.”

Sloan has shared the stage with top-billing names like Rick Ross, Juicy J, Yo Gotti, Big K.R.I.T., Migos, and others. His upcoming LP, “The Flood 2,” features performances by Young Nation and Magnolia Chop, and that's just what's in the works presently.

Kid Dray releases new single 'Gear Up'

The rapper known as Kid Dray has released his latest single, “Gear Up.” The track was produced by popular hip-hop producer Purple Neezy, of Russia. It has been proudly published on the Cool Base Records independent music label, entirely without support from the corporate music infrastructure. “Gear Up” is the first single to be showcased from Dray's up-and-coming mixtape, “The Freeway.” A drop date of November, 2014 has been rumored for “The Freeway,” though Cool Base has announced no official day of release. Upbeat, slick, and driven by cracking back beats and cleverly crafted rhymes,
“Gear Up” does as fine a job at showcasing the skills of Kid Dray as it does the talents of Purple Neezy.

Kid Dray cites as main artistic influences J. Cole, Lupe Fiasco, and Drake. His style takes many of the best attributes of these artists and adds to them to a dynamic delivery on the mic that is all his own. Born in Africa, Dray raps with all the laid-back confidence of the American west coast as well as with the casual aggression of the east. Add to this the key elements of Purple Neezy's dirty-south sound and a general idea of the “Gear Up” experience can be imagined.

Speaking of the themes in his “Gear Up” single and impending “Freeway” record, Dray writes, “My album speaks to those oriented in the new world and what it's all about, letting the young know they are the future and also addressing the third worlds, what they represent, and respecting their lineage.”

Only 19 years old, Kid Dray's debut single “My Drank” hit online shelves as recent as February, 2014. It notably featured the Los Angeles rap hero, Ace B. “My Drank” obtained widespread public and college radio airtime and garnered positive reviews in every locale in which it was played.

Dray's official bio closes with the mission statement: “Kid Dray's music aims to make musical messages from the third worlds affect the rest of the world. Kid Dray is an artist, not just with the aim of blowing up and making money from huge sales and fame, but aiming also to put his style as a signature on the music scene and to inspire youngsters about life and the future.”

Jay Charm releases new EP 'Lovers Lane'

The songwriter and performer of hip hop known as Jay Charm has released his latest EP record, “Lovers Lane.” The EP is composed of five original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 15 minutes. It has proudly been published as an independent release entirely without support of the corporate music industry. It is the most recent official release from Charm since his June 2013 record, the “P – Game” EP. Innovative, upbeat, and full of urban poetry of the highest caliber, “Lovers Lane” by Jay Charm is a record that defines his style better than anything Charm has released before.

Jay Charm cites as main artistic influences Jay-Z, Jada Kiss, and Freeway. He also notes in a recent interview, “As a teenager I started to like Eminem, Son the RNB Side, Michael Jackson, and of course Janet Jackson and TLC are awesome! I was also a Big Punisher and Brian McKnight fan.”

Still, Charm's history as a youth in the East Coast's urban center of Philadelphia molded his art at least as much as his favorite music has. He says of this, “Due to the life I lived in the streets of Philadelphia, I grew up hypnotized by music and influenced by words. The seduction of sex, violence and drugs drew me ever closer in touch with my own personal musical talent and entertainment abilities. Overall my own life lessons, experiences, and circumstantial mishaps are the major inspirational influence over my music.”

Though only 26 years old at the time of this writing, Charm has already published more than 14 official releases in one form or another. His repertoire includes nine video shoots at last count, with more on the way. He has already performed at countless venues with several popular artists, such as DJ Kay Slay and Young Jeezy. His countless cameo appearances have placed him with living legends like Fred the GodSon, Mack Maine, Cory Gunz, Uncle Murda, and many, many more.

Speaking of the themes in his music, Jay Charm says, “My music usually pertains to something that has occurred in my life, so when I’m in front of an audience performing, I give more than just a performance; I give a connection, a real life experience. From my anecdotes of victory and strife I hype crowds with tales of triumph. I want to empower those who wanna give up. I want to free those who shy away from confidence. I have a message and a desire to positively influence the youth of yesterday, today and tomorrow.”

Proof of Charm's desire to change the world is evident in the not-for-profit organization he co-founded to support the family of his friend, called Brian's Army, the letter of recognition he received from Suffolk County legislator, Kate Browning, and an honorable mention from the town of Brookhaven.

P.O.P. releases new LP 'Pappa's Back'

The rapper known as Patterns of Perfection (P.O.P.) has released his latest LP, “Pappa's Back.” The record is composed of 13 original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 50 minutes. It has been proudly published on the World Records independent music label entirely without support of the corporate music industry. A cutting-edge rap record with endless amounts of ingenuity and imagination, “Pappa's Back” is hip hop with all the best qualities of the old school, published at a time when the urban music scene so desperately needs it.

P.O.P. cites as main artistic influences an amalgam of different artists, including Pink Floyd, Blockhead, Eminem, Freddy Machette, Bob Marley, Lil Wayne, Dylan, Linkin Park, Fort Minor, and Zion I. His own sound, however, cannot be surmised on the basis of his listening habits.

“Pappa's Back” boasts great variety in terms of tempo, tone and themes. There are party tracks, groove tracks, chillout tracks, hardcore tracks, and tracks P.O.P. seems to have included just for fun. Taking a moment to sample tracks like “Anthem” “Horizon”, “Teach Me How to POP” and “Expialidocious” yields a quick conclusion: “Pappa's...” is clearly worth its weight in vinyl.

Thematically speaking, P.O.P.'s lyrics are intelligently crafted, ranging from clever to downright impressive, and often with a healthy dose of humor besides. Though packaged with both lighthearted and heavier songs, “Pappa's Back” doesn't make the mistake of taking itself too seriously, as P.O.P.'s grinning face on the album cover seems to hint.

Patterns of Perfection was born in South Lake Tahoe, CA. His first record, “A New Age,” appeared on digital shelves in 2013 bearing no fewer than 17 original tracks, and is still available from iTunes and various other outlets. Shortly after, the artist's hand was caught in machinery, leaving him with a full year's recovery time during which he composed only instrumental music. Having relocated to Gardnerville, NV by way of Colorado, P.O.P. toured the US for his second and third times and settled down to produce “Pappa's Back” under his own World Records label.

Upon being asked, “What message does your album share with its listeners?” P.O.P. answers simply, “We all are in this together.”

Glitch Arsonist G5 releases new LP 'The Great Tribulation'

The East Coast rapper known as Glitch Arsonist G5 has released his latest LP album, “The Great Tribulation.” The record is composed of 9 original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 30 minutes. It is the most recent official release from Glitch Arsonist since his spring 2013 album, “Ten Years of Writing.” Both LPs are produced and distributed on New York's independent music label, the Establishment Records. Backed with unstoppable beats, bass, rhymes and lines, “The Great Tribulation” is the latest in what is sure to be a long series of titanic records from Glitch Arsonist G5.

Glitch Arsonist cites as main artistic influences only one legendary rapper, Nas.

“I used to always try to top Nas' album lyrically after every [album] he dropped,” writes Glitch Arsonist. “He used to put me in the real lyrical mood and mental state and would have me rapping about similar content.”

Intuitively, “The Great Tribulation” is packed with many of the same attributes and qualities which have made Nas' music so integral to the lasting power of the hip-hop movement. Glitch Arsonist's thought-provoking lyrics, aggressive vocal delivery and pounding, thumping back beats drive his record from start to finish like a steam engine gone off the rails. His long-standing promise to restore the rap scene to its former glory by bringing back the “REAL hip hop” sound was partially fulfilled by “Ten Years of Writing,” and “The Great Tribulation” brings his goal even closer.

Glitch Arsonist G5 got his start by recording “dis” records during the Nas / Jay-Z feud in the early 2000s.

“During that era my 'hood was split up into record labels (cliques, groups),” writes Glitch, “and we were all making dis records at each other at my niggaz crib on his karaoke machine. We used to go outside with a radio playing our songs to get a response for it, to see how good it was and for bragging rights and competition.”

The response, as it turned out, was strong. By the time he was 15, Glitch had attracted the attention of a manager.

“He pushed me to record my first album and make songs. He got me the beats and I used to rap my songs to him in his car when he came through to see if it was good enough to record in the studio. They were always good enough to record, but that helped me keep my skills sharp and to try to produce my best work, as well as using his guidance to learn how to perfect and master the recording process.”

Glitch Arsonist printed 1000 CDs and sold them on the street. 700 albums deep, everything started to fall into place. His latest record is undoubtedly his greatest work to date, founded on more than ten years of writing, rapping, and putting everything he's got into making straight-up, heavy-hitting hip-hop records.

The composer and producer of digital music known as Burgo has released his debut dance single, “Hit It.” The track has been distributed to iTunes, Beatport, and all of the relevant music outlets the Internet has to offer with an official drop date of 13 September 2014. Billed variously online as progressive house music, electro- house music, and simply EDM, “Hit It” is the latest example of dance music done right from the independent music producers of Australia.

Burgo is described online as a veteran, professional DJ with many years of experience spinning discs at parties and in dance clubs. Having played enough music by other people to know he could do it himself, Burgo became addicted to producing his own tracks, and the present release of “Hit It” is evidence that he can mix beats with the best of them.

Asked to cite some DJs with whom he has performed, the modest producer politely declines.

“It’s irrelevant whom he has supported as a DJ,” says one Burgo representative, echoing Burgo's own thoughts on the matter. “You're only as good as the last DJ set you performed and we can safely say he has supported some of the biggest names in the music industry.”

Burgo's live performances have created a sprawling, loyal fan base for him. His official bio describes his act as a sure thing, an inarguably good time, an energetic performance which unites any crowd in back beats and grooves.

“One thing is for sure,” writes Burgo's A&R rep, “what you see is what you get. There's nothing fake about this mix-master and crowd-pleasing legend.”

Although Burgo's “Hit It” debut has been shipped with a release date of 13 September, it has been available for pre-sale for several days. Early signs indicate that this DJ's first foray into producing his own tracks is bound to be just the start of a long line of power-packed dance titles. Fans of electronica have little reason to wait. Burgo's “Hit It” is available online worldwide.

Bells and Robes release new EP 'One Should See Sound'

The electronica duo known as Bells and Robes have released their latest EP record, “One Should See Sound.” The EP comprises six original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 25 minutes. It has been proudly published as an independent release entirely without the support of the corporate music industry. Smooth, groovy, stylish and infinitely danceable, “One Should See Sound” by Bells and Robes is a record that anyone with ears can get into right away.

Bells and Robes cite as main artistic influences such various musicians as Flying Lotus, Flume, Beats Antique, Frank Sinatra, the Flaming Lips, and Darkside. As might be imagined, their sound takes various cues from each of these and arrives at its own character with a cool, jazzy ambiance and a crisp, clean overtone. Their drums are clever and spacious, a living part of the record, a rare treat in a genre of music often criticized for being overly mechanical and filled with loops.

Speaking of the themes present in “One Should See Sound,” Bells and Robes write: “The album takes listeners on a colorful journey through time and space. The name 'Bells and Robes' comes from a Zen koan referencing the merging of color and sound.”

The merging of color and sound on their new EP is palpable, like the visions which often accompany listening to classical music or the background score to a feature film. The connection Bells and Robes have to classical music principles is ever-present in their own composition of digital music. They speak of this openly.

“Great composers of the past once created 'absolute music,'” they write. “This music was given the title because it had no meaning and simply wished to express the pure emotion felt and heard by the listener without narrowing itself down to a tangible meaning. Bells and Robes wish to expand upon this abstract idea and make music devoid of a concrete and tangible meaning. The music expresses being and sight as one, creating a sonic atmosphere that will leave listeners traveling through a populous and flowing world.”

Though they acknowledge that there is more to their record than mere music, the actual listening experience is a mellow, expansive one which calms and remains invigorating at the same time.

“Bells and Robes has always attempted to make music that draws visual imagery into the listeners mind through the use of psychedelic textures and ambient elements,” they explain. “This EP hopes to continue on that voyage to unite both sound and vision into one form that allows listeners to take whatever meaning they may wish from the music.”

Bells and Robes have performed with such artists as Beats Antique, Emancipator, Odezsa, Papadosio, Reptar, Break Science, Stokeswood, the Heavy Pets, Antihero, Dynohunter, Sounduo, the Savants of Soul, and Ruby. They have been featured on Purple Hatter's Ball, 1 Spark, and the Swamp Records Showcase.

Healing Rain Christian Music releases new LP 'Miracles Still Happen'

The purveyors of spiritual music known as the Healing Rain Worship Team have released their new LP record, “Miracles Still Happen.” The album is composed of 42 minutes' worth of uplifting and empowering music in eight original recordings. It has been published on the Healing Rain Christian Music, Inc. record label. Billed variously as Christian contemporary music, adult contemporary music, and even rock music, “Miracles Still Happen” is an example of the continuing creativity and passion expressed by the children of God in the music world today, and a solid listen both for those looking to worship and those in need of a heavenly hand, alike.

Asked to cite a few musical influences, Minnesota-based Healing Rain cite Hillsong Australia and Darlene Zschech, as well as gospel legend Andrae Crouch. Their own sound is bold and impetuous while maintaining a steadfast focus on their principles, as well as on their lyric roots in the Christian Bible. They aren't a traditional praise group, however. They're changing the way Christian music is done.

“Under the performing name of Healing Rain Worship Team,” the band writes, “we have assembled a cross-cultural group of Christian musicians and singers, and together are creating this subgenre of Christian music called contemporary-Christian fusion. By 'fusion,' we imply combining the music scales of western christian music with that of other cultures.”

The band's official bio goes on to explain that this blend can be tailored to produce “a melody and rhythm that sits well with the ear of audiences across most continents which have a Christian population.”

This means everywhere but Antarctica, it can be surmised, and Healing Rain intends to bring this music into entirely new contexts – not just the Sunday worship service.

“Our goal is for Christians to sing our songs in their homes, in their cars and in their churches,” they write.

24SE7EN (Two-Four-Seven) releases new single 'Zero2Hero'

The rapper from the UK, known as 24SE7EN has released his new international single, “Zero2Hero.” In addition to the skills of 24SE7EN, himself, the single also features the talents of Alex Buchanan and Dani Vi. The track has been proudly released on the S2N Records (Second2NoneRecords) independent music label, entirely without support from the corporate music infrastructure. Filled with strings, lines, rhymes, beats and bass, "Zero2Hero" by 24SE7EN is the latest reason for fans of pop and rap music to stand up and take notice of this up-and-coming artist and music label.

24SE7EN cites as main artistic influences a broad spectrum of artists, including such disparate names as Michael Jackson, the Beatles, Elton John, and Fleetwood Mac, as well as many of the most seminal names in hip hop. These include Eminem, Nas, Dr. Dre, the Notorious B.I.G., Tupac Shakur, Madchild, MGK, Slaughterhouse, the Wu-Tang Clan, Ill Bill and Talib Kweli. 24SE7EN's own sound blends the most powerful attributes of these with his own unique and inimitable style, one which includes razor-sharp, digital sound engineering and equally cutting urban poetry.

Speaking of the themes of his new single, S2N Records writes that 24SE7EN's song is about "personal belief, growth and success. 24SE7EN describes in many ways that you can be whatever you want to be and do what ever you want to do. Anything is possible if you believe."

24SE7EN's first official single under the S2N banner was published in spring 2014, titled, "Eyes of a Child." Like "Zero2Hero," the track features Alex Buchanan, best known as a semi-finalist on the popular BBC program, "The Voice UK" in 2013. "Eyes of a Child" has been made available on such major music websites as MTV.com , VH1.com, MTV.ca and MuchMusic.com. 24SE7EN's music is ready now for broadcast on MTV Hits and MTV Latin in America both on cable and satellite.

Whilst 24SE7EN is on the road gigging and doing shows, he is also currently in the studio working on new material for his first studio album, "Pain Breeds Strength."

Nuova Divisione release new LP 'The Last Man in Europe'

The progressive rock band from Italy known as Nuova Divisione have released their new LP record, “The Last Man in Europe.” The album comprises 11 original tracks for an approximate total listening time of one whole hour, making for a comprehensive treatment of the band's new material and a fine introduction for rock fans not yet acquainted. It has been proudly published as an independent release without support from the corporate music infrastructure. Written, performed and produced with the most integral principles of classic rock in mind, Nuova Divisione's “The Last Man in Europe” is definitive proof that prog-rock is both alive and kicking like crazy.

Nuova Divisione cite as main artistic influences such seminal rock artists as the Beatles, Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd, Yes, Brian Wilson, and Simon and Garfunkel. From here their inspirations become less obvious: classical titans such as Rachmaninov, Gershwin and Bartòk are represented, as well as jazz players like Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, and Ray Charles. Their list of favorites veers away into seemingly unrelated art forms at the last, including names like Stanley Kubrick, Monty Python, and Friedrich Nietzsche.

While this surprising rainbow of input is explained by the overall theme of Nuova Divisione's album (described below), its sound is a blend of the Beatles' creativity and Pink Floyd's tonal inventiveness. Fans of either band are likely to be extremely pleased with their first experience of “The Last Man in Europe,” as are fans of Yes, Simon and Garfunkel, and virtually any group showcasing extremely strong songwriting as one of their chief charms.

Speaking of the plot and motifs of their new LP, Nuova Divisione write, “The album is a concept. The story is quite weird: a mixture between the Book of Revelation, Dhamma Pada, Greek Mythology, Nietzsche, Monty Python and a long lucid dream. To summarize the thing, I would say it is all about self-consciousness. Which is, I think, the one and only method to be happy and safe. You've got to love yourself if you want to love other people. And you've got to know yourself if you want to understand other people. And love them.”

Paperfox releases debut EP 'Dreamcatcher'

The Los Angeles indie and alt-rock band billed as Paperfox have released their debut EP record, “Dreamcatcher.” The extended-play album is composed of five original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 20 minutes. It has been proudly published as an independent release without support from the corporate music industry. Poppy, danceable, upbeat and highly melodic, “Dreamcatcher” is a record which defines the sound, personality and character of the youth of today, and proves that the spirit of indie music in Southern California continues to thrive.

Hailing from LA's Silverlake area, Paperfox (often stylized PAPERFOX) cite as main artistic influences such contemporary indie-rock heroes as the 1975, Fall Out Boy, Vampire Weekend, Arctic Monkeys, Young the Giant, Two Door Cinema Club, and Kings of Leon. As might be intuited from such a list, their own sound fits naturally among the tones of these widely popular bands. Every track on “Dreamcatcher” is a shoo-in for radio play, a single just waiting for public attention to focus on it.

That Paperfox's first record is so easy to imagine being played in cars all along the Santa Monica Fwy is no accident. Paperfox writes of their artistic vision, “None of us have ever played this style of music. All of us come from different musical backgrounds spanning from hardcore, straight-edge, emo, pop-punk, screamo, and other bands from the 'Warped Tour' scene... But just recently, [we] decided to see what was constantly spinning on the radio and heard bands like Arctic Monkeys, Vampire Weekend, Capital Cities, Arcade Fire, and thought, there's a market for this, so why not?”

Paperfox are also true representatives of the DIY music underground. Not only was “Dreamcatcher” written, produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered by the band themselves, but also the digital marketing, promotion, web design, social media marketing, and shirt designs were executed by the members of the band, too. With gumption and ability like this in equal parts, Paperfox won't be confined to the hipster Mecca of Silverlake for long.

Singer-songwriter Retz releases new single 'Sweet Memories'

The singer and songwriter from Sweden known as Retz has released his latest single, “Sweet Memories.” The track has been published on the Mareld Records music label. With traditional folk-style lyrics and that unmistakably American sound, “Sweet Memories” is a genuine country-western ballad from across the pond, one which no fan of the genre should miss.

Retz (often stylized RETZ) cites as main artistic influences such legends as the Rolling Stones, BB-King, the Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Paul Carrack, Phil Collins. Bill Haley, Van Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Prince, and Bruce Springsteen. His characteristic vocal tone has elements of both Johnny Cash and Roy Orbison, and it stands out even against the background of expert guitar work and marvelous songwriting.

Speaking of the themes of his new single, Retz writes, “Whether it's the love of a man to a woman he's so drawn to, a mother letting go of her son for so many years, or simply missing a loved one, this song 'Sweet Memories' speaks for itself.”

Retz puts his enjoyment of music before other related concerns. “I am an independent artist,” he writes. “The most important thing for me is to always keep it fun to create music. Thereafter, it will be really fun if people like what I create.”

Retz was born in 1956 growing up with rock, soul, blues and country music. He joined his first publicly noted band in the late sixties. He played rock music with Bobcat's Rock Show in Gothenberg, and after an extended hiatus recorded an EP called “Lightning” in 2012. Spring of 2014 saw the release of his “Ride the Wave” EP, after which he corresponded with Australia's Ramon Ray. Ray wrote lyrics and sent them to Retz, and “Sweet Memories” is the timely result of their collaboration.

Eric Shenefield releases new LP 'Southwest'

The jazz pianist known as Eric Shenefield has released his latest LP record, “Southwest.” The record contains 11 original tracks for an approximate total listening time of one hour, bringing “Southwest” closer to the length of a double LP than that of a traditional long-play album alone. It has proudly been published as an independent release without support of the corporate music industry. Mainly focused on the imaginative and liberating principles of jazz fusion, “Southwest” is an especially colorful example of complexity expressed through simplicity, and one of the most inventive collections of original jazz songs to be released in the new millennium.

Shenefield cites as main artistic influences George Duke, Chick Corea, Joe Sample, Oscar Peterson, Jeff Lorber, Elton John, Tribal Tech, the Crusaders, and Steely Dan. Many of the traits which slated these for the annals of music history are present in Shenefield's “Southwest,” but his own creative motivations don't play solo on this LP. The composer is quick to point out that this new record showcases some of the jazz scene's finest instrumentalists at the zenith of their game.

“This album is for people who want to listen to music that is artfully crafted and sonically mixed to hear the contribution of every musician,” Shenefield writes. “It represents the efforts of many very gifted people. I want to share that message with all who hear it.”

Neither is his goal merely collaboration for collaboration's sake, either.

“It is my hope that people will hear something new and exciting each time they listen. I have written the music, but it is the collaboration of the musicians and engineers that makes it special.”

Pianist Eric Shenefield has been playing for nearly forty years. He considers his current group to be the culmination of a life spent performing music. Having begun at home at the age of eight, his skills honed and polished at the university level, Shenefield now provides services as a keyboardist, band leader, composer and arranger. He has performed in top-40 and jazz bands all over the United States.

“The whirring of a fan or the hum of tires as we travel down the road represent the possibility of inspiration,” he writes. “We can create music by what we feel and hear if we are open to those possibilities. Music is everywhere. Being willing to hear it is the gateway to a whole new world of sound.”

“Southwest” by Eric Shenefield is available online worldwide 1 September 2014. Get in early, jazz-fusion fiends.
