The rock 'n' roll blues project known
as BluesRock & Country Inc. has released a new LP, titled,
“Rocking the Blues.” The record is comprised of eight original
tracks for an approximate total of 20 minutes worth of listening
time. The album is the first full-length record album from BluesRock
since the release of the debut LP, “Old-Fashioned Love” in late
September of 2012, making for a very busy few months in the BluesRock
& Country Inc. studio. The record is a somewhat more aggressive
offering from BluesRock than their former album, with the same
dominant rock groove that runs through all the BR & C material,
but with an emphasized verve and swagger that demonstrates much
passion and power.
“Rocking the Blues” features the
music of BR & C Inc.'s heart and soul, singer-songwriter and
guitarist Jos Slabbert, currently the band's sole member. He is more
than enough. Slabbert's vocals alone are worth the price of
admission, his crooning, subtle style being part Elvis Presley and
part Roy Orbison, with a dash of Waylon Jennings. His guitar work is
in the style of fifties and sixties classic rock and country, and all
of his instrumentation, whether lead, rhythm, bass, or slide guitar,
is characterized by warm, natural overtones and expert precision.
“Rocking the Blues” is lively, foot-stomping, hip-swinging rock
and roll music with a heavy blues and country influence, perfect for
anyone with a penchant for real, American rock 'n' roll music.
Slabbert's themes vary widely. He sings
about love lost, love gained, the tribulations of people in a variety
of social complications, and more. He is an artist of great artistic
and personal integrity, and his music is more than mere
entertainment. It is the gorgeously sung communication of a decent
human being to the world by means of a guitar played very, very well.
Slabbert is a self-described "African
Cajun" whose French Huguenot family line stretches back to their
original settling of Africa in 1688. He lives there today in the
world's oldest desert on the untamed and almost entirely unpopulated
Atlantic coast of the Namib. Here he writes, performs, records,
engineers and produces his own unique blend of American blues, rock,
and country music to the delight of listeners worldwide. He names as
major influences on him the great Joe Bonamassa as a guitarist, as
well as George Jones for his mastery at storytelling through music.
“Rocking the Blues” by BluesRock &
Country Inc. is available online worldwide beginning 7 April 2013.
