FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –
The Steersmen have released their debut
LP record, “High-Tech Low Lifes.” The album contains 11 original
tracks for 35 minutes' listening time. It has been released on the
Blue Morpho Recordings music label. Part indie, part psychedelic and
part shoegaze rock, “High-Tech Low Lifes” stands as the
definitive Steersmen record and heralds the beginning of what is sure
to be a long and storied music career.
The Steersmen cite as main artistic
influences Cotton Mather, John Maus, and Deerhunter. Certain
attributes of each make up the groovy, sonic amalgam that is the
Steersmen sound, but none so much as Cotton Mather. Followers of the
legendary indie group will be greatly enthused to hear “High-Tech
Low Lifes,” as will fans of Pink Floyd and John Bonham. Highly
stylized, infused with retro frills and charged with that
unmistakable shoegazer gravitas, “High-Tech Low Lifes” has a
great deal of variety, complexity, and scope of emotion.
The band's official bio describes their
album as having a “hazy, dream-like atmosphere, percussive and deep
drums, and introspective lyrics.” The lyrics, in fact, deserve
mention outside the context of their musical accompaniment. Rhyme
schemes on “High-Tech...” are often carried consistently
throughout entire tracks. Multisyllabic word matches are the norm
from song to song, producing a hypnotic effect that deceptively
begins to feel usual. Come for the music; stick around for the
striking wordplay.
The Steersmen are a duo from Chicago,
IL. Their first official release, an EP titled “Later That Night,”
continues to garner positive reviews in the looming shadow of their
debut full-length record. Speaking of the themes of “High-Tech Low
Lifes,” they write,
“A lot of artists create as a way of
expressing their feelings, but we sort of wanted to do the exact
opposite of that on this record. It's really all about escapism and
creating a mini, alternate reality inside the headphones.”
Mission (very) accomplished.
“High-Tech Low Lifes” by the
Steersmen is available online worldwide beginning 11 April 2014. Get
