Tom Newman releases new LP 'The Secret Life of Angels'

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –

Music composer Tom Newman, who produced Mike Oldfield's iconic, multimillion-selling album “Tubular Bells” and founded Virgin Records with Sir Richard Branson, has released his latest record, “The Secret Life of Angels.” The album has an approximate total listening time of 45 minutes and has been released on the Viral Discs and Downloads music label. An instrumental record with both spiritual and mythic themes and Irish, pastoral overtones, “The Secret Life of Angels” is a highly imaginative, refreshing album for fans of any music genre.

“The Secret Life of Angels” might well be cataloged as contemporary classical music. Its sonorous highs and lows tell the wordless tales of Catholic heroes and characters such as Raphael, Gabriel, and Lucifer himself.

Newman writes of this underlying plot: “The one thing that eludes the beautiful ones is that they cannot, being immortals, feel the fascinating, strange and fearful press of mortality. For instance, 'Raphael’s Bicycle' – the experience of learning to ride a bike is something the Archangel Raphael would cherish.”

“The Secret Life...” is populated with many more such vignettes. The “Angel Freeway” moves with rhythmic contentment and bustling subtlety. Uriel, who helped to bury Adam and Abel in the book of Genesis, contemplates a well-kept secret. Michael also has much to consider in “Michael's Conflict.” Raphael, previous to his attempt to ride a bicycle, dances a gorgeous, flowing sarabande. Tom Newman composes music to evoke intuitive and colorful emotions as if he were seeing these stories unfold firsthand.

Hearing him describe the experience of the angels, one is almost convinced that he does see them so.

“Through the machinery of our consciousness,” he writes, “the angels see and feel and have discourse, however the taste and timbre of our feelings towards ourselves and our fate, our despair, fears, aspirations and concerns are all complex combinations of DNA, upbringing, education and cultural influence. These are feelings that are denied the creatures of air.”

The result is an inspirational and mildly blue one.

“This music is their sadness, their yearning to experience the frisson of physical danger.”

“The Secret Life of Angels” by Tom Newman is available now from the Viral Discs and Downloads website (link provided below) and from hundreds of sites online in the very near future.
