Blues crew Wisemans Circus releases new LP 'Lonely Traveller'

The purveyors of blues rock known as Wisemans Circus have released their latest full-length record, “Lonely Traveller.” The LP album is composed of 11 blues tracks for an approximate total listening time of nearly one hour. It has been proudly published as an independent release without the influence or support of the corporate music industry. Mixing elements of blues and rock with traits unique to themselves alone, Wisemans Circus is sure to appeal to fans of classic rock, southern rock, traditional blues and then some.

The wide variety of tones with which Wisemans Circus have decorated their “Lonely Traveller” LP comes from the equally various backgrounds of the band's members. They cite as main artistic influences the Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, the Grateful Dead, and Stevie Ray Vaughan, and audiophiles will also hear similarities between their material and that of John Lee Hooker, BB King, Son House, Blind Lemon Jefferson, and other mainstays of the blues lineage.

Asked to describe their goals with “Lonely Traveller,” Wisemans Circus write, “We'd like to share some good ol' rocking blues. We love the old school delta and swamp blues but we also love the contemporary rock blues. We tend to mash it up to offer some typical 'Woe is me' type blues and also some rockin', get off your butt and hit the dance floor type rock blues.”

This description couldn't be more apt where “Lonely Traveller” is concerned. Listeners will find themselves coaxed and transported by some tracks, then revved up and leaping from their seats by others. What is more, Wisemans Circus blend these facets in such a way as to keep their sound seamlessly consistent. At no point does the album put the music fan to sleep nor jar him with sudden blasts from the amplifiers. The overall blues-rock effect is extremely well balanced, making for a highly textured, reliably enjoyable and exciting album from beginning to end, one that doesn't even wear out after the third spin on 'repeat.'

“I guess if we are trying to send a message,” writes the band, “it is that blues can be fun. It can get the heart racing and emotions churning in different ways, and we are trying to explore those ways.”

The following is taken from the band's current official bio:

“The Wisemans Circus do not just play music. They tell a story, a story of life, be it good times or bad. They know that audiences don't just come to a gig with their ears, they come with their eyes and their hearts. Wisemans Circus put on a show for all senses. Make sure there is a piece of dance floor nearby because if Wisemans Circus are in town, you are going to need it.”

“Lonely Traveller” by Wisemans Circus is available online worldwide. Get in early, fans of blues and rock.
