The alternative music artist known as
Vaughty has released his newest single track, “Warm Inside.” The
song features an electrifying synth pop beat and tone that is
reminiscent of the early nineties alternative music sound. This
original, experimental music movement from the British underground
once returned dancing to nightclubs and paved the road for digital
music artists for decades to come, and Vaughty's “Warm Inside”
has every excellent quality of those legendary tunes without any of
their unfortunate side attributes. The song is passionate without
being melodramatic, heavy hitting without being harsh, and sexy
without being boringly obvious about it.
Vaughty lists as main artistic
influences the likes of Depeche Mode, Vangelis, Vince Clarke, and
Gary Numan, all of whom are apparent in “Warm Inside” in one form
or another. This is especially true in the case of Depeche Mode,
whose dark overtones contrasted so obliquely with the Jon Bon Jovis
and Metallicas of 1991. This shadowy, romantic mood is very present
in Vaughty's track, and he plays upon it with just the right balance
of verve and groove in his keyboard playing, back beats, and aloof,
masculine vocals. Also tempering the edginess of the song is the
sweet, unpretentious singing voice of Jenny Palmer, whose natural
timbre is nothing like the annoying divas who ruled the house music
genre of the day, but rather is soft and elegant, making for a
perfect dance hall number that is just as suited for night drives
through the city as it is for flashing, thumping discotheques.
In fact, driving and the city are both
large inspirations for the track. Vaughty writes of this, “The
sound of the song, as well as the up-and-coming Vaughty EP, was
inspired by the 2011 movie called “Drive” (starring Ryan
Gosling). The music is all about city life, the neon views and the
atmosphere of metropolitan night life. It's about the contrast
between the cold, hard city and vulnerable human emotions.”
Vaughty's single isn't necessarily a celebration of urban living,
however, nor is it an homage. “'Warm Inside,'” he explains, “is
a song about trying to keep the person you love safe in a dangerous
world.”
That
living in the city remains insanely dangerous cannot be helped. We
don't have to suffer it without good music, though.
Vaughty's
single “Warm Inside” is available worldwide beginning February
28, 2013.
