Johnoscar releases new LP 'Christmas'

The arranger and performer of music mononymously known as Johnoscar has released his new LP record, “Christmas,” to worldwide fan and critical acclaim. It has been celebrated with live performances by the artist and touted as an early success by all who have had the good fortune and pleasure to have been in attendance. The release of the LP has been concurrently released with an official video preview of the record (link below) complete with a short interview of Johnoscar, himself, in which he describes his artistic aims for, and the inherent themes of, his new “Christmas” LP.

Johnoscar writes candidly of these aims and themes, “Christmas is about triumph over tragedy. This album is a lyrical cousin to conceptual works like a Pink Floyd album or a Philip Glass opera. My performance on the piano was the only voice used to tell the story. It is a biographical album that weaves together traditional and non-traditional music to propel this listener on a journey that they can relate to as if the story were their own.”

Johnoscar's new record draws from wildly disparate songwriters throughout history, and has been touted as one of the most inclusively arranged Christmas records to date. Classical composers such as Richard Wagner and Sergei Rachmaninoff have been tastefully knotted to works by John Lennon and Stevie Nicks, with Irving Berlin acting as a kind of go-between.

Upon being asked to cite some artists influences, Johnoscar does not need time to think.

“Martha Argerich and my dear friend Yuja Wang have both inspired me as a musician,” he writes. “But I once had a master’s class with pianist John Bayless. He had me focus on achieving the right tone for a composition. I have been told that the tones on this album distinguish it.”

Johnoscar's “Christmas” is a deeply personal and autobiographical record that holds complex and important meaning for every member of humanity, as well as a work of the utmost and greatest artistic integrity. It is not to be missed. Get in early.

“Christmas” by Johnoscar is available online worldwide beginning December 2013.
