The songwriter
known as Christopher David Santangelo has collaborated with with
Grammy-Award-winning producer Ted Perlman for a new single, 'Hero.'
It is performed flawlessly by singers Ken Stacey and Peggi Blu. The
track is categorized as pop music, but boasts attributes of soft rock
and mainstream country music also. Originally written as an homage to
Christopher Reeve's immortal portrayal of the greatest American
superhero of all time, Superman, “Hero” is a pop epic that stands
equally tall in terms of both epic tonalities and endless inner
strength.
“Hero,”
though only just released, has been lauded by professional music
critics and music fans alike. Five-time Grammy Award winner Clive
Davis went so far in acting on his estimation of the song to
personally endorse it to his associates. These accolades are no
fluke, however. Likewise Grammy winner Ted Perlman, who is credited
as producer and co-writer on “Hero,” has myriad successes in the
music industry. Providing lead vocals for “Hero” is Ken Stacey,
backup singer for Elton John and the lead singer for Ambrosia. Stacey
was a backup singer for Michael Jackson on Jackson's final tour.
Performing backing vocals for “Hero” is Peggi Blu (wife of
producer Perlman). Blu is a voice coach for the popular reality show
“American Idol,” and performed with Luther Vandross on the hit
single, “Fame.”
Speaking
of the themes of “Hero,” Santangelo writes, “It was
originally written as a tribute to Christopher Reeve but is targeted
at the hero in all of us. It questions our need to change who we are,
whether we always should in order to please others, and if that
change is always the right choice.” These queries go far deeper
than the usual heroic story tells. “How far would you go to be
someones hero?” asks Santangelo.
Santangelo is also widely respected for
his tribute to the victims of the 9/11/01 tragedy, titled, “Remember
September.” The official video for the tribute, made by his son, is
available for viewing at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwlZ6M9LCvM.
“This song dedicated to all the
people affected by the tragic events that happened on September 11,
2001,” Santangelo writes. “The words came to me easily, like the
images that still haunt me to this day. I will always remember
September, and I hope this song helps you to remember, too.”
“Hero” by Ken Stacey, Peggi Blu,
Ted Perlman, and Christopher David Santangelo is available online
