The music artist from the United
Kingdom known as Kenny Hectyc has released his long-awaited debut
record, the “Inside Outer Space”
EP. The EP includes six original tracks for an approximate
total listening time of 26 minutes. These tracks include Kenny Hectyc
mainstays “Let Loose,” featuring the talents of Liquid Architek,
“Fly Tonight,” featuring the combined force of the Scribes, and
Hectyc's slam-dunk closing track, “Back 2 Bassics.” The EP also
includes three “Let Loose” remixes, the “Mainline Mussy Remix,”
the “Embassy Remix,” and an instrumental remix, all of which also
feature the inimitable Liquid Architek.
Hectyc cites as main artistic
influences the music of old-school legends such as Donae’O, Mobb
Deep, (the original) Artful Dodger, and DJ Shadow. His music is
indicative of his fine taste in house music and British hip-hop, but
also blends other flavors that are less typically found in the
subgenre.
Speaking candidly about the style of
his debut record, Hectyc writes, “My EP is rooted in house, which
also reflects a combination of my musical influences from UK funky
and deep house to hip hop. The tracks range from instrumental, deep,
moody, heavy bass lines to summery, uplifting, UK funky house, and
round off with a track featuring a rap from The Scribes.”
The themes of the EP's anchor single
are also important to Hectyc's mood and tone.
“The first song and lead single, 'Let
Loose,'” he writes, “features Liquid Architek and is about
realizing that life is not just about work – it's also about having
fun and letting go and being uplifted.”
Kenny Hectyc was originally born in
Nigeria to parents from the UK and Africa. His family introduced him
at an early age to classical, pop and Makossa music. He has been
producing music since the age of 15 and is now a resident at the
award-winning Thirst Club/Bar in Plymouth, UK. When he is not making
music as a solo artist, he performs with the Scribes, an eclectic
hip-hop group who have been signed by Dizzy Dustin’s (Ugly
Duckling) Record Label, Kamikazi Airlines.
