The writer and producer of music known
as Uwe Grunwald has released his latest trance single, “Personal
Devil.” The track has been proudly published as an independent
release outside the influence of the corporate music industry.
Upbeat, spacious, catchy, dance-inspiring and faithfully composed in
the original trance-music tradition, “Personal Devil” by Uwe
Grunwald is a surprise treat from one of Europe's most tasteful
composers of digital music today.
Uwe Grunwald, when asked to name his
musical influences, says simply that he likes “all kinds of music –
except mainstream.”
Accordingly, he makes music which has
its roots in the European underground scene of the early 1990s:
trance.
“I am used to making music since I
was a child,” writes Grunwald. “I played a lot of instruments
over the years … but now I am interested in electronic music.”
That he has only recently come to
publish electronic music is surprising. His “Remember the Past”
EP (which has not been officially declared except as an offering on
his SoundCloud page) consists of five singles, one of which is
“Personal Devil,” its closing track. “Personal Devil” and
Grunwald's other hit, “Hard Times,” each sport over 1,000 plays
on SoundCloud alone – a striking accomplishment considering these
songs have only been available for listening for two months.
Uwe Grunwald describes his music as,
“very mystic and dark,” noting also that all of his songs,
“contain real stories of my personal life.”
Music by Grunwald certainly has a
shadowy timbre and a subtle intensity which builds and recedes, then
builds and recedes again, like an ocean tide with strong emotional
undercurrents. It is also masculine and adventurous music, however,
music which assures, encourages and invigorates. These high-energy
attributes make it excellent music for solo listening through earbuds
or headphones, as well as perfect ammunition for the expert nightclub
DJ.
All in all, “Personal Devil” by Uwe
Grunwald is a standout example that the truest, purest spirit of
electronic music is very much alive in the world, evidence which can
be heard everywhere there's a computer with a modem and some
speakers, right now.
“Personal Devil” by Uwe Grunwald is available online worldwide. Get in early, fans of trance music. Stuff like this doesn't come out every day.
