Jack
Mack and the Heart Attack Horns have released their new EP, titled,
“Lookin' Up,” to broad critical and fan acclaim. The band, who
not long ago celebrated their 30th
anniversary as the “Hardest Working Band in Soul Business,” are
famous for having kept a tireless musical inertia since the release
of their hit record in 1980, “Cardiac Party,” and before. Their
deep-groove blend of rock 'n' soul music has provided the upbeat
backdrops for movies such as “Police Academy,” “Jersey Girl,”
and “Short Circuit,” as well as enough material for several LP
albums, both live and studio-recorded. Based in Los Angeles, their
talents have been widely sought after for decades of A-list parties
hosted by celebrities such as Whoopi Goldberg, Tom Arnold, Steve
Jobs, and George Lucas.
The
sound of “Lookin' Up” proves that Jack Mack and the Heart Attack
Horns haven't aged like fine wine, as the cliché goes, because The
Heart Attack simply hasn't aged at all. The new EP record is like an
elevated Chicago train that doubles as a time machine, whisking the
listener away to the days of Motown, when real funk used blasts from
a hot brass section to emphasize walking bass lines and punctuate the
bright flickety-flick of a disco-style rhythm guitar. Fans of James
Brown, Tower of Power and Otis Redding will be enthusiastically
impressed and gladdened by this thundering record.
Jack Mack and the Heart Attack Horns is fronted by Oak-Ridge born, New-Orleans raised Mark Campbell, who was singing gospel, soul, R&B, and southern rock in the French Quarter by the age of 16, four and five nights weekly. His vocals are impossibly precise, yet raw and rich, studio-perfect, yet entirely live and natural, proving him capable of improvising new turns of phrase in every iteration.
Every instrumentalist on the record is
a giant in the industry, and the female backing vocals are fantastic,
as well. Featured players include, but in no way are limited to: Les
Lovitt (Eagles), Terry Landry (Luis Miguel), Roy Weigand (The Who),
Davey Faragher (Elvis Costello), Carlos Murguia (Rikki Lee Jones),
and Les Falconer (Keb Mo); Emmy and BMI Award winner E.G. "Snuffy"
Walden; pianist Reese Wynans (Allman Brothers, Stevie Ray Vaughn,
Buddy Guy); and Rock-and-Roll Hall of Fame honoree Julie Delgado
(John Mayer, Stevie Wonder, Janet Jackson);
Music fans who have not yet been
introduced to the Jack Mack and the Heart Attack Horns experience can
do so online worldwide beginning spring, 2013, when their five-song
EP “Lookin' Up” goes on sale for the mellow price of $4.99.
