Papa's Train releases new LP 'Volume One'

The unstoppable funk crew known as Papa's Train have released their long-awaited new LP record album, “Volume One.” The record is comprised of 10 original tracks for a total playing time of approximately 45 minutes. This makes for a fine representation of Papa's Train for listeners whom have yet to experience this powerhouse of performance perfection, and should be missed by no one with a taste for excellent funk and groove, as this shockingly excellent LP is almost certainly the best record in the genre of the year, and perhaps one of the best of the decade so far.

Papa's Train has a sound all their own, utilizing many elements not commonly found in the funk and soul genres, such as a broad, endlessly fun use of “gang” vocals in which most of the band sings and shouts along with their lead vocalist. Also indigenous to their sound is a creative elasticity that allows them to soar in one stylistic vein, then switch to something far from it and fly high there, too. These actual styles recall some of the very best soul, R 'n' B, and Motown artists of the '60s and '70s, and the exceptionally high quality of “Volume One” does not just keep their spirits alive, but rather sets Papa's Train right on the top shelf beside the greatest of them.

Their track, “Shakin' in the Boon,” has all the sonorous timbre and soul of Bill Withers' seminal classic, “Use Me.” Track 7 on the album, “Unholy Moans,” recalls the irrepressible rhythm and feel of James Brown. On an entirely different tack, “The River Robin” sounds somewhere between Al Green and Ben E. King, by far one of the most surprising and well-written numbers on the record.

All in all, listeners around the world have everything to gain from giving “Volume One” by Papa's Train a very thorough and enjoyable listen – and probably two or three, back to back. Fans of funk and soul should get in early on this one.
