Young composer and pianist Aria Chablis
King has released her debut full-length record album, “Fueled
by Purple – Ch. I – Not Too Young to Find Myself.” The album is comprised of nine original pieces from King, who was born
in 1999 and has been playing for approximately seven years. Her record also includes one re-imagined cover track, "My Immortal" by Evanescence. These compositions
vary in style, tone and texture, but are uniformly remarkable in
character and originality. “Fueled by Purple – Ch. I” is an
artistic work of great artistic integrity, and of titanic personality
untrammeled by pretentiousness or trepidation.
It
is also an enigmatic work of shadows, its creator being a sculptor of
suspense.
“Love
mystery,” writes King; “create mystery.”
King's
first published collection of music is one of delicate beauty, a
prettiness colored with Gothic antiquity and mild lugubriousness.
Like the color purple, its mood is not exactly blue, but rather
blue-tinted, with an emphasis on evoking atmosphere and emotion
without ever sounding melodramatic. There are frequent moments of
carefree joy in “Not Too Young...” also, which King uses to
counterbalance tension with marvelous effect. This skill is perhaps
best exemplified by her manipulation of minors and majors in “Dance
of the Crooked Fairy,” which is not only a piece of marvelous
contrast, but also a fine display of fearless creativity.
Interestingly
enough, King is not the most rabid fan of classical music, herself.
“When
I wrote this first album,” she says, “I had no specific classical
influence. I simply listened to the same popular artists that young
people my age listened to. It might surprise people that some of my
favorite bands at the time were artists like Miley Cyrus, Paramore,
Motley Crue and others. I didn’t listen to classical music.” The
result of this is an entirely non-derivative debut classical record.
Every phrase is her own. Nothing has been subconsciously borrowed.
Her
artistic philosophy, like her music, is bold, simple, and proudly
stated.
“Even
if you are young,” writes King, “you are still able to find your
talents, develop them, and share them with others. Kids are often
underrated. Don’t let anyone tell you that age is a barrier, and
don’t let anyone hold you back.”
“Fueled by Purple – Ch. I – Not Too Young to Find Myself,” by Aria Chablis King is available online worldwide beginning 7 April 2013.
