Bugs Skully releases flagship single 'Cheap Regret'

The musical talents of Bugs Skully have released a new single, titled, “Cheap Regret.” The single is the most significant and capital release from Bugs Skully to date, and stands to solidify their place in the international rock 'n' roll scene once and for all. A colorful, imaginative work of heavy-hitting music and storytelling, “Cheap Regret” by Bugs Skully is a crossroads of Prohibition-era gangster drama, comic-book action, and driving, adrenaline-charged rock music. Its sound lies somewhere between Guns 'n' Roses, Aerosmith, and late Ozzy Osbourne, though the general timbre of Bugs Skully is likely to shift somewhat from release to release.

This versatility in tone is due to the surprising and exciting nature of Bugs Skully as a project. The group is centered around the creative genius of writer David Polites, who writes of this single, “'Cheap Regret' is the first in a series of tracks set in the fictional world of Bugs Skully, a female gangster from the 1920s. Each track will feature guest musicians and a different aspect to the story. The music is classic rock with a splash of the modern while keeping the vintage charm of the era.”

In addition to excellent songwriting, “Cheap Regret” features the rock-solid talents and performances of Emmy-Award winner Philip Bynoe (Warlord, Vai), Mark Zonder (Warlord, Fates Warning) and viral Internet hero Juan “The Beast” Rodriguez.

Though the heart and soul of Bugs Skully is one of action and fun, the themes of “Cheap Regret” are more profound and personal than one may at first perceive.

Writer Polites says of this that the song “explores the concept of regret and wanting things to turn out differently whilst knowing it was impossible for them to do so.”

This emotional complexity is possible through a narrative that paints Bugs Skully's characters in vivid splashes of imagery. “The song’s protagonist is hurt by a sudden, unexpected end to a romantic relationship,” Polites explains, “only to discover that his former partner has a potentially terminal illness. Thus, the song expresses the emotions of unrequited love, rejection, anger, compassion, forgiveness, regret and hope.”

“Cheap Regret” is available online worldwide beginning early July, 2013.
