DopeThought releases frontline album “We Our Environment”

Salt Lake City rap artist DopeThought has released his flagship LP record, “We Our Environment”

Salt Lake City rap artist DopeThought has released his flagship LP record, “We Our Environment.” The rapper from Utah has released the album paired with his equally talented and creative producer, Jackson “Worth” Savage. Their music is often billed under the umbrella name of DopeThought and Worth. “We Our Environment” is a Heaven Noise Recordings release including 17 tracks for about an hour's worth of listening. Each track is original with its own character and style, making for a widely varied and often beautifully surprising record. A fine representation of the LP may be found in their official music video, “Have You Figured It Out Yet,” presently available for viewing at the Heaven Noise website, linked below.

DopeThought (whose moniker may seem most evocative of the term 'deep thought,' but more directly references the ability of thought to release dopamine to the human brain, producing natural, healthy euphoria) is a master poet of rhythm and rhyme who does not mince words or speak without purpose. Each of his lines is a carefully crafted, meticulously balanced attempt at communicating something worthwhile, something socially conscious or, at the very least, witty. The intellectual weight and value of “We Our Environment” cannot be overstated. The background orchestrations are clean, spacious, and interesting without being gaudy or ostentatious. The general mood is one of a Socratic dialogue to beats – and the beats are heavy.

When asked directly about the themes of “We Our Environment,” DopeThought offers a few concise lines. “It's pretty plain, yet beautiful,” he says. “We our environment from the air to the trees, five senses, atoms, pain, learning, earning, growth, destruction, karma, dharma. Bad and good is what makes it work.” Clearly, he is not making music for money, fame, or self-aggrandizement. “It's bigger than just pride, myself, or my city,” he says.

DopeThought's music is not intended for the passive, either. He speaks with his audience, not at his audience, nor even to his audience. “Are you seeing everything I see?” he asks in one of the album's most heavy-hitting tracks. “If so, we should make it right, please.”

“We” is one of his favorite words with which to address the listener – and “we” are likely, most of us, to agree with him. We should make it right.

The public can see everything DopeThought sees beginning 12 January 2013.
