Super Super release debut EP 'Live in the City'

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –

The power pop crew from Rockford, IL known as Super Super have released their debut EP album, titled, “Live in the City.” The record is comprised of four original rock tracks for an approximate total listening time of 12 minutes. It has been released on the Respectable Records music label.

Super Super cite as main artistic influences such popular bands as Cheap Trick, Big Star, Jimmy Eat World, Weezer, Foo Fighters, Arctic Monkeys, and Superdrag, all of whom build their walls of sound with a catchy combination of vocal harmonies and melodic guitars. Like these bands, Super Super have a stalwart faith in great guitar tones and solid, natural songwriting, and it's a faith that steadily pays off.

The Super-Super style is upbeat, friendly, and unstoppably groovy, built on seemingly simple rhythms that build to bursting in every track. A kind of patient aggression flows in strong undercurrents through their music, full of verve and vivacity that envelops the listener with the ambiance of a relentlessly good time. This undeniably fun sonic experience is at least partially due to the palpable chemistry of the band members.

Vocalist, guitarist and keyboardist Mark Gustafson, drummer David Doyle, Jr., and bassist Ian Zander (son of Cheap Trick vocalist Robin) have been playing together for more than ten years. They spent much of this time playing in the popular Midwest band, the Avatars.

Regarding the Avatars, Jim DeRogatis writes for the Chicago Sun-Times in 2008, “It seems as if the power-pop torch will never be extinguished in these parts, and that's a good thing, at least when bands like the Avatars can make that familiar Big Star/Cheap Trick/Material Issue/Matthew Sweet formula of huge guitars, massive choruses and thundering drums sound [this] fresh and vital...”

“Live in the City” represents a particularly satisfying triumph for Super Super, too, as it features the lighting guitar work of Cheap Trick's own Rick Neilsen, thundering out one of his titanic signature solos for their record's title track. Additionally, the EP was mastered by Steve Rooke at London's legendary Abbey Road Studios. A special version mastered especially for iTunes was also produced (link provided below).
