The reggae singer and songwriter known
as Judah Eskender Tafari has released his most recent collection of
original songs in an extended play record, titled, “Judah’s Gift:
Upliftment.” The record is comprised of five new tracks for a
combined total of approximately 21 minutes' worth of excellent and
inspirational reggae music.
The record is a fine work of Jamaican
tradition in the modern reggae style. Much like Tafari's earlier
work, it is also a musical “gift” from the artist to his audience
in the sense that it is written as a letter of encouragement and
inner wisdom intended to bring light, warmth, strength, and simple
happiness to anyone who hears its lyrics.
Of the themes in his new record, Tafari
himself writes, “The message of my music is that it transmits the
awareness that love is the light of the world.”
This is meant not only in the sense of
Jah's love, but also the love of one another, as described in his
song, “Personal Experience,” in which he sings, “Every woman
needs a man, every man needs a woman.”
The love of Jah is expounded in the
song of praise, “The Builder.”
Judah Eskender Tafari writes of his
spiritual perspective, “The sense of God consciousness within
creation is not to be taken for granted. Let us keep in mind that
there is a Creator, and not just ourselves in this universe.”
Additionally, Tafari wishes that these
ideas not be tinged one way or another by a listener's opinion of
him, himself. “Don’t judge the messenger of the words,” he
says, “but try to understand, and to live your life in complete
fullness.”
Tafari names his musical inspirations
quickly and easily: “The creative works of Delroy Wilson, Ken
Booth, Bob Marley, John Holt, Burning Spear, Dennis Brown, Smokey
Robinson, Luther Vandross and Stevie Wonder. All these have
influenced my musical creative style.”
Indeed, qualities of each of these
artists can clearly be heard in “Judah's Gift: Upliftment.” There
is Stevie Wonder in the keyboards, Luther Vandross in Tafari's
vocals, Marley, the Spear... But most of all there is Judah Eskender
Tafari, himself, and his EP is a work that deserves great attention
from the reggae and Rasta commmunities.
“Judah's Gift: Upliftment” by Judah
Eskender Tafari is available online worldwide beginning spring of
2013.
