New York's DJ SeanKev releases new LP 'HouseFunkysco'

New York's famous spinner of vinyl records known as DJ SeanKev has released his latest LP record, “HouseFunkySco.” The long-playing album comprises 16 original tracks for an approximate total listening time of nearly one hour, making for a comprehensive serving of the mix master's material. It has been proudly published on the Seankev Records independent music label without the involvement of the corporate music industry. Aptly named, “HouseFunkysco” is packed with endless amounts of funk and groove, and represents one of the best examples of the 1990s tradition of mixing beats from vinyl to be released in more than 20 years.

DJ Seankev hails from NYC's Queens area, where he learned to spin and mix vinyl albums in the 1980s and '90s. Often referred to in purist DJ circles as “Doctor of the Mix,” Seankev has been a traditional house-music DJ since the very innovation of the sound.

“I, myself, have been influenced by past and present DJs from around the world,” he writes, “but what separates me is my unique style of how I mix and play.”

This style was standard nearly three decades ago when the musician was learning the ropes from legends like producer Boyd Jarvis. But today, even headlining giants like Deadmau5 have pointed out that many modern DJs simply “press play” on a CD player and do precious little else during live performances. By contrast, SeanKev's shows are analog and non-digital. His discs are high-quality vinyl, many of them prized antiques in pristine condition. His record collection is a work of art in itself, bearing the highly selective taste of their owner.

SeanKev's new release, “HouseFunkysco,” showcases the aplomb with which he brings these beats and sounds together from albums pressed long ago. In his music old and new are seamlessly blended. His LP is a fresh group of songs imagined through an old tradition, realized by mixing classic, vintage records for a brand-new, 2015 release.

“My album shares a real, divine message of dancing and of feeling free to the music,” writes the DJ of his new LP. “It gives off a certain vibe to the body and soul, takes a person back in the good-old days in New York City when the clubs of my era in the '90s were 'the place to be.' I had a real good time producing this sound for the world to enjoy.”

SeanKev has performed live with titans like Natasha Diggs, among others. A characteristically humble man, he outspokenly believes that the sound of soul music can spiritually heal a person and align their chakras. He considers the uniformly positive reaction of dancers at his live shows to be living proof of this.

“HouseFunkysco” by DJ SeanKev is available online worldwide. Get in early, fans of beats and dance music. Very early.

DJ SeanKev releases new LP album 'HouseFunkysco'

The DJ from New York's Queens borough known as DJ SeanKev has released his latest LP album, “HouseFunkysco.” The record comprises 16 original tracks for an approximate total listening time of a full hour. It has been published on the AMAdea Music record label. Funky, groovy, and packed with the genuine nightclub sound of the early 1990s, “HouseFunkysco” is the latest example in DJ SeanKev's growing repertoire that he may be Queens' most talented emcee on wax.

DJ SeanKev is notable for his rock-solid skills at matching beats, sculpting a playlist, and creating colorful, inventive new material from mere fragments of audio. But what marks SeanKev as truly outstanding is his devotion to the authentic methods and traditions of disc-jockeying: he does it all with vinyl records from the period. His disco comes from the '70s. His old-school beats come from the '80s. Now, with this latest installment, SeanKev proves that he can do it with the sounds of the early 1990s.

“I'm releasing my second dance album which contains some real, vintage, funky, '90s-style house music,” writes SeanKev.

SeanKev's other LP releases, “1982 Disco, Funk and Soul” and “Soul Trap Music,” have been garnering him a loyal and populous following since their releases in 2013. These newcomers are only happy additions to a fan base he's been inspiring since his first performances in the clubs of the 1990s.

Speaking of “HouseFunkysco,” he writes: “My album shares a real divine message in dancing and feeling free to the music. It gives off a certain vibe to the body and soul. Takes a person back to the good old days in New York City, when the clubs of my era (the '90s) were the place to be.”

Make no mistake, SeanKev brings the funk and soul of the '80s alive just as well, but he's truly at home spinning music from 1990-1999, as the results show.

“I had a real good time producing this sound for the world to enjoy,” writes SeanKev.

SeanKev cites as main artistic influences Tee Scott, Larry Joseph, Boyd Jarvis, Larry Levan and “all the vintage club heads.” Sporting a well-deserved degree of fame in the old-school DJ subculture, SeanKev has mixed with some true, modern titans, Natasha Diggs among them.

DJ SeanKev has released his latest LP 'SeanKev 1982'

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –

The DJ from New York known as SeanKev has released his latest LP record album, “SeanKev 1982 Disco, Funk & Soul.” The album is entirely mixed in the traditional analog method, which utilizes hi-fi, 12” and 45 RPM vinyl records rather than digitized CD recordings. The result is a warm, true sound that preserves the genuine wavelengths of the actual, live sound captured on the vinyl medium. SeanKev's “1982” LP is comprised of 17 tracks and a mammoth bonus album mix, for an approximate total listening time of two-and-a-quarter hours. It has been released on the SeanKev Records music label.

“SeanKev 1982” is perhaps the only album of its kind to be officially published this millennium, the traditional disco-DJ art having given way to electronic house music DJs perhaps as early as 1990. SeanKev, who is often referred to by his professional nickname, “Doctor of the Mix,” was raised in Queens, NY during the 1980s. His uncle was a DJ for many years and helped to nurture his nephew's musical talent. SeanKev's record collection began twenty years ago, in 1994.

“My album is a vintage sound that dates back into the early '80s dance, funk and disco scene,” the artist writes. “It gives you an idea of that raw warmth sound from clubs like the Paradise Garage, and Zanzibar, and Happy Day’s.”

As a child, SeanKev would save his lunch money to buy records.

“Even as a youth,” his official artist's bio reads, “he felt that soul music was a way of life and a spiritual pathway to healing oneself.”

By 1995, he had begun creating professional-grade mixtapes that catered to the generation of his elders. As his bio tells it, “The older generation took him in as a son of soul music. While building his vast collection of abstract boogie and funk records, he became good friends with legendary producer, Boyd Jarvis, who was introduced to him through Ricky Wilcock. Boyd, who produced many classics in the '80s dance scene, taught SeanKev about the Paradise Garage, of which SeanKev’s father was a member. With this newfound knowledge, SeanKev realized the true value of the dance culture.”

SeanKev cites as main artistic influences such legends on wax as Tee Scott, Larry Joseph, Boyd Jarvis, Larry Levan and “all the vintage club heads.” Among these greats his name certainly belongs, as any listener will tell you after spending mere moments with any portion of “1982.” Sporting a well-deserved degree of fame in the old-school DJ subculture, SeanKev has mixed with some true modern titans, such as Natasha Diggs, as well as others.

A humble and highly spiritual music artist with impeccable taste and razor-sharp style to spare, DJ SeanKev earnestly believes that the sound of soul music can spiritually heal a person and align their chakras.

“SeanKev 1982” is available online worldwide. Get in early, disco, funk and soul fans.
