FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –
The country-pop singer and songwriter
known as Tim Ash has released his latest LP record album, titled, “Up
on Blocks.” The album is comprised of 12 original tracks for an
approximate total listening time of 40 minutes. It has been released
on the A&M / SMG Nashville music record label. A rocking,
swinging cross between contemporary country-pop sensibilities and
traditional country-western music, “Up on Blocks” is a
straightforward introduction to this captivating and earnest country
artist from the United States of America.
Ash represents his American culture in
a blue-collar, grass-roots way that is unusual to find in such a
remarkably talented performer. He stands as the fourth-generation of
musicians in his family line, amply able with guitar, bass, drums and
piano in addition to his copious singing abilities. He has also
carried on the family tradition of working with his hands, which
informs his songwriting as a man of the people.
“I grew up among a family of pipe
fitters, construction workers and musicians,” he writes. “The Ash
family name is synonymous with hard work and music. We work as hard
as we play; we work and play with heart.”
He cites as main artistic influences an
upbeat mix of classic rock and country legends, such as Garth Brooks,
David Lee Roth, Jon Bon Jovi, New Grass Revival, The Eagles, and the
Little River Band. Elements of each are easily pointed out in his
songwriting, his tone and his timbre on “Up on Blocks,” yet the
album clearly belongs in the country music category rather than to
the rock genre. Lyrically, his themes tend toward the American-folk
style of storytelling and occasionally to the spiritual.
This spiritual bent comes from the same
place as does the album's title. Following a horrific accident at a
work site, Ash's body was lain up for a 30-month recovery time,
fraught with painful rehabilitation.
“We were working in an open hole at a
refinery,” he relates, “wrapping up our day with just few more
welds to fire, and then – black! When I became conscious, I saw my
boot up near my ear. (I didn’t realize my foot was still in it.) I
had a busted kneecap and ball joint; my right arm was hanging limp –
ligaments completely torn; doctors had to drill a hole in my skull to
relieve the pressure. I truly was a ‘dead man walking.'”
Having since healed from this
near-death experience, Ash has recorded three independent projects,
been courted by two major labels, and shared stages with artists like
Keith Urban,Tim McGraw and Rascal Flatts, as well as having toured
with Travis Tritt on Tritt's “Grill For The Thrill Tour.”
Ash has stated that “faith and
family” are his strength, and that music is his medicine.
