Collage releases new single 'Kingston Killers'

The singer, rapper and songwriter from Jamaica known as Collage has released his latest single, “Kingston Killers.” The track is the most significant official single from Collage to date. It has been released on the Castle Productions music label. Positively and proudly nationalist in its themes, energetic and powerful in its rhythm and groove, “Kingston Killers” showcases Collage as one of the Caribbean's most creative and hardworking rappers.

Collage cites as main artistic influences Lil' Wayne, as well as fellow Jamaican musician, Vybz Kartel.

“I admire Vybz Kartel for his creative style of writing,” he writes.

Not unlike Kartel, Collage spends an enormous amount of time penning rap songs with cutting, thoughtful lyrics. “Kingston Killers,” in particular, is a song with much of Collage's heart in its themes and overall meaning.

“For this single,” Collage writes, “the essence really is that I am passionate about my community and my country Jamaica at large. Therefore I will be willing to defend my country if the needs arise, and in the song I am inviting others to the same, and to rekindle that passion in their hearts for their country. I am not just referring to going to war like a solider, but also to be the best they can be and make a meaningful contribution to their country according to their area of expertise.”

Collage has been writing, performing and competing in rap since the 9th grade.

“I started getting involved in music back in school when I used to watch '106 and Park' and 'Freestyle Friday.'” Collage writes. “I watched BET a lot back then. That's when I started to write my own rap.”

His first moniker was Casino, which he changed to Collage upon signing with the Castle Productions music label in 2012, with which company he has been working ever since. His official debut studio LP record album is in the works.

Izzy Cash releases new single 'Wake Me Up'

The rapper and hip-hop producer known as Izzy Cash has released his latest single, “Wake Me Up.” “Wake Me Up” is Izzy Cash's most significant worldwide release since his latest mixtape, “Regime Reloaded,” which appeared on such sites as Hype Magazine and Hip Hop Worldwide in late 2013 / early 2014. The single has been proudly released without support from the corporate music infrastructure. A booming, thumping hip-hop track steeped in the original sound born on America's East Coast, “Wake Me Up” stands as an example of Izzy Cash's powerful talent and promises that this urban poet has much more where this came from.

Izzy Cash cites as main artistic influences Fabolous, 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Snoop Lion, the Notorious B.I.G., Tupac Shakur, and Nas. His own art bears similarities to his favorite legends, though of course the distinctive Izzy Cash sound remains the most striking feature of “Wake Me Up.” The single moves further from his work on “Regime Reloaded” while still carrying his momentum, making an upbeat and aggressive move towards Cash's first full-length record.

The rapper Izzy Cash was born on the island of Grenada in the Southeastern Caribbean, but has been based in New York City's Brooklyn borough for some time. He has publicly mentioned that he has plans to release his debut LP album later in 2014. His lyric content generally revolves around topics such as women, work, hip hop, the pursuit of success, and loved ones passed on. His personal tenacity as an artist also appears frequently in his songs.

“I rap about real life situations,” writes Cash. “Realistically, if a person really wants to succeed they have to live positively. You have to feel like good things are coming and that you are living to the fullest. A successful person has to do more than lackadaisically sitting around. It may be hard to accomplish, but anyone can do whatever he or she wants, as long as that person is willing to put the work in and the motivation comes from the heart.”

It is his devotion to the art of hip hop which makes songs like “Wake Me Up” so remarkable.

Cash writes of this, “I love music. I love it and I want to spend my life creating more of it. I can’t think of anything better than that.”

Elu releases debut single 'Nine Holes and a Beer'

The musician known as Elu has released his official debut music single, “Nine Holes and a Beer.” The track is a contemporary blues song with overtones of cool jazz, built on crisp and breezy guitar chords and classy, stylish vocals. The track has been proudly published and distributed as an independent title and features the vast talents of Erlend Krauser. A song which conveys not only feelings of warmth and contentment but also a deep appreciation of life's most tranquil moments, “Nine Holes and a Beer” showcases Elu as a remarkable songwriter and nigh-flawless performer.

Elu cites as main artistic influences Ween, Faith No More, and Frank Zappa, proving him to be a listener with a taste for wildly creative music with sharp edges. However, Elu's own debut single, “Nine Holes and a Beer” has far more in common with legendary artists such as Chet Baker and John Pizzarelli. The vocals are smooth as silk, the guitar chords like the trickling of spring water over a stone riverbed. The effect is both calming and enchanting, intriguing and subtly complex. Fans of jazz and blues alike will agree on Elu's first official release.

The themes of “Nine Holes and a Beer” are bucolic, sunny and simple.

“I like to play golf,” Elu writes. “And everyone who playes golf knows that it usually is a real struggle. But then there are those rare moments, when suddenly everything is perfect. This song is about such a moment.”

“Nine Holes and a Beer” may represent Elu's official debut, but the expert musician has been playing since the age of seven.

“I had piano lessons for 14 years,” he relates. “My major musical influences were the Beatles, Beatles, Beatles. Nothing else. And actually I never practiced – I only played – all day long. Blues, boogie stuff. Which drove my teacher crazy.”

To play music without practicing scales and other such exercises is rare in musicians who achieve Elu's level of expertise. He attributes this success to an unlikely source, considering his present sound. He explains:

“I started playing guitar at the age of 16, when I discovered that there was another cool band out there: AC/DC. I played in several rock and punk rock bands and ended up playing the Hammond organ in a Deep Purple cover band for years. Kept playing the guitar now and then, but lost the focus a bit.”

That the Erlend Krauser appears prominently on “Nine Holes and a Beer” is no accident.

“That changed when I met Erlend Krauser, a GENIUS guitar player and musician. I thought: you’re never too old to release your first single.”

“Nine Holes and a Beer” by Elu and featuring Erlend Krauser is available online worldwide. Get in early.

Jas Unique releases new single 'Emotional'

The singer and songwriter known as Jas Unique has released his latest R 'n' B single, “Emotional.” The track has been proudly released independent of support from corporate music companies. An upbeat, uplifting and lightheartedly romantic song with clear, clarion vocals atop a deep, thumping back beat, “Emotional” is a single that proves Jas Unique is more than just an up-and-coming talent. He's a musician at the top of his rhythm-'n'-blues game.

Jas Unique cites as main artistic influences Anthony Hamilton, Chris Brown, and Urban Mystic. Unique's own sound is a blend of these with a touch more of soul, a dash of blues, and a steady undercurrent of southern gospel music. This will not surprise longtime fans of Jas Unique, either, because his musical background has its roots in the thriving choir culture of the American South.

Unique states that he began his musical journey and learned to sing, “by watching my mother and father sing, and by singing at church.”

Jas Unique's single, “Emotional” is a true love song without the melodrama that drips from so much modern pop on radio and Internet music channels. Asked to describe the themes of this latest single, Unique writes that his song revolves around “Inspiration, emotions, joy and love.”

Jas Unique (also variously stylized Jas'Unique) is the professional name of Jason Rashad Rogers of Amory, Mississippi. His crystalline style of singing was honed at the Gordon Chapel Church in Houlka, MS, where by the age of twelve he had performed with a music group, Unique Voices, on drums. In 2006 Jas Unique represented his church by performing solo in a church choir competition, and realized his passion for music upon accepting his trophy for third place.

Mike Schadel releases new LP 'Oscar Wilde Is Dead'

The singer and songwriter known as Mike Schadel has released his latest LP record, “Oscar Wilde Is Dead.” The album is comprised of 10 original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 40 minutes. It is his third studio album, preceded by his 2010 LP “Things Will Change,” and “So What. Who Cares. The End,” which appeared in 2007. A poppy, grooving record with an audiophile's sensibilities and an indie heart, “Oscar Wilde Is Dead” stands as definitive proof that Mike Schadel deserves a place in every music lover's record collection.

Schadel cites as main artistic influences Ben Folds, the Beatles, the Beach Boys, Jeff Buckley, Rufus Wainright, Tuneyards, and “anything catchy or cutting edge.”

His record exhibits many qualities of these without attributes which might signify derivation. The resulting sound is unequivocally his own – smooth and subtle in its acoustic overtones, yet aggressive in terms of lyrical potency and emotional impact. “Oscar Wilde Is Dead” is equally effective when played as pleasant background music or when listened to with the intensity of a music aficionado.

At the center of this sonic elasticity is Schadel's musical principles, which demand that he take himself not-too seriously when writing music. Asked to describe the general theme of “Oscar Wilde Is Dead,” he writes: “Humor is a big factor to my message. I like to poke fun at myself and people around me in clever ways. I like to leave people smiling and wanting more.”

Mike Schadel has been playing music since the age of eight, when Santa Claus brought him a keyboard. By 10 he had graduated to drums and vocals, which he managed simultaneously. 12 saw him playing in a garage band with friends from school. His early songwriting was populated with catchy melody lines and four-part harmonies (which harmonic experience forms much of the charm on “Oscar...”). In time he moved to Los Angeles and played many famous venues with an ever-changing lineup, finally settling into the solo project which has resulted in this new LP.

Schadel has worked with the World Record, the Herbert Bail Orchestra, Eli Bolin, the Center Theater Group, and Joan Rivers. He also finds time to play in the Hereafter with his friend and fellow songwriter, John Elliot.

Harmini releases new single 'If I Go Away'

The born-again rapper, singer and songwriter known as Harmini has released his long-awaited single, “If I Go Away.” The single has been heralded by vast amounts of media attention on national television networks such as CBS as well as by international hip-hop heroes such as 50 Cent. An extremely emotional, visceral music experience unlike what is commonly published by even the most excellent hip-hop studios today, “If I Go Away” stands to put Harmini on mountaintops where he can preach his Christian message to listeners around the world.

New-York-raised Harmini cites as main artistic influences Boys II Men, Jagged Edge, Eminem, N-Sync, DMX, Backstreet boys, Nas, Michael Jackson and Garth Brooks, “to name a few.” His style is perhaps best described as having attributes of Eminem and DMX, bolstered by harmonies not unlike those of Boys II Men, and bearing certain flairs of Michael Jackson which polish his sound to a high shine.

“I have always had a strong passion for music,” writes the artist of his musical tastes. “It was one of the very things that helped keep me alive during some of the hardest times of my life.”

The remarkable quality of “If I Go Away” aside, however, its main draw is its shocking, brute-force, bone-deep earnestness and autobiographical nature.

Before the age of 21, Harmini had been the victim of sexual abuse and hospitalized for drug overdoses and suicide attempts more than a dozen times. He had been dealing narcotics for more than a decade. He had been on probation four times as a teenager before finally finding himself in jail, then prison. Two weeks before his scheduled release from the penitentiary, his mother passed away from lung cancer.

“My repeated delinquent behaviors as a wayward child built me the reputation of an unreachable heathen without hope for change,” he writes. “[My song] 'If I Go Away' reminds the world how important it is to make good choices in life. It brings to life and refreshes the harsh reality and importance of choices vs. consequences.”

2005 saw Harmini's accepting of Jesus Christ, whose gospel he has been speaking, singing and living ever since. “If I Go Away” represents the sonic culmination of his spiritual and social redemption.

Dallas police officers appear in Harmini's “If I Go Away” video in uniform, which has resulted in an official investigation of the DPD and more than a little uproar.

The following statement about Harmini's music video appeared on the official website of rapper 50 Cent, thisis50.com, in February:

“An actor, singer, songwriter, musician, model, and speaker, this man does it all. Who would think [Harmini's] role as a rap artist would stir up a story that made local news in Dallas, Texas? … The video has no profanity, no weapons actually being fired and has a positive message. - Shenee Edwards, President of 3HP Records.”

In response, Harmini himself replied in characteristic fashion, “Regardless of what people say, think. or do, our goal should be to deliver high-quality, relevant content that both honors God and challenges the mind of secular beliefs to consider the reality and truth of Jesus Christ. We serve the God of the Bible. Period.”

The music of “If I Go Away” stands tall, even amid so much personal and social tumult. Harmini's passion is palpable. His story, unforgettable.

Doc Wascher releases long-awaited new single 'Rewind'

Cancer Surgeon and self-described “Doctor of Rock & Roll” Doc Wascher has released his long-awaited instrumental rock single, “Rewind.” The track is a blues-rock guitar-driven instrumental tune that Wascher has chosen as the first worldwide release from his forthcoming debut album. Wascher, a fiercely independent composer and multi-instrumentalist, started his own label, Doc Wascher Records, which allows him complete artistic control over his music. “Rewind” was painstakingly and lovingly recorded in Doc’s own recording studio over a period of more than 6 months.

Rewind” immediately transports the listener back to the melodic and visceral sounds of the classic-rock style that dominated the airwaves in the '60s and '70s, while also representing the exciting vanguard of “new classic rock” music. “Rewind” rolls and grooves, and will thrill fans of rock 'n' roll music around the world.

Doc Wascher cites as his main artistic influences such legendary rockers as Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, the post-Cream Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Rush, Duane Eddy, the Animals, Yes, and the Ventures. Intuitively, “Rewind” bears many of the melodic and sonic qualities that immortalized the music of these giants of classic rock and progressive rock, while also recalling the tones and moods of disparate bands like the Velvet Underground and Tommy James and the Shondells.

Wascher, himself, describes “Rewind” with a clarity which arises from his unique artistic vision, and his decades of involvement with popular music. Wascher notes that, “'Rewind' is an instrumental rock song that combines an uplifting '70s pop-rock vibe with expressive and soulful guitar solos reminiscent of Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour.” Wascher further shares, “‘Rewind' was intentionally composed and recorded to transport, or 'rewind,' the listener back to the place and time when Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, the Stones, the Beatles and Cream reigned supreme on the FM airwaves.”

Doc Wascher has more than hit this mark with the uptempo “Rewind,” and years from now, listeners will vividly recall exactly where they were and what they were doing when they first heard “Rewind.”

On the rhythm side, Doc's bass lines rumble and groove while the drums churn out a deep blues-rock rhythm. Wascher’s blistering keyboards also receive well-deserved attention in “Rewind,” but it is his melodic and expressive rock guitar that especially wails and soars, with a soulful tone that brings to mind a cross between Pink Floyd and T-Rex, with a little vintage Cream thrown in for good measure. While “Rewind” amply serves as a worthy heir to many of the timeless blockbuster classic rock hits that will never die, this soulful and uplifting new groove also stakes its own rightful claim as a very contemporary and fresh-sounding rock masterpiece.

In addition to the deep blues-rock cuts churned out from his recording studio, Robert “Doc” Wascher is an internationally renowned cancer surgeon, cancer researcher, and professor of surgery. He is also the author of the popular book, “A Cancer Prevention Guide for the Human Race,” which has been referred to as the “Bible of cancer prevention” for lay readers. Wascher is also the editor of Weekly Health Update (www.doctorwascher.com).

Rewind,” by Doc Wascher, is available worldwide from all major online digital music stores, and on CDs directly from Doc Wascher Records.

Sticky Icky releases debut EP 'London Woman'

The music collective known as Sticky Icky have released their debut EP record, “London Woman.” It has been released on the BAMF Records Ltd. music label. The title track, “London Woman,” is accompanied by five disparate renditions, each of which is a genuine single on its own merits and named after the musician responsible for the remix: Simon Kaye, Thomas Graham, Youngblood, Roger Jaye, and Paul Lawrence. An electronic dance anthem full of energy and verve, “London Woman” is a colorful project heralding the arrival of this remarkable new crew from the United Kingdom.

Perhaps the most intriguing facet of “London Woman” is the band who created it, themselves. Sticky Icky is not a run-of-the-mill troupe of musicians formed to play a certain style of music. Rather, they are a collective not unlike the electronic indie favorite, Massive Attack.

Sticky Icky and BAMF Records Ltd Owner, Director and Writer Siddney Youngblood states that “A chance meeting between myself and artist/vocalist Skye Hawkes led to talks of forming a group.”

To this, Hawkes adds: “Siddney is a powerhouse of enthusiasm. We got chatting and I told him of my love for singing. He was already in talks with UK producer, Swardini, over forming a collective that could support many artists and musicians – along the lines of Massive Attack – and how they could draw from a pool of talented people to create different sounds.”

The topic of “London Woman” is particularly written to communicate the themes of Sticky Icky in general.

“We tailored the track to suit our message –” they write, “that although Sticky Icky represents the trials and tribulations of life, we want to reach people with our sounds and provide a loving vibe that anyone can relate to and that helps bring folks together.”

Sticky Icky chose Custass Finnigan for lead vocalist on “London Woman,” son of veteran ska musician John Shipley (the Specials).

Steven Drakes releases new LP 'Forbidden Fruit'

The singer and songwriter known as Steven Drakes has released his latest LP record, “Forbidden Fruit.” The album is comprised of 12 original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 45 minutes. It has been released on the SwayTone records music label. A classy, stylish, new and revamped form of contemporary R 'n' B, “Forbidden Fruit” by Steven Drakes is slated to be a record fans of rhythm and blues everywhere remember for decades to come.

Steven Drakes cites as main artistic influences Carl Thomas, DeAngelo, and Rick Ross. However, Drakes' own sound is entirely original. So original is the Drakes method, in fact, that he has coined a new term to describe it: rock 'n' soul. While his “Forbidden Fruit” album is commonly listed as R 'n' B and contemporary R 'n' B, Drakes' own term is absolutely more appropriate.

His official bio describes him as “a talented singer, songwriter, super producer and master harmonizer whose music is influenced my many different genres. It’s for this reason he decided his music does not fit into any of today’s conventional genres and has created his own.”

Much of the lyric poetry with which Drakes has infused his music runs along romantic lines. Speaking of the themes of “Forbidden Fruit,” he writes, “A lot of this album is true to my past and present. It's about a man who's aware of the rules of karma, but has been tempted, on occasion, by the allure of that which is forbidden. He seeks love, but is content to indulge in encounters which can evoke feelings of love, however superficial it may be.”

Like his album, Drakes feels certain that the story will finish on a high note.

“There is a love for everyone, and in the end, I’ll find mine.”

Drakes has been playing music since the age of five. He has written over a hundred songs in many genres, including R 'n' B, hip hop, jazz, alternative, blues and even classical. In time he added music production to his list of skills. Drakes served in the U.S. Marine Corps for five years and afterward determined to get his music published.

His participation in the 2008 “Scion Summer Soul Fest” inspired one official judge to comment, “This dude shouldn’t even be in this competition. He’s way ahead of the other artists.”

The Vandal releases new single 'I Make It Hot'

The singer and songwriter known as the Vandal has released his new official single track, “I Make It Hot.” The track has been proudly released on the Mosa Records music label. An undeniably infectious, pop-rock and modern rap song with the Vandal's lines and rhymes at the forefront of its aggressive demeanor, “I Make It Hot” is the #1 song the Vandal's fan base has been waiting for. The song has been published alongside its accompanying music video, officially the Vandal's first (link provided below). It is also included on his new LP album, “Pyro.”

The music of “I Make It Hot” is founded on hard rock with powerfully catchy guitar riffs manning the melody and with concrete-solid drums forming its back beat. The rest of the song is all Vandal, whose performance is what the song's chorus promises he will be: absolutely titanic. In fact, the Vandal's intelligent, top-notch writing is perhaps only outstripped by his straightforward, toes-to-the-line delivery of every phrase. Listeners will know they are not merely listening to the Vandal, but being directly spoken to by him.

The Vandal's official bio describes him as an artist expressing himself in the plainest language he can use, a sort of urban Hemingway on drum and bass.

“The Vandal,” his bio reads, “spits his life, his feelings, his fears and his heart out in his songs. An honest Rapper with nothing to lose and everything to gain, he’s only in it for the music, and is a long way away from fast cars, money and bitches. His music is real and has been sculpted to showcase something that is unique to Scotland, the sound of a raw American ghetto rapper, with the lyrics of an award-winning storyteller.”

Asked to describe himself with regard to his unadulterated mode of rap writing and performing, the Vandal replies, “I’m just telling my story, or as I see it, my version of my life, not what others think they know – no bullets, no bullsh*t.”

“I Make It Hot” by the Vandal is available online worldwide. Don't miss the official music video or his new LP album on Mosa Records, “Pyro.”

Tom Newman releases new LP 'The Secret Life of Angels'

Music composer Tom Newman, who produced Mike Oldfield's iconic, multimillion-selling album “Tubular Bells” and founded Virgin Records with Sir Richard Branson, has released his latest record, “The Secret Life of Angels.” The album has an approximate total listening time of 45 minutes and has been released on the Viral Discs and Downloads music label. An instrumental record with both spiritual and mythic themes and Irish, pastoral overtones, “The Secret Life of Angels” is a highly imaginative, refreshing album for fans of any music genre.

“The Secret Life of Angels” might well be cataloged as contemporary classical music. Its sonorous highs and lows tell the wordless tales of Catholic heroes and characters such as Raphael, Gabriel, and Lucifer himself.

Newman writes of this underlying plot: “The one thing that eludes the beautiful ones is that they cannot, being immortals, feel the fascinating, strange and fearful press of mortality. For instance, 'Raphael’s Bicycle' – the experience of learning to ride a bike is something the Archangel Raphael would cherish.”

“The Secret Life...” is populated with many more such vignettes. The “Angel Freeway” moves with rhythmic contentment and bustling subtlety. Uriel, who helped to bury Adam and Abel in the book of Genesis, contemplates a well-kept secret. Michael also has much to consider in “Michael's Conflict.” Raphael, previous to his attempt to ride a bicycle, dances a gorgeous, flowing sarabande. Tom Newman composes music to evoke intuitive and colorful emotions as if he were seeing these stories unfold firsthand.

Hearing him describe the experience of the angels, one is almost convinced that he does see them so.

“Through the machinery of our consciousness,” he writes, “the angels see and feel and have discourse, however the taste and timbre of our feelings towards ourselves and our fate, our despair, fears, aspirations and concerns are all complex combinations of DNA, upbringing, education and cultural influence. These are feelings that are denied the creatures of air.”

The result is an inspirational and mildly blue one.

“This music is their sadness, their yearning to experience the frisson of physical danger.”

“The Secret Life of Angels” by Tom Newman is available now from the Viral Discs and Downloads website (link provided below) and from hundreds of sites online in the very near future.

Chink Lives releases debut LP 'And Let Die Vol. 1'

The rapper known as Chink Lives has released his latest full-length mixtape, “And Let Die Vol. 1.” The album is comprised of 14 original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 45 minutes. It has been proudly produced by Pokaface Productions. A cruising, bruising record with an old-school soul and a new-school feel, “And Let Die Vol. 1” stands as evidence that Chink Lives and Pokaface Prod. are a force to be reckoned with in today's explosive hip-hop music underground.

Chink Lives is a songwriter and hip-hop performer from the East Coast of the United States. His new LP, “And Let Die Vol. 1,” has been turning heads since its appearance on virtual urban music websites late in 2013. In addition to the considerable skills of Chink Lives, himself, the record also features the supporting talents of Jodeci on “The DeVante Swing” and Luis Rumeo on “Main Event.” Unsurprisingly therefore, the album is chock-full with heavy-hitting party anthems which will add the octane to any Friday night with the volume on high.

In addition to the record, Chink Lives has also released an official music video for “The DeVante Swing” which can be viewed online around the world (link provided below). Though the LP had not yet hit digital music shelves at the time of this writing, the video had already garnered nearly two thousand views and hundreds of enthusiastic comments.

Pokaface Productions, based in New York City, has been active in the music industry for some time. Pokaface has produced music featured in all genres, as well as on television shows, feature films, and radio. Music produced by Pokaface Productions has made it's way onto releases by indie labels and on industry powerhouses like Def Jam. Music produced by Pokaface has been featured on projects by BET, MTV, Oxygen, and various major radio stations, including NYC's Hot97, and also in the Tribeca Film Festival.

“And Let Die Vol.1” by Chink Lives will be available online worldwide from Amazon, iTunes, and hundreds of other online retailers in the very near future.

Swiggamortis releases new single 'Hard to Handle'

The songwriter and performer of hip hop known as Swiggamortis has released his latest official single, “Hard to Handle.” The track is the first Swiggamortis single to be globally distributed and may be viewed as a debut release in that respect. Swiggamortis is currently signed to the Riitazblock Management music label.

Swiggamortis is the professional name of Milton Thompkins. He cites as main artistic influences such legends of the mic as Nas, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap, and KRS One. Naturally, many traits and nuances of these musicians can be heard in Swiggamortis' own material, and especially on his present offering to the urban music underground, “Hard to Handle.”

Swiggamortis got his start in music in high school, where one of his chief intellectual pursuits was, in his own words, “being a student of hip hop.”

Asked to expound the inherent message of his new single, “Hard to Handle,” Swiggamortis writes that his song is quite simply “Good lyrical content, music you can listen to all day, boom bap hip hop.”

Though his main category of sound is rap and hip hop music, Swiggamortis is a fan of all categories. His official bio describes him thus:

“My name is Milton Thompkins, A.K.A. Swiggamortis. I am a Riitazblock henchman. I am a student of all genres of music, especially hip hop. I'm influenced by lyrical content and beats that are gritty and infectious. I hope to leave a impression in hip hop and hope at the end of the day when they dig up a time capsule and discuss the music that influenced the masses, I'd like to be in on that conversation!”

Listeners and longtime fans of hip hop and rap are enthusiastically encouraged to take a good look at Swiggamortis' “Hard to Handle.” It is not just a clever name.

“Hard to Handle” by Swiggamortis is available online worldwide.

Maj releases new single 'Motivation'

The singer and songwriter known as Maj has released his latest official single, “Motivation.” The track is the most significant official release from Maj since his wildly successful “Grenade” single appeared in September of 2013. It has been released on the Browns Town Music LLC record label, which is home to such popular artists as Tje Austin, George Pettus and Shot Dinero. An upbeat, rhythmic party anthem with house music influences and island undertones, “Motivation” is a track for anyone who wants a shot of fun.

Though technically a single, Maj's “Motivation” has been released in six variations: a radio mix, a “Browns Town House” mix, a “Dope Dexter” drum 'n' bass mix, an “Earbleed” mix, an instrumental mix and an a cappella mix. Taken as a whole, these editions make up over 20 minutes of listening, enough for it to be billed as an EP record release.

Maj cites as main artistic influences Bone Thugs 'n' Harmony, Twister, the Notorious B.I.G., Outkast, Nas, Big L, Ludacris, Timbaland, Nate Dogg, and 112.

Asked to comment on the themes of his new single, “Motivation,” Maj writes, “It tells the struggle of my life and the music business. I promote having fun and to party like there is no tomorrow because life is too short.”

Fans loyal to Maj are familiar with his face from television appearances and his live act onstage. Few are aware of the tribulations he has overcome to bring his music to the masses, though.

“I’ve been through many ups and downs during my music industry endeavors,” he writes, “learning many things along the way, and I can honestly say that 'the struggle is real.' Getting so close to your dreams only to be let down over and over again [is extremely difficult]. I’ve stayed strong this whole time and not once have I let my dreams slip away from me because, other than a family of my own, this is all I want in my life.”

Maj concludes the interview with an impressive flexing of his own motivation.

“Know that I am a man on a mission and will stop at nothing to reach that ultimate goal of mine.”

Lo.Lux release new LP record 'Avino'

The East Coast hip hop crew known as Lo.Lux have released their latest LP record album, “Avino.” The album is comprised of 13 original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 40 minutes. “Avino” is the first LP record to appear on the official Lo.Lux website, and represents their most significant official release since their “Mario” EP, preceded by a collection of seven mixes simply titled, “Instrumentals.”

Lo.Lux cite as main artistic influences the Wu-Tang Clan, Clipse, Kanye West, Nas, and the Three6Mafia. With hooks like Wu-Tang's and rhymes like Kanye's early material, Lo.Lux have already proven themselves to be strikingly creative writers and remarkably intuitive producers of hip hop music. Tracks on “Avino” such as the unstoppable third track, “456,” have a panache that is all their own.

Lo.Lux's mixes on the “Avino” LP show a wide variety of styles. From the old-school, live-drums groove of “The South” (Track 5) to the 808s and 909s sound of “Game of Thrones” and “Experimental” (Tracks 7, 8) to the more complex and electronic tones of “Fear” and “Bands 'n' Girls” (Tracks 8, 13), Lo.Lux's music has a little something from nearly every area of hip hop and drum 'n' bass, and from other genres of music as well.

Asked to comment on the themes inherent on “Avino,” Lo.Lux write simply that, “It's OK to question yourself sometimes…”

Nevertheless, few questions remain after a complete listen of “Avino.” Stylish, crisp and cool, the album manages to be both intelligent and relaxed, cruising yet declarative. A record capable of intriguing both the casual listener and the dedicated audiophile, Lo.Lux's “Avino” can be listened to in nearly every conceivable circumstance, but lends itself especially to a mellow atmosphere where its subtleties can be enjoyed without raucous interruption.

“Avino” by Lo.Lux is available online worldwide (links provided below). Get in early.

Emma Stenbeck releases new single 'Something About You'

The singer and songwriter from New Zealand known as Emma Stenbeck has released her long-awaited new single, “Something About You.” The track has been co-written and produced by popular NZ artist, Mphatic, and published on the Li'l Dog Records New Zealand music label. Classy, stylishly smooth and darkly sensual, “Something About You” by Emma Stenbeck is a pop single that will appeal to fans of any music genre.

Stenbeck cites a long list of music legends as main artistic influences that shows her fine musical taste. She includes Jewel, Adele, Amy Winehouse, Katy Perry, Gwen Stefani, Duffy, Lily Allen, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Etta James, Train, Elton John, Peggy Lee, and Gloria Gaynor.

“I could go on forever!” she writes.

Of the aforementioned, Stenbeck's tone on “Something About You” lies mostly between Amy Winehouse and Etta James, which is not as far a sonic distance as one might suspect. Her high-gloss, bluesy yet feminine crooning on “Something...” is perfectly paired against the tasteful, sonorous bass bumps played deep in the groove which form the primary musical accompaniment. Choruses are filled with tidal synths flowing in dark neon, violet colors and give Stenbeck's voice a velvet backdrop against which to sparkle.

“I have been working alongside a great producer and songwriter – Mphatic – to co-write this track,” writes Stenbeck. “We wrote this track along with many others we are working on that are to be released as an EP in the coming months.”

Speaking of the theme of “Something About You,” which is alternately titled “S.A.Y.,” she comments:

“This single talks about having that special someone in your life – who just has something about them that makes you feel calm and know that everything is going to be OK no matter what is going on in your life. It's a song about celebrating 'The Rock in Your Life' you can rely on! It's a song about love and appreciation for them and their character.”

Emma Stenbeck has been writing and performing music from a very young age and has made a name for herself in her native scene in Auckland and elesewhere. Stenbeck, her producer Mphatic and label Li'l Dog Records New Zealand have been proud and enthusiastic about their growing roles in the New Zealand music scene.

“I am so excited to finally share 'Something About You' with all of my amazing fans and followers,” writes Stenbeck. “I’ve been working for awhile now on quite a few different tracks and it has been an exciting process – it truly is a dream come true.”

Fourtitude release debut LP 'Folk Legend'

The alt-rock crew known as Fourtitude have released their debut LP record, “Folk Legend.” The album is comprised of 11 original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 45 minutes. It has been released independent of support from the corporate music industry. One of the first and best examples of a legitimate return to the garage-rock sound of the 1990s, Fourtitude's “Folk Legend” has moments both of great tenderness and unrestrained aggression.

Fourtitude cite as main artistic influences the Beatles, Nirvana, Weezer, Smashing Pumpkins, and Pink Floyd. Various attributes of each appear clearly throughout “Folk Legend,” often fading into one another from song to song, or even from movement to movement in the same track. Audiophiles will note the sudden clear-channel switch of Weezer, the driving punch of Smashing Pumpkins circa Siamese Dream, and even some chest-tearing vocals that recall the unashamed and unforgiving screeches of Kurt Cobain.

Speaking of the themes written into “Folk Legend,” Fourtitude write that it's about: “Not letting the past weigh you down, preventing your ascent into the future. What does it mean to be somebody versus nobody? Having the courage to be yourself when being yourself isn’t popular. The worthlessness of consumerism.”

On a lighter note, however, “It is also a musical biography of ourselves during our college years, through the eyes of a former band mate. The places we’ve been and the people we know, and all of our fears, insecurities, legends, and demons.”

The “Folk Legend” record was recorded at a band member's house over the course of two months. The official Fourtitude bio states that “'Folk Legend' is a story about growing up, going to college, discovering yourself, and eventually moving on. It was recorded on a budget of less than 400 dollars, and is considered by the band members to be a true concept album.”

Joshua Smotherman of Middle Tennessee Music writes, “'Folk Legend' is a journey through human growth in the form of 90s-alt-rock sonic goodness.”

Ezra Skye releases new gospel EP 'ACTS'

The composer and performer of ecclesiastic music known as Ezra Skye has released his latest EP album, “ACTS.” The record is comprised of five original songs for an approximate total listening time of 20 minutes. It has been released on the AryxMedia record label. A partly traditional, partly contemporary collection of gospel songs, “ACTS” is a record clearly created with Christians around the world in mind, but with the chief aim of praising and pleasing the Christian God.

Ezra Skye is very direct in describing his intentions for “ACTS,” which he reveals to be an acronym standing for the latter four singles on the record.

“The whole work is intended to accompany prayer,” writes Skye. “ACTS (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving and Supplication) is a means of praying similar to the structure of the Lord’s Prayer.”

The music is itself composed in such a way that each of these prayerful steps is reflected in the sound. Those unfamiliar with the Lord's Prayer as described in the Biblical book of Matthew may find a faithfully rendered modern version in Skye's “ACTS.”

“[Prayer starts] with a focus on God,” Skye writes, “hence Adoration having a big crescendo as all humanity joins in to worship Him. Then it moves to Confession – musically indicating darker tones, hinting at discord and a struggle with surrender and peace at the end. Thanksgiving unfolds with a joyful beat and a celebratory character. Finally there is Supplication – what one asks for of God in prayer – the first part being the request, hazy, not all fitting together (do we ever know what we really want?) and then the piano part being the answer – steady and consistent, if not a bit unpredictable, but with finality signified by the strings at the very end.”

As artistic influences Skye cites classic rock artists such as Led Zeppelin and Supertramp, rock musicals, and classical music. Few attributes from these appear in his “ACTS” record, though certain drum beats do recall the steadiness of Supertramp and the up-tempos of “Jesus Christ Superstar.” That the album emphasizes Christ more than anything parallels Ezra Skye's personal music history.

“I started playing guitar and bass in rock bands back in high school,” he recalls. “From there I played in a number of local working bands until I moved to New York City in 1989. Most of my music in the last 20 years has been in church, leading worship music and writing worship music and Christian songs in general.”

Skye's official bio describes him as “a songwriter and composer of spiritually influenced music. With a background in musical theater, music and business college, years of experience with working bands and decades of worship music, Ezra Skye produces deeply thoughtful, joyful, and passionate music intended to inspire the listener.”

“ACTS” by Ezra Skye is available online worldwide beginning 6 April 2014.

Souls of Sophie releases new EP 'Departure'

The musical talent known as Souls of Sophie has released his latest EP, “Departure.” The EP is comprised of five original songs for an approximate total listening time of 20 minutes. It has been released on the Modern Wave Records music label. Shadowy, smooth and darkly stylish, the “Departure” EP from Souls of Sophie stands as evidence that the effects of dark wave music are still thriving to the delight of thousands around the world.

An official bio from Souls of Sophie describes their music as modern-wave music. It describes modern wave as “cathartic post-punk delving in surreal sonic landscapes yet delivering a punchy sound.” The music is exceptional in its adherence to minimalist sound forms. It's spaciousness shows an adept use of quiet in bringing every note to the foreground, while its subtle melody lines manage to be both intuitive and remarkably catchy.

Souls of Sophie cite as main artistic influences many of the keystones of the sound, such as Depeche Mode, the Chameleons UK, the Cure, New Order, Joy Division, and Sisters of Mercy. While fans of these artists will undoubtedly appreciate Souls of Sophie's unique spin on the general mood and tone of the above, Souls of Sophie also admits inspiration from less obvious sources, such as James, Suede, Naked Eyes, Ocean Blue, OMD, Pixies, Radiohead, Slowdive, Erasure, and even the Sex Pistols, though fewer nods to these appear on “Departure” except thematically.

Regarding these overall themes, Souls of Sophie writes that “'Departure' is about escape: from your current situation ('Wonderland'), from your own mind ('Transition'), from material excess ('Nothing'), from your past ('Never Again').”

Each great escape is represented in its own dedicated song on the “Departure” EP. Only “Broken,” appropriately located at the dead center of the powerful little record, does not have an obvious tie to ideals of independence and egression.

Souls of Sophie is currently piloted as a solo project though the preceding record, the “Dusk” EP, was recorded with the collaboration of other members. The truth remains that Souls began as a one-man band, however.

“I taught myself how to play the guitar my junior year of college” writes Souls, “and then the year I 'took off' from school, I began recording songs using a primitive setup consisting of a dual tape deck and a bass amp. A year later, after graduating college and upgrading my studio (through the use of my first credit card!) I recorded my first set of songs released as Souls of Sophie, the band/project name inspired by a character from the movie 'The Razor’s Edge.'”

“Departure” by Souls of Sophie is available online worldwide beginning 4 April 2014. An official music video from SoS is also in production.

Royalty Rulez releases new EP 'Entree and Canape'

The British hip hop project known as Royalty Rulez has released his latest EP album, “Entree and Canape.” The album is comprised of ten original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 35 minutes. Royalty Rulez has proudly released his record as an entirely independent artist. A fresh and exotic sonic blend of old-school rap sensibilities and contemporary rhythm 'n' groove, “Entree and Canape” is one of the most intriguing and entertaining hip hop EPs of 2014 so far.

Royalty Rulez (also sometimes called “Double-R”) cites as main musical influences such artists as Nas, Reggie Rockstone, D-Block, NWA, Lauren Hill and 50 Cent. From these he takes a smattering of attributes, particularly in the general tone of his back beats and high production value of his album. However the overall Royalty Rulez sound is easy to distinguish as his own.

A prolific songwriter and performer, the “Entree and Canape” EP follows Royalty Rulez's shorter “Hors D’oeuvres” EP, released just four months prior in January of 2014.

“I've always loved the sound of music since a young age,” he writes, noting that he does not mean the Julie Andrews musical. “I couldn't resist the burning desire to make my own music. Music makes me happy and does things to my mind that [nothing else] can match.”

Asked to expound upon the intended meaning of his new EP, Royalty Rulez writes, “The message I share with listeners is to be who you are and to be sincere to your way of life.” A simple, yet profound slogan appears on his official Facebook page: “If money was less, would our lives be more?”

Royalty Rulez is a 25-year-old Londoner, rapper, songwriter, and music producer. He was a Leukemia survivor by 19, having successfully battled the life-threatening illness with the aid of a bone-marrow transplant provided by his sister. His official bio describes his serious start in music during his final year of college:

“His love for music and the desire to join in its creation overwhelmed that of anything else in his life. He set up a budget studio at his home, experimented with beat making and after some time, amassed a catalogue of songs with a wider variety and commercial appeal than one might expect.”

It also notes that “The 'Entrée & Canapé́ Project' is mostly produced and mastered by Royalty Rulez but gains from rich contributions made by the likes of Gareth Johnson at Standalone Productions on the song 'Boom Beat Badda Bang Rap,'” the album's opening track.
