Bronston release new single 'Temples & Mines'

The modern alternative rock crew known as Bronston have released their latest official single, “Temples & Mines.” The track has been proudly published as an independent release without the involvement of the corporate music industry. Bringing powerful guitars, sweeping harmonies and a balanced dose of swagger, “Temples & Mines” showcases Bronston as one of the most intriguing modern alternative rock artists of the year so far and promises that they have plenty more where that came from.

Scotland's Bronston cite as main artistic influences Foals and Queens of the Stone Age, but fans of bands like Arctic Monkeys and Tame Impala will also find more than enough meat on the bone in “Temples...” Bronston's own sound takes elements from each of these and blends them into a result likely to please both audiophiles who like carefully plotted composition and carefree fans of radio-friendly pop rock alike. With an emphasis on songwriting, emotional draw and straight-up precision performance, “Temples & Mines” by Bronston has a little something for everybody.

Having worked with Rod Jones (Idlewild) on their first two releases of 2019 – ‘Leaving Utopia’ and ‘Burnt Snakes’ – the band went on to release their self-produced ‘I’m Still A Fool’ at the end of the year. Now they are back, bigger and better than ever. Thanks to a new and thriving working relationship with A-list producer Luke Bovill, Bronston say they're confident releasing the most personal music of their career to date.

“'Temples & Mines' is a song about the struggle of managing your mental health,” writes singer Adam Campbell, “finding ways to keep on top of the challenges that life brings, and maintaining focus on the good things that motivate you to persevere through bad times. Sometimes when negative feelings start to hit you, it’s possible to notice what’s happening and take steps to break that downward spiral.”

That spiral and its remedy lie at the heart of their new single.

“You do something that gets the blood pumping, or you do something that gets the brain firing, or maybe you blow off some steam,” Campbell says. “The upbeat verse sections of 'Temples...' tell the story of that empowering feeling that comes from fighting to get through dark times and knowing
that you made the decisions to overcome what made you want to give up.”

Ultimately, it's a story of empowerment stemming from recognizing one's inner strength.

“Knowing that you can choose to embrace the challenges of life and that you can get to a better place is powerful,” writes Campbell.

Campbell wrote the song during a time of “little structure” in his life, Bronston's current official bio says, a time when he began: “to realise that he had to start taking charge of his own problems and start taking responsibility for making a positive difference to the world. He was beginning to see value in things he previously had not seen value in. He was realising that the structures, routines, and habits that come from Temples (people’s places of worship, places of enjoyment, or places of peace) and Mines (places of work) can have a profoundly positive impact on a person.”

Campbell didn't have either temples or mines as such, but he worked toward them using tools in himself he was only beginning to understand, the “little things that helped keep me sane through it all.” He has said that all his greatest achievements have come since writing this song, but that the hardest
periods of his life have come since, as well. Temples & Mines captures that balance. Ultimately
the dark side of this song wins out over the light, but it also conveys that while “Temples...” was being written, depression and anxiety were still winning more often than not.

There is a lot more to come from Bronston who are more ready than they have ever been to expose their vulnerabilities to the world in 2020. This is the first taste of a new animal.

Bronston are Adam Campbell on vocals and guitar, James Callaghan on backing vocals and bass, and Mark Hennys on drums and percussion.

“Temples & Mines” by Bronston is available from quality digital-music stores online worldwide now. Get in early, modern alternative rock fans.

It is the first single and title track from their upcoming debut album of the same name. Driving, charged with passion, and bringing that unstoppable power-pop sound squarely into the spotlight once again, “Let Tomorrow Be Like Yesterday” showcases Eventide as one of the most intriguing rock crews of the year so far and promises that they have plenty more where that came from.

San Diego's Eventide is the passion project of musician, singer and songwriter Todd S. Wonkka, who cites as main artistic influences Oasis, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, the Smiths, the Beatles, the Cure, and Depeche Mode. Eventide's own style takes elements from each of these and adds something fresh and unique for a result which will both win fans new to the sound and please longtime loyalists from everywhere. With an emphasis on irresistible hooks, infectious melody lines, and plenty of deep-pocket groove, “Let Tomorrow Be Like Yesterday” by Eventide has a little something for everybody, but particularly rock music lovers.

“What I love about rock 'n' roll is the independent platform it gives to humankind,” writes Eventide's Todd Wonkka. “Even if they’re not playing, performing, or singing it, they’re feeling it, riding the dissent into their own beautiful madness.”

Asked to describe the overall meaning of “Let Tomorrow Be Like Yesterday,” Wonkka says, “It’s about recognizing that there is something wrong with the world and we need to change.”

As timely as it is contemporary, “Let Tomorrow Be Like Yesterday” works as social commentary as well as strong tunes.

“I love music, plain and simple,” writes Wonkka. “But COVID-19 definitely had something to do with 'Let Tomorrow Be Like Yesterday' being my first release from the upcoming album. The theme of it fits the time.”

Originally from Massachusetts, Todd Wonkka moved west at the age of 18, where he found himself playing bass for Los Angeles rock band Barefoot Bride. After five years in LA, he picked up and moved to San Diego where today he teaches tennis and performs at local spots. A natural-born writer, Wonkka has written hundreds of songs, short stories, and a novel published 2019, “Under The Rug,” which describes the life of a Hollywood rock star.

“Thanks to my wife, Marissa, and my kids, Kade and Kanon for their support,” Wonkka says. “And to Ian Phillip, my friend and bass player, for his constantly amped attitude.”

Altro Sound releases debut EP album 'Deepest Point - Pt. 1'

The alternative rock crew known as Altro Sound have released their debut official EP album, “Deepest Point - Pt. 1.” The EP album contains four original Altro Sound tracks for an approximate total listening time of 15 minutes. It has been proudly published as an independent release without the involvement of the corporate music industry on the Independent record label. Rolling, eclectic, and bursting with style, “Deepest Point - Pt. 1” showcases Altro Sound as a surprise indie rock treat for Q1 this year, and promises that they're a name to watch in 2019 and beyond.

Toronto, Canada's Altro Sound cites as main artistic influences Amy Winehouse, Leon Bridges, Kings of Leon, Paolo Nutini, Sam Cooke, Ray Lamontagne, Radiohead, John Mayer, Interpol, and others. Of these, Altro Sound's “Deepest Point – Pt. 1” shares elements with Winehouse, Kings of Leon and Radiohead, but with a delivery slightly more Nick Cave than John Mayer. The juxtaposition helps to balance the tone of the record, which is likely to appeal to a broad spectrum of alt-rock and indie fans.

With an emphasis on clean, precise guitar work, raw, genuine vocals, and songwriting with one foot in alternative rock and the other in the American south, “Deepest Point - Pt. 1” by Altro Sound has a little something for everybody.

Asked to describe the overall theme of “Deepest Point - Pt. 1,” Altro Sound writes, “Our debut album is a collection of works written through the highs and lows of adolescence and young adulthood. It's about the beacons of hope and the letdowns aplenty one experiences when transitioning into a realm of self-direction; the early steps away from institutional socialization of school and into the real world, alone.”

“Deepest Point – Pt. 1” has a clear aim, in fact, one which reaches the listener before the opening track is through. Altro Sound want to comfort.

“The message of music brings security in times when one is most alone and unfamiliar,” they write. “We want to share that gift – the feeling of unity within the human condition to others through vocally driven, lyrical accounts of growing up.”

Altro Sound's “Deepest Point” Parts 2 and 3 are scheduled to drop on Feb. 1 and Mar. 1, respectively.

Eric Slater releases new single 'Following the Blind'

The Los Angeles-based musician known as Eric Slater has released his newest single, “Following the Blind.” The single is Slater's most significant musical release since his popular song, “Dead Men” hit digital shelves around the world in February, sending ripples throughout the audiophile underground everywhere. Fans of Slater old and new are sure to be delighted with this latest offering, which boasts all the exceptional sonic qualities his following have come to expect from him.

Speaking candidly of the themes of his latest single, Slater writes, “'Following the Blind' was directly inspired by a short story from a good friend of mine. He shared the idea with me and I wrote the song with the general theme in mind, but putting more of a personal twist on it.”

“Following the Blind” is a parable of timeless proportion and relevance that has many current events at heart. It speaks to everyone alive in today's chaotic world.

“The song touches on the sheep and the shepherd thing. Everyone thinks they have the answer, yet no one really has much of a clue. Heroes can easily become villains and vice versa. I guess you can say it’s a satire on the absurdity and fickleness of popular opinion.”

Slater cites as main artistic influences a broad array of sounds, including Beethoven, Jimi Hendrix, Nina Simone, Sublime, Wu Tang Clan, Jeff Buckley, and Miles Davis.

Slater's acoustic solo debut album, “On the Edge of Something More,” was released in 2005. He has contributed his vast talents to various acts, including guitars, songs and vocals to bands such as Martha Davis and the Motels, Bomb Squad, Moflo, Off Limits, Aurora Beckons, Astral Aliens, and Tres Aliens.

“Following the Blind” by Eric Slater is available online worldwide.

Eric Slater releases new single “Dead Men”

Musician Eric Slater has released his newest single, “Dead Men.” The track is an introspective, triumphant, yet darkly bleak rock waltz that plays on mortality for its theme. It is the first published single for Slater as a solo artist since his 2007 LP release, “Redemption & Disorder,” the light and airy nature of which shares few characteristics with the lurking and sinister, “Dead Men,” except that both are quality works of music from the same artist. In many respects, though, “Dead Men” is the superior result.

Slater's guitaring, though he is capable of playing in a wide variety of styles, is slowly strummed for this track in a black and blue tone that contains goth and punk-rock tendencies, reminiscent of Nick Cave's work, or of TSOL's mellower side (“Weathered Statues,” for instance). The song is crooned out by Slater in an intimate, cracking voice that sounds like a shadowy and more masculine Neil Young with a tinge of David Bowie, like the Verve's Richard Ashcroft, although more mid-west American in the delivery.

It is to the track's benefit that Slater's vocals are way out front in the single's mix, too, because his performance is a studied, yet natural perfection, showcased plainly here where he can be enjoyed without too much ornamentation to get in the way. The real show-stopper, though, is almost certainly Slater's songwriting. His lyrics are poetic, precise, and use a mixture of repetition and creative phrasing that keeps the narrative of “Dead Men” interesting from turn to turn; however, it is important to note that the vocals and instrumentation, together with a groove that tit-tat's along like the wheels of a carriage on cobblestones, are more than enough to keep a music fan's interest alone.

“Dead Men” represents the culmination of Slater's last six years spent meticulously honing his talents as a solo performer, and if the music world has much more of this to look forward to from him, then the sooner his next full-length is ready for distribution, the better off it will be for music listeners everywhere.

Eric Slater's “Dead Men” is available everywhere beginning 16 February 2013.

Texas-based Indie duo The Disappearing Act release new album “Born to Say Goodbye.”

The independent alternative music duo known as The Disappearing Act have released their latest record, “Born to Say Goodbye.” The LP is proudly released by independent label HIT Records (Dallas, TX) and published by Houdini Escape Music (El Paso, TX). Genuine, natural, full of harmony and acoustic grace, “Born to Say Goodbye” from The Disappearing Act is real music by real people for fans of good things everywhere.

The Disappearing Act consists of the music partnership of Salim Nourallah and Bob Blumenfeld, who cite among their many artistic influences the Beatles and Wilco. The resulting music produced by the duo offers a complimentary blend of acoustic and electronic sounds. Like sonic novelists, Nourallah and Blumenfeld use their unique tone as paper on which they write a true and melancholy tale. This story has been called “a painfully personal masterpiece, with an almost ear-to-the-wall intimate atmosphere that permeates the ten-song collection, each chronicling the dissolution of Nourallah's marriage.”

In “Born to Say Goodbye” the Disappearing Act utilize a combination of production, instrumental, and compositional genius to arrive at artistic purity surpassing what the most critical audiophiles would come to expect, left alone from an independent act from Texas. Much of this is due to the unassuming cleverness in Blumenfeld's chord progressions, with much also to Nourallah's unabashed self-expression.

“I'd come out to my studio, when I was feeling emotionally beat-up from what I was going through and just sit down with the tracks,” Nourallah writes. “I never put pen to paper to write the words; basically it was all free association.”

Not unlike the famous poetry method of William S. Burroughs, Nourallah cut-and-pasted sections of his song to make a working narrative. “If we'd been in the ‘60s trying to write songs like this, we'd have been cutting up pieces of recording tape and taping them together, but in essence that's what I was using the computer to do.”

The Disappearing Act's “Born to Say Goodbye” LP is the second official album from the group. It is preceded by their self-titled debut record which hit digital shelves in 2010 on Tortilla Records.

And as for the band name?

“One reason we call it the Disappearing Act is that we never had any intention of being a performing band,” writes Nourallah. “We never had any intention of performing live, or making it into something more than a songwriting project. So, it seemed like an amusing and fitting name for the group because in essence the act has disappeared before it ever existed.”

“Born to Say Goodbye” by the Disappearing Act is available online worldwide. Fans of indie music everywhere should get in early.

Ajax Ray O'Vaque releases new LP 'Dreaming in Subtitles'

The gold and platinum record producer not-usually-known known as Ajax Ray O'Vaque has released his latest alt-rock album, “Dreaming in Subtitles.” The LP comprises 12 original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 45 minutes. It has been published as an independent release outside the scope of the corporate music industry. Eclectic, grooving, catchy, accessible, radio-friendly and featuring some of the most naturally flowing songwriting ever recorded, “Dreaming in Subtitles” is a startling reminder that – this – is how much excellence can be crammed into a single album.

Ajax Ray O'Vaque is not Ajax Ray O'Vaque's real name. Operating in a clutch of Los-Angeles-based, professional recording studios, music producer and performer O'Vaque is actually the holder of 12 gold and platinum music awards. He has rubbed elbows with the likes of Prince and Elton John, and worked on no fewer than 30 songs with Duran Duran over five years.

Asked to cite some artistic influences for his “Dreaming in Subtitles” record, Ajax Ray O'Vaque lists Beck, Brian Wilson, the Beatles, Flaming Lips, Babylon Zoo, and Tame Impala. Audiophiles with an ear for all (or really any) of the above are sure to appreciate this upbeat, colorful, and refreshingly original album.

That it is so unique in terms of mode and tone comes largely from the artist's refusal to claim a favorite music style.

“I used to be into electronica,” he writes, “but I really like recording real instruments. I like mixing the most-real sounds with one or two completely unreal sounds, then making them sound like they belong together.”

Appropriately, hearing “Dreaming in Subtitles” is often surreal as a result, with instrumentation blending in such a way as to make discerning the individual pieces unlikely and delightfully unnecessary. The music justifies itself. Taking it apart for analysis seems trite.

And what of the theme of his new album? Lyrically speaking, there's an awful lot of poetry going on, but it isn't a lofty LP. O'Vaque says of it, simply, “the Universe is a strange place and we are riding on a blue-green marble someone named 'Earth.'”

O'Vaque also piled thanks on his co-producer/writer Greg Ansin (whose equally remarkable band, La Machine De Rêve, just released their new “Steam Train” video and single) and mix engineer Karyadi Sutedja for what he called huge contributions, saying, “Without them it could have never reached the place it ended up.”

Tom Haugen of New Noise Magazine describes “Dreaming in Subtitles” as “Certainly experimental, but never to the point of alienating the listener … both breezy and rigid, cosmic and organic, and no two songs really sound that similar. From soaring rock with psyche undertones to calmer, atmospheric layers, there is something for everyone in this precise and accomplished album.”

The album has elsewhere been called “a concoction of new-wave, ’60s rock, ’90s indie and experimental pop that includes both synthetic and organic sounds. Sometimes busy and dark, other times light and airy, this one pertains to electro-pop, indie-rock and even prog-rock, and weaves in sonic beauty and mesmerizing atmospheres.”

Thrice-Grammy-Award-winning engineer John Frye calls it “An incredible album that is both familiar and brand new.”

All in all, it's worth everyone's time on this blue-green marble someone named “Earth” to give this pretty little platter a spin.

“Dreaming in Subtitles” by Ajax Ray O'Vaque is available online worldwide beginning 22 June 2015. Ladies and gentlemen, get in early. Very early.

Singer-songwriter Chris Hardy releases new rock LP 'Hey Goliath'

The singer and songwriter known as Chris Hardy has released his latest LP rock album, “Hey Goliath.” The record has been published on the Three Beans Music independent record label without the financial or managerial support of the corporate music industry. It comprises 10 original Hardy songs for an approximate total listening time of 35 minutes. Kaleidoscopic, evocative and endlessly original, “Hey Goliath” from Chris Hardy is easily one of the most impressive and enjoyable rock records to appear in years.

Asked to name some artistic influences, Chris Hardy cites Beck, Robyn Hitchcock, XTC, Foo Fighters, and Del Amitri. His own sound bears the same bursting originality and creativity which marked the 'alternative' category of the 1990s. Tempos, tones and tenors change on “Hey Goliath” with surprising versatility, yet Hardy's Sting-esque vocals and remarkable songwriting dovetail each of his songs for a consistent listen from start to finish. The result is a highly textured rock album with elements that span from power pop to alt- rock to bossa nova in nature, making up a record the audiophile can listen to again and again and again.

The ultra-high quality of Chris Hardy's new LP rings clear even moments after hitting 'play,' but Hardy reveals himself to be a modest musician even so.

“I discovered it was the only thing I could do even moderately well,” he writes. “So I kept it up!”

Humility or no, Hardy's “Hey Goliath” record sports some of the most interesting rock compositions and meticulously written lyrics to have ever come from the independent music realm. His unadorned style of singing allows for easy interpretation of his lines, many of which are humorous, all of which are catchy and fun.

Speaking of the overall theme of “Hey Goliath,” Hardy writes, “The main message is of the David & Goliath type – don't worry if you're a little guy, you have amazing abilities and can actually defeat the big guy.”

In keeping with the upbeat tone of the album, which often recollects music by They Might Be Giants and Mono Puff, his musical mission is a happy one.

“I'm trying to put out positive songs into the world to counter all the negativity,” writes Hardy.

“Hey Goliath” by Chris Hardy is available online worldwide beginning 9 May 2015. Get in early, music fans. Records this fun aren't made every day.

Comprising four original tracks for an approximate listening time of 16 minutes, “Temple Grey” represents a roundly comprehensive treatment of this powerful, pop-charged alt-rock group from New York City.

The band cites as musical influences artists reflecting their respective instruments and characters. These include Thom Yorke and Chino Moreno, the Cinematic Orchestra and the Mars Volta, Robert Fripp and Paul Masvidal, Secret Machines and Frightened Rabbit. They have described NYC, their base of operations, as “the most diverse community of musicians any city could have.”

Their “Temple Grey” EP is the band's fourth extended-play record release. Recorded by the band, themselves, it was mixed by Ted Young and mastered by Jessica Thompson.

The Vodka Tourists release album 'Almost Abandoned'

The purveyors of rock music known as the Vodka Tourists have released their latest EP record, “Almost Abandoned.” The EP has been proudly published on the Pontmorlais Records independent music label. At seven tracks and nearly 30 minutes long, it represents a comprehensive introduction to this striking rock group from south London. Originally released in June of 2014, “Almost Abandoned” is a real, modern incarnation of the true rock spirit which persists in the best groups from one era to the next.

Vodka Tourist leader John Hill has cited as main artistic influences such titans of the sound as the Byrds, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, and the Church. While elements of each are present in “Almost Abandoned,” it is perhaps a blend of the Byrds and the Church which most closely resembles the general mode and tone of Hill's songwriting and delivery.

The Vodka Tourists' minimalistic, (almost) low-fi approach to studio recording will endear this record to fans of power pop and alt-rock bands like Dramarama and the Replacements, while his unstoppably natural songwriting will inspire awe in anyone with an ear for the craft. Fans of verve-charged and versatile classic-rock groups such as the Kinks, the Animals and the Zombies will also appreciate Hill's straightforward, kick-through-the-fence songwriting. A simple visit to the Vodka Tourists' official Soundcloud site is likely to guarantee a new fan within moments (link provided below).

Asked to describe what “Almost Abandoned”'s overall theme might be, Hill writes, “[It's] the message of the power of timeless, guitar-driven music that will take you back to a special time and place or transport you forward to a place that's yet to be discovered.”

The Vodka Tourists' current official bio reads:

“The Vodka Tourists is the brainchild of John Hill, who writes, records, performs and produces all the material from a studio in the depths of south London. The VT's sound reflects The John's strong Celtic roots, particularly in the imagery of the lyrics.Chiming guitars mixed with haunting lyrics and melodies that stir images of loss and melancholy are the classic hallmarks of the VT's sound.”
