Cleveland P. Jones releases new LP 'Ace of Hearts'

South Carolina soul singer-songwriter Cleveland P. Jones has released his newest LP record, titled, “Ace of Hearts.” The album is comprised of 12 original tracks for a total of approximately 45 minutes' worth of truly remarkable soul music. It is published on the Prodigy 3 music label. Little more can be written about this shockingly excellent LP that does it justice, however. The reader is emphatically urged to find the album's free single, “Free Yard Sale” online and press 'play.' Almost immediately, the eyes go wide. The mouth goes dry. “Where could an artist of this caliber have been hiding?” one thinks.

This is the proper introduction to Cleveland P. Jones.

Jones' record, “Ace of Hearts,” is written in the traditional soul style of the 60s and 70s, when brass instruments and a female trio for backing vocals were standard. This alone makes for excellent listening, but the performance of Cleveland P. Jones is absolutely, positively, zero-arguments and no-doubt-about-it, drop-what-you-are-doing-and-listen-to-this astounding.

His is a new and unique voice, one that transcends age, gender, and other such descriptive cages. Were one to imagine the clarity and range of Michael Jackson, combined with the jazzy blue tones of Anita Baker, crossed again with the sentimental groove of Al Green, and sharpened with the rough rawness of Janis Joplin, one would perhaps be in the neighborhood, but still Cleveland must be heard to be appreciated.

He names as main musical influences the likes of Anita Baker, Bobby McFerrin, and Rachelle Ferrell, as well as Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Donny Hathaway, Oleta Adams and more. This investment in his creative future has bloomed into a sparkling good taste that guides his creative process with the unerring tact of a connoisseur.

Regarding the record's largely romantic themes (and hence its title) Cleveland writes, “My album shares a message of healing through heartbreaks and disappointment. Men have heartbreaks, too. I just decided to write about it unapologetically.”
