The singer-songwriter known as Lanre
has released his latest and greatest single, titled, “Sweet Brown
Eyes,” to uniformly enthusiastic response. The song is a groovy
blend of soul, jazz, and rhythm 'n' blues, and showcases the
remarkable singing talents of this fantastic up-and-coming musician.
A track with as much heart as it has romance, “Sweet Brown Eyes”
is certain to put Lanre on the entertainment map as an icon of modern
soul music once and for all.
Lanre cites as main artistic influences
the likes of such legends as R. Kelly, Michael Jackson, Nina Simone,
Andrea Boccelli, Bill Withers, Louis Armstrong and (more recently, he
notes) Asa. In addition to these, the artist was raised by
music-loving parents who exposed him to still other greats. As a
result, Lanre grew up in a warm, rhythmic environment full of Bob
Marley, Fela, Sade, Ebenezer Obey and King Sunny Ade albums.
Intuitively, Lanre's sound is populated with elements of each of
these, perhaps most notably the work of Bill Withers and King Sunny
Ade.
“These were my earliest influences in
music,” writes the singer. “Since when I was around 8 years old,
I would spend considerable amounts of time (and water) in the
bathroom singing these songs 'til I got them right. I still sing in
the bathroom today.”
Lanre was born in Festac Town of Lagos,
Nigeria, and his music has all the gorgeous undertones of the rich
culture and popular music of that locale.
“My style of music has a solid
foundation in Soul music with fusions of Jazz, R&B and Pop,”
Lanre writes. “My first single, 'Sweet Brown Eyes,' is a
surreptitiously playful expression of the notion that a woman's
feelings and emotions can be read from the look in her eyes.”
