The eclectic singer-songwriter of
alternative rock music known as Venn has released her debut EP
record, “Versus.” The EP is comprised of four of her newest
original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 11
minutes. A short, sweet collection of Venn music, “Versus” is a
remarkable, entirely unique blend of several musical styles,
stunningly powerful, arresting, inspirational, evocative, and one of
the most important alt rock albums to be released in the last decade.
Venn (often stylized VENN) composes
rock music that takes elements of alternative rock, experimental
rock, electronica, pop music and more to mold a style all her own.
She cites as main artistic influences a broad and disparate list of
musicians, including among others Linkin Park, Fall Out Boy, Gackt,
Michelle Branch, Katy Perry, Fefe Dobson, and Green Day. Her music
has much in common with some other unlikely pairings, as well, such
as Pop Will Eat Itself, Sneaker Pimps, U2, and Trent Reznor.
Her voice is beautiful and strong,
falling somewhere between Tracy Chapman and Alanis Morissette. One
gets the distinct impression that Venn can sing anything in the world
so long as she believes it should be sung. Her contralto voice spans
three octaves with ease.
Intuitively, the overarching themes of
her EP deal with character and individuality, entirely appropriate
topics for an album so distinctly original.
“It’s about having the courage to
be who you are in the face of what everyone else wants you to be,”
writes the singer. “I want others to challenge the world around
them – ask questions, be curious. But most importantly, I want them
to challenge themselves. That’s where 'versus' comes into play.”
Venn's debut EP is not an
accomplishment that should be taken lightly by audiophiles and casual
listeners around the globe. Hers is a perfect record, one created out
of the utmost artistic integrity and sculpted into a masterpiece that
positively must lead to a full-length album if there is any justice
in the world at all. As it stands, music fans of all ages and creeds
owe it to themselves to hear “Versus” at their earliest possible
convenience. She certainly won't be unknown for long. Get in early.
“Versus” by VENN is available
