Mnandi releases new LP record ‘Nice Is Never Enough’

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –

The composer and rapper known only as Mnandi has released his newest LP record, “Nice is Never Enough,” to resounding fan and critical acclaim. The album is comprised of 15 original Mnandi tracks for an approximate total listening time of 50 minutes, making for a round and comprehensive introduction to the growing Mnandi repertoire of music. It is the most significant body of work to be officially released by the artist, and is his debut record on the Swazi Jive music label.

In addition to the expansive talents of Mnandi himself, “Nice Is Never Enough” also features the talents of Swazi Jive musicians and Mnandi friends such as Kikwa, Qibho, Lyriss, LO, YnV, and Ebz.

Having been asked to cite a few of his own main artistic influences, Mnandi names only two: Micheal Jackson and the Notorious B.I.G. Now a student of Oklahoma University with a major in advertising, he describes his musical roots as a lifelong, broadly sweeping chain of causes and effects that led to his signing with Swazi Jive, and the present publication of his new LP record.

“My love and involvement stems from a long line of external influences,” he writes, “such as family and friends. The desire to recreate and have some input in music as a whole resulted in my involvement.”

The themes and messages his record communicates to fans of hip hop and other audiophiles are introspective and personal, but also very sociological. The title of his record, “Nice Is Never Enough,” speaks loudly, clearly, and concisely, but it is also a clever acronym.

“It’s a combination of internal and external feelings expressed through metaphors,” Mnandi writes, “metaphors of what it meant to be who I was in the gap between when I was NINE and when the LP was released.”

Nine is the age at which Mnandi began rapping. He was born and raised in Swaziland, Southern Africa. He is also the composer of the hit hip-hop single, “Overload,” by the award-winning DJ and producer, Tendaness.

“Nice Is Never Enough” by Mnandi is available online worldwide 3 October 2013.

Grand Cru release new single 'Shadows'

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –

The Australian crew of pop rock performers known as Grand Cru have released their latest and most popular track to date, titled, “Shadows.” The track has been released internationally and is climbing charts on the World Wide Web such as Triple J's Unearthed.com, where they had garnered the seventh spot with much upward momentum as of mid-September. The track is being concurrently released with its official music video, available soon. A subtle song with powerful undercurrents and unique overtones native to the Grand Cru sound alone, “Shadows” is certain to add yet another chapter to the five-piece ensemble from Melbourne's passionate cult following.

This Grand Cru sound resists efforts to categorize it for the sake of an easy description. It has the patient masculinity of 1990s alternative rock, the catchy grooviness of pop music, and elements even of traditional Irish music. They cite as main artistic influences bands such as Stereophonics, Pearl Jam, Iron and Wine, and Days of the New. Music by Grand Cru on Amazon.com is schizophrenically listed as folk, miscellaneous, pop, and rock, while Unearthed.com simply pigeonholes them as indie pop. Listeners will say without fail that they have a driving, optimistic sound all their own.

The themes explored in “Shadows,” (not entirely unlike their popular single, “Wither”) are introspective in nature yet the anthem discusses something to which most of humanity can relate. When asked to describe the inherent message “Shadows” has in store for listeners, Grand Cru writes,

“A message of hope and perseverance in an otherwise difficult climate. We tackle the issues of depression and hardship with a view that all things can be overcome.”

With the World Health Organization approximating that 350 million persons currently suffer from depression worldwide, it seems certain that Grand Cru will be helping people leave their shadows through their particular brand of soul-stirring music all over the globe.

“Shadows” by Grand Cru is available online everywhere beginning October 2013.

Tom Newman and Paul Brett release 'Tubular Bells' by the Children of Ireland

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –

Music legends Tom Newman and Paul Brett have released their latest single, “Tubular Bells” by the Children of Ireland. The song, originally written and made famous by Mike Oldfield in 1973, is most widely recognized as the theme song for “The Exorcist,” but was also the springboard for the fledgling Virgin Records company founded by Newman himself with Sir Richard Branson. This new rendition is literally performed by Irish children, including those with autism spectrum disorder and various other handicaps.

Newman was the producer of the original, multimillion-selling “Tubular Bells” LP, and is also the producer of the new version (co-produced by Steve Fearnley). Paul Brett is one of the world's top 12-string guitarists, a leading vintage guitar expert, and internationally known music journalist. “Tubular Bells” by the Children of Ireland is the flagship debut release single of Newman and Brett's new Viral Discs and Downloads record label. The full-length Children of Ireland LP, “Tubular Bells,” will follow.

“The idea was to bring to younger musicians the opportunity of recreating classic albums,” writes Brett, “and to record them in situ with many sections actually being recorded in the classroom. It is a wonderful opportunity for kids to take part and experience the creation of world-famous music, right in the security of their own environment.”

This compassionate musical project may seem ambitious, but Brett assures that it's merely the spearhead of a larger undertaking.

“Tom intends to undertake similar projects in the future that not only bond together children and young people, but also communities and even countries through the medium of popular music.”

The Children of Ireland's “Tubular Bells” also commemorates the original Oldfield record and the birth of Virgin Music 40 years ago, but it has taken titanic effort and dedicated commitment, particularly on the part of Newman.

Brett writes, “[For years] Tom took his mobile recording studio into school classrooms and recorded children across Ireland to bring his dream of spreading such iconic albums to young musicians and communities, even countries.”

Newman and Brett are taking every advantage of their built-up inertia, too.

“All profits from the single will be reinvested in a similar project,” they write, “so that we may have a platform to introduce young musicians into the world of popular music. Please support our goals and purchase a copy.”

Ground and Leaves releases new LP album 'Our Moods'

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –

The Italian singer and songwriter known only as Ground and Leaves has released his latest LP record album, titled “Our Moods.” The record is comprised of 12 original tracks for an approximate listening time of 43 minutes. A true independent record release, it faithfully continues the style and tradition of the early indie music artists and marks a place for Ground and Leaves in the annals of modern folk music history.

The sound of Ground and Leaves is warm, natural, and recalls music from artists such as Nick Drake and Bob Dylan. The artist himself cites influences in broad groups, saying, “[I appreciate] folk, indie, country music, and artists like Mason Jennings, Elliot Smith…”

“Our Moods” is mature music for introspective and intelligent listeners, but also calming and soothing atmosphere music, suitable for the home at virtually all hours of the day. To call it “mood music” is entirely appropriate, as the album is very aptly named. It is not all about emotion, however, and the hub of “Our Moods” is the web of intelligent phrases and ideas threaded throughout it.

Concerning the themes and topics of the album, Ground and Leaves writes:

“I write about war, love, life, and hope. Some songs talk about the sadness and frustration in seeing the bad reality that surrounds us, while other songs talk about the beauty around us that we should defend and appreciate more. I don’t know if there is a message but I hope to make listeners think about what they’ve listened to, even if for a little while.”

“Our Moods” is the third offering from Ground and Leaves. “Grain of Sand” appeared in 2012 showcasing Ground and Leaves as a ukelele performer, bearing only two tracks on which he is not accompanied by the island instrument. “The Red Stone” followed in 2013. Both records are available at jamendo.com and may be freely downloaded.

Doyle releases new single 'Kalimba Reign'

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –

The composer, producer and performer of music known as Doyle has released his latest single, titled “Kalimba Reign (The Interlude) Instrumental.” The track has been released on the Track Universe music record label, and produced by Recordmixproduce 9g2o. A fine representation of Doyle music in a vein not often ventured today, “Kalimba Reign” is an excellent piece of songwriting that is sure to put Doyle, Track Universe, and Recordmixproduce 9g2o on the map once and for all.

Doyle (who is also sometimes billed as Bobby D) has been making music for many years.

“I have been in the recording, producing game since 1999 (before the 20th century was outta time)” he writes. “[That was] just when the music industry was converting to digital from the analog format.”

An enterprising musician and producer, he pioneered a studio in downtown Green Bay called Track Universe, where he produced and promoted CDs for music artists performing in the local scene of the day.

“I also did local music showcases and promotions, including arranging radio interviews for artists, etc.,” he writes. “After 2005-2006 I decided to get away from the business of music to pursue other endeavors, but recently decided to make another go at it due to popular demand and an inclination to get back to doing what I'm good at.”

Doyle is also the producer, composer, and performer of such popular tracks as “Senorita” featuring Chico Black, “Shake, Shake” featuring T -Y, and “Revenge (Is It Worth Your Life?)” featuring Davenchi. His music through the years has variously been compared to that of Dr. Dre, Teddy Riley, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Curtis Mayfield #26, and Maurice White.

A kalimba, or thumb piano, is a small wooden box with metal teeth for keys. It is played by depressing the keys with one's thumbs and allowing them to spring back up, causing the key to vibrate and reverberate in the body of the instrument. Its tone is not unlike a vibraphone or xylophone's, though quieter, and is adored for its surprising richness when played by an expert thumb pianist. Doyle's “Kalimba Reign” is an instrumental piece written especially for thumb piano melody lines.

The Squeemo's release new single, 'Kristin Wil Is Trippin on Acid'

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –

The band known as the Squeemo's have released their latest single, titled “Kristin Wil Is Trippin on Acid.” The single has been published on the Infinitesolutions music record label. A bizarre, highly creative single with its heart on its sleeve and its mind in the eddying myriad of the cosmos, “Kristin Wil Is Trippin on Acid” is one of the most fun and imaginative sonic journeys available to audiophiles today.

The sound of “Kristin Wil Is Trippin on Acid” is akin to the tone of the band's name, the Squeemo's: strange, otherworldly, and with uncommon instruments playing unaccountable notes constantly coming in and going out at unlikely points in the song.

According to their official bio, the Squeemo's are purported to be “an extremely popular intergalactic band of shape-shifting aliens who have rocked the universe, planet by planet, sharing their eclectic brand of humorous fun-loving party music as they drunkenly zig-zag their way through the galaxy.”

Whether the enigmatic apostrophe in their band name denotes missing letters, possession, or an exotic form of alien contraction is as yet unknown. Having contacted the band's only human member, Squeemo's producer, translator and lead singer Richard Allen (Rickie Squeemo) for further information, we find that even he must admit ignorance of much Squeemo's history, though they formed the basis of his musical career.

“The Squeemo’s contacted me at a very early age,” he says.

R. Squeemo cites as the Squeemo's' main artistic influences such extraterrestrial (and controversial) performers as the Floovals, Waba Melika and the Penis Pumps, the Probes, the Deep-Space Dildos, and the Black Hole Slurpers.

He writes that the central theme of “Kristin Wil Is Trippin on Acid” is that “Pleasure is all around you; make it your daily quest in life.”

Lamar Smyly releases new LP 'Budlight'

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –

The singer and songwriter of country music known as Lamar Smyly has released his latest LP record, titled “Budlight.” The album is comprised of 16 original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 45 minutes, making it the most comprehensive collection of Smyly's songs to date. It is the most significant release by Smyly since his 1993 EP record, “Silence,” originally published on the Buckhead Records music label. An earnest revival of the classic country and western sound, “Budlight” by Lamar Smyly continues the journey begun by such early artists as Hank Williams and Roy Acuff, and is a genuine, modern example of the American country music tradition.

Lamar Smyly hails from South Carolina. The opening title track of his record is an ode to his beloved horse, Budlight.

“I was just a kid when I learned how to accompany myself on the guitar,” Smyly writes. “I started writing country songs in the mid seventies.”

He lives on the very same farm where he was raised, which has been in his family since the late 1700s (or shortly after the American Revolution). He cites as main musical influences the likes of Hank Williams, Sr., Johnny Horton, Gene Watson, Jon Conley, Waylon Jennings, Don Williams, and Tom T. Hall, as well as “many other great country artists.”

Audiophiles familiar with these songsmiths will note the common thread running from each to the others. These are country stars with deep roots in the original and most legitimate style of the genre. Some have even taken to calling it American folk music, and indeed, Smyly himself can be found pigeonholed as such from time to time.

“My songs are about real life,” he explains, “not just a song with a hookline. Most of my songs are about my experiences in life, or someone else’s that I know or have known. Like old Hank [Williams] my songs have deep feelings in them. I’ve written a few that are comical but most are about things that folks have experienced or will experience sometime in their life.”

As anyone who hears “Budlight” can tell you, Smyly is entirely aware of what qualities he has infused his musical style with. The beauty of this mode is that it is absolutely unfeigned, a frank and unadorned recording of a man opening his soul with the mere help of a guitar. He politely invites his neighbors of the world to listen with the following lines:

“I’d like for all persons who love true country music to be able to hear and enjoy mine. The message in my music is true and real. Hope you’ll enjoy it.”

“Budlight” by Lamar Smyly is available online worldwide, and country music is that much better for it. Get in early.
