The rapper known as Patterns of
Perfection (P.O.P.) has released his latest LP, “Pappa's Back.”
The record is composed of 13 original tracks for an approximate total
listening time of 50 minutes. It has been proudly published on the
World Records independent music label entirely without support of the
corporate music industry. A cutting-edge rap record with endless
amounts of ingenuity and imagination, “Pappa's Back” is hip hop
with all the best qualities of the old school, published at a time
when the urban music scene so desperately needs it.
P.O.P. cites as main artistic
influences an amalgam of different artists, including Pink Floyd,
Blockhead, Eminem, Freddy Machette, Bob Marley, Lil Wayne, Dylan,
Linkin Park, Fort Minor, and Zion I. His own sound, however, cannot
be surmised on the basis of his listening habits.
“Pappa's Back” boasts great variety
in terms of tempo, tone and themes. There are party tracks, groove
tracks, chillout tracks, hardcore tracks, and tracks P.O.P. seems to
have included just for fun. Taking a moment to sample tracks like
“Anthem” “Horizon”, “Teach Me How to POP” and
“Expialidocious” yields a quick conclusion: “Pappa's...” is
clearly worth its weight in vinyl.
Thematically speaking, P.O.P.'s lyrics
are intelligently crafted, ranging from clever to downright
impressive, and often with a healthy dose of humor besides. Though
packaged with both lighthearted and heavier songs, “Pappa's Back”
doesn't make the mistake of taking itself too seriously, as P.O.P.'s
grinning face on the album cover seems to hint.
Patterns of Perfection was born in
South Lake Tahoe, CA. His first record, “A New Age,” appeared on
digital shelves in 2013 bearing no fewer than 17 original tracks, and
is still available from iTunes and various other outlets. Shortly
after, the artist's hand was caught in machinery, leaving him with a
full year's recovery time during which he composed only instrumental
music. Having relocated to Gardnerville, NV by way of Colorado,
P.O.P. toured the US for his second and third times and settled down
to produce “Pappa's Back” under his own World Records label.
Upon being asked, “What message does
your album share with its listeners?” P.O.P. answers simply, “We
all are in this together.”
“Pappa's Back” by P.O.P. is
available online worldwide.
