The alt- rock band known as
Rhondavision and the 11th Hour Orchestra have released
their anxiously awaited, definitive full-length record, “Rhondavision
and the 11th Hour Orchestra.” The LP comprises 11
original tracks for an approximate total listening time of just over
half an hour. It has been produced and published on the Cabinwood
Studios independent record label. Eclectic, shadowy, and full of dark
ambiance, “Rhondavision and the 11th Hour Orchestra”
is a multifaceted dreamscape of sound to entertain fans of virtually
any genre.
The Rhondavision and the 11th
Hour Orchestra experience is a highly theatrical one. Colorful,
imaginative and devilishly fun, it draws upon narrative and a broad
spread of musical styles to intrigue and mystify the listener. Much
of this dramatic overtone comes from their cited artistic influences,
which include such composers of film scores as Paul Williams
(“Phantom of the Paradise”), Peter Thomas (“Raumpatrouille”),
and John Barry (James Bond). They also cite as inspirations the
theatrical approach of David Bowie, the commanding power of Shirley
Bassey, and the quasi-electronic instrumentation of Devo. Imagining a
blend of these approximates the general panache and mode of
Rhondavision fairly well.
Expanding on their founding ideas and
their new record, Rhondavision and the 11th Hour Orchestra
write, “Our musical objective is to create a feeling of mystery and
intrigue while enforcing an up-tempo rhythm with visually rich
lyrics. With this collection, we set out to produce a series of
independently epic theme songs, reminiscent of rock-opera adventures
from the past. Reoccurring themes include alien abduction, time
travel and the afterlife.”
Rhondavision and the 11th
Hour Orchestra are a duo with an unusual history. The following is an
excerpt from their official bio:
“While on location to direct a TV
pilot in Hollywood at the famous Radio Records studio, TH3 (Thomas
Hurley III) and Rhondavision (Rhonda Selesnow) met on the new set of
the 'Count Smokula Show.' Here, the two produced a satirical music
sketch with LA's favorite cable-access vampire clown, Count Smokula.
The TV pilot fizzled, but the shoot did not fail, as it launched a
six-year artistic collaboration between TH3 and his new magical muse,
Rhondavision. The duo would continue to develop numerous future
endeavors including music videos, new cable access shows, theatrical
plays and now, their full-length rock album.”
Rhondavision's official music video for
“Hex,” Track Two on their self-titled LP, has also been released.
