The pair of musicians from Bologna,
Italy known as Vampire Pop Strategy have released their long-awaited
long playing record, titled, “Windows Of Suburbia,” to broad fan
and critical acclaim. The album has been released on the record
label, The Office Records. It contains ten original tracks for a
total playing time of 33 minutes. It is an electropop, shoegaze,
indie retro rock album with a wide range of possibilities, being
danceable, fun, unobtrusive, and extremely colorful and creative.
“Windows of Suburbia” is a
post-modern record with traditional pop ties in the nineteen
eighties, when synth bass “key”-tars were all the rage and new
wave hairdos ruled the shopping malls. At the same time, it strains
out much of the sugary sweetness and insipid themes that made 80s pop
take a dive after more serious electropop bands appeared in the
1990s, such as Depeche Mode. The Vampire Pop Strategy's first LP is
like a cross between Simple Minds and The Damned, without the punk
rock one-two tempo. The overall tone of the album is youthful,
powerful, and very nocturnal sounding (much like the name of the band
who recorded it). It makes for fine listening in the car on weekend
drives, but seems much more at home in a dance club at midnight.
Citing such influences as David Bowie,
Giorgio Moroder, Suicide, Brian Eno, Jacno, and The Stranglers,
Vampire Pop Strategy are actually brothers Francesco and Marco Leoci.
This first full length LP release comes after their debut EP, “New
Boys in Utah Beach” and a second EP, “Mid Dim.” These records
have each come from different record labels, the first appearing in
2007 on The Family Records, and the second being published by Skpmz
as recently as 2011. “Windows of Suburbia,” although sharing many
characteristics of these albums, reassures their listeners that this
is the Vampire Pop Strategy that has come to fruition, and the one
music fans can expect to produce many more such excellent records.
All
songs are written by Vampire Pop Strategy (Francesco Leoci and Marco
Leoci)
